Title: FREAKY Terrain Issue
Post by: PoisonIVy12 on August 16, 2013, 01:25:35 am
So, I've been trying to make maps ever since I got FeralHeart over a year ago. It's never worked and it always comes up with a message that says "Cannot load terrain!" BUT, the heightmap appears in the corner as it should. It found it, it just said it could not LOAD it. I thought my problem was that it wasn't grayscale, but when I made a grayscale test-map it didn't load. One layer. It won't load my terrains or textures or anything. I can place objects, but do nothing with the terrain and textures. (In fact, after I tried to make a map the first time, the Map Maker wouldn't even open up at all until I deleted that map)

I'm thinking it has something to do with the game, because in the game, it only displays the African Grass texture and nothing else. I have no idea what's wrong with it... help?

Hmm...if you think there's something wrong with the game you should probably try un-installing it and then installing it again, see if that helps.

That's what I'm thinking I'll have to do, but I'd have to ask my dad about that before uninstalling the game... *sigh*

Reinstalling repaired the texture issue but did nothing for Map Maker except make the "Cannot Load Terrain!" messages go away. It won't load the terrain, but the messages have stopped. O_o

Then there is a Terrain error, Maybe you didn't put GRAYSCALE ON. Grayscale HAS TO BE ON. Just retrace your steps from a video and try again. REMEMBER, the Image has to be a PNG and has to be the size of 513x 513

But Grayscale IS on, I said that in my previous post. It's PNG and 513x513, I have it in the right folder, and the Map Maker recognizes it's there. It just doesn't load the terrain. I've got one person suggesting it's something with the C++ stuff... *shrugs*

Maybe try flattening the image? If you right click on the layer I think you will see it (with gimp anyway)

I'd suggest making a map from scratch and make sure you make it properly.

That video should help. However since you get the cannot load terrain it might be that you place your heightmap image in the wrong location or something, not sure. But make sure everything is correct from scratch.
