Title: The Meadow.. -Deer rp-

In a large forest in Idaho, deer live with no rules. But, hunters are still out there. The deer have survived them for a bit, then hunting dogs came into the picture. The deer, need to find a way to survive, or die.

Amise

Warm crisps of sunlight fell down on Amise's back as the doe trotted through the short grass. A thin layer of snow nestled in the ground as her hooves crunched in the snow, making crackling noises. Nosing through the snow, she found a short stalk of grass sticking out of the ground. Without hesitating, the doe snatched the food up, slowly consuming it as she glanced around. Blinking, Amise continued to search through the snow and grass, her ears twitching for any sign of danger.

Aspen led his 6 strong herd (including him) through the snow. He found a tree with soft bark. He nodded to the tree and reared up, stripping it of most of it's bark. Aspen placed the bark on the ground, and his herd gathered around and ate the bark. The only other buck, Slash, walked up to a piece next to Aspen and ate it. Slash finished and looked at him, "This winter is easy.. for now." Aspen nodded, "We are lucky to have even found this tree." Aspen looked up, finding more bark at the top and high middle. He looked at his herd. They were finishing eating. He grunted, "Finish up.. we need to keep moving. If we stay here too long, predators will come for sure." The does licked the two fawn's, Delilah and Dakota's, backs, ridding it of snow. Delilah, the youngest fawn, sighed, "How much longer? My hooves hurt!" Dakota, who was growing his antlers slightly whined too, "Yea! I want some plants!" Aspen snorted, "It won't be long. We will find something good soon." Aspen looked in the distance. There were more trees, the majority of them stripped of bark. I hope.

Rizzo was woke as she heard the banging of plates and bowls sighing she lifted to her paws and padded from the living room into the kitchen where her owner was stood. A small bark escaping her maw to let her owner know she was there "Hey Rizzo girl" Henry smiled as he knelt down and began patting the fae on her head, her stumped tail wagging. Standing up he grabbed a silver bowl from the counter top and placed it infront of the canine "Eat up, we've got a busy day.." He smiled as the German shorthair nodded her head slightly 'Everydays a busy day' she shrugged to herself with a slight smile. Craning her neck she began to wolf down her meal. Charlie then bounded in; Henrys other canine a golden retriever. Barking happily as usual he was younger and followed in Rizzos pawsteps soon to become a top hunter. Heny smiled then placed down the pups bowl.


Mollie deep barks from the garden and she let out a sigh lifting to her paws she padded from the porch and leapt through the large doggy door entering the house spotting Buddy bounding around a chuckle escaped her maw. He was 4 years old so not much older than her but she counted him as an older brother. She padded over to the male Brittney and smiled about to pounce on him when Trent shouted. "Buddy, Mollie c'mon in here!" He ordered the two dogs bounding in to already have bowls set on the wooden floor, looking at eachother they shurgged and dipped their heads into the bowl.


((I'll post a small app for Buddy and Charlie when I have a little more time. But they won't be 'main' characters just joining in on hunts, beeing seen around the house etc))

Aspen trotted through the snow, stopping to feed his herd on bark and (rarely) surviving bushes. The fawns were growing tired, and Aspen always made sure they ate first. They had a long winter ahead of them.

Aspen saw a blackberry patch in the distance. He turned to his herd, "Berry patch, up ahead." The herd dashed past him, and munched eagerly on the berries and leaves. Aspen slowly walked out, finding no danger, but was still catious. When he got to the patch, he started slowly to eat some berries and leaves.

"Let's go!" A rough vocie instructed and Rizzo lifted her head to notice Henry grabbing his coat and putting it on, then getting his gun. She looked at the young pup and nudged him causing his head to whip up and look it at fae "What?" He muttered his tail wagging as he looked at Henry and tilted his head "We going already?" He asked "Yep" Rizzo muttered "Come on!" She barked bounding out the door with her human. They were on their way up the field to meet the few other hunters.


Mollie and Buddy wolfed down their food then looked at Trent who still seemed to be barking. The larger brute padded up to the human and began nudging him Mollie then barking and he chuckled and looked down "Ok, ok I'm coming.." He muttered putting down his paper and putting the plate and mug in the dish washer. Stretching the dark haired human grabbed his gun and patted the two canines on the head "Let's go" he smiled leading them out the door and locking it behind them. "So we starting right away?" Mollie asked looking at the male brittany "Well not today, first we're going to meet the hunting team" he smiled gooping his posture smart nodding she tried to copy the older male.

Aspen took a few more bites of the leaves. The leaves were frosty and cold, and a bit hard to chew. This poor patch of bushes probably got the full dose of the cold. There were no trees around to protect them, any that were had no leaves to blot it out. He bit into a berry. A little cold, but still good. He bit into a few more.

When the herd was stuffed from the berries that had surprisingly survived the snow, Aspen led them out again. Careful not to stay in one place longer than 10 minutes. Predators would be hungry. If the carnivores found their position... Aspen shook the thought from his mind. Aspen looked behind them. Nothing but stripped trees and hoof tracks, "Everyone.. speed up to a minor trot." Delilah, the youngest fawn and a female, whined, "Why! My legs are tired.." Aspen looked at her, "Because.. we can't stay in any places for very long. If we stay in one place for too long, we would either freeze to death, or get caught by hunters or hungry predators." Delilah groaned, and trudged on.

The herd had been traveling for another 7 minutes before finding a clearing with a patch of grass. Before the herd charged past him he snorted, "Not yet. A hunter could have easily placed this here and put poison in it." They stopped, and Aspen led the way out. He picked up one blade of grass, swallowing it. After 2 minutes he was still standing. "It's healthy." The herd ran over, munching on the rarely found grass. Aspen smiled. Spring wasn't here yet, but it was letting the forest know Spring is on it's way.

Arriving at the small gathering ground Rizzo and Charlie looked down to see few humans and canines slowly bounding up the ice coated hill, and form a group. The two canines looking around at the others their tails wagging in excitement for the hunt, it had been atleast two days since they had been out on a job and that was because of the weather. The humans stood babbiling on for a few moments and each departed into small groups and seperating into different ways "Rizzo, Charlie!" A rough voice called and the two canines bounded after their group as the hunt began.


Buddy and Mollie clambered up the small icey hill realizing the group were slowly arriving, once everyone was there she peered around looked at each and everyone who was there, then looking at the older canine Buddy, he was kind of her idol and she would follow in his pawsteps. Once the humans finished talking the group departed into atleast four smaller groups that held 3 humans and about 5 dogs.

Both of you accepted ^^ It is currently winter, but spring is coming, and the hunters are going out on a hunt))

Aspen increased the size of the dirt bedding. After warming it a bit and softening it, he let the herd lay on it to rest. He watched the does, fawns, and Slash the other buck lay on it, adjusting so they were comfortable, "I will be right back. I will gather plants to eat. I will be back by sundown. If I do not come back by tomorrow at noon..well Slash is the lead buck then." Slash nodded, his 3x3 antlers dipping with his head.

Aspen slowly walked through the forest, leaving the herd. He had told them he woulf try to gather food, leaving the smaller buck Slash in charge. He came across a weak but living fern. He picked up the large fern, and continued on with it.

The sun was starting to dip towards the horizon. Aspen had only one strip of bark and the fern. Suddenly plant scent wafted into his nose. He charged towards it. There was a flower patch. Aspen knew it was official now. Spring was coming. He stretched his mouth as far as it could go, and grabbed the flowers. He ran towards his herd.

Aspen slowed into the clearing, grunting his arrival. The does, fawns, and Slash's eyes widened and sparkled at the sight of the food. Aspen dropped the bark, fern, and flowers for the herd. The deer gathered around it, eagerly eating.

Amise's ears perked at the sound of something hitting the solid ground. Thinking it was the hunters, she turned and bounded into the trees, not pausing to glance up as she veered her way. When she halted to a stop, she resumed in a slow trot as she swiveled her ears behind her. Silence.

Relived, she decided to keep in the small forest for a while. Blinking, the doe bent down to nudge away some dirt, using her senses to spot for any food. When there was only one stalk of dried up grass, Amise turned away with disappointment. Trotting over to a flower patch, she realized that some creature had ripped off almost the whole bunch for itself. Wow...whoever that creature is certainty is chewing up the whole forest. She muttered to herself. But above all that, she knew that spring was coming - and that was all she mostly cared about. Bending down, she consumed the last bit of flowers, satisfied as she turned and trotted off.

Aspen lifted his head, and looked to the setting sun. He gathered the herd, "Everyone, we will go deeper into the forest now. Finish eating." He walked to the edge of the clearing, and flicked his tail, gathering the herd, "Come, if we want to stay alive in the morning, we need to get moving.. before predators come." He galloped into the darkness, the herd following.

Mollie looked at Buddy and raised a brow as they contunued through the fields, her tail wagging as the group of canines spread out and began to sniff around and search for the different scents. The humans shouted things to eachother as they parted a small distance away. "Think we'll find anything?" She asked the male brittany with a tilt to her head "Well, it depends if the prey have passed through here.." He muttered shrugging. Nodding her head to show she understood the female beagle padded through the fields her snout lowered to the ground.


Rizzo padded through the fields with Charlie by her side, the younf put observing how to hunt and learning quickly. Padding through the fields they lowered their snouts to the ground.

Macaroni followed his owner, who was partnered up with Rizzo and Charlie, and their owner. He fell a bit behind them, taking the time to sniff each prey scent. He continued on until he smelled a buck scent. He lifted his head and barked to Rizzo and Charlie, "I found buck scent! The antlers are about 2x2." He tugged on his master's leash, trying to follow the scent, which lead towards the meadow.

Rizzos head whipped around as Macaroni spoke "Nice job!" She barked and bounded over sniffing the scent "Seems pretty close, let's go!" She barked whipping around and barking at the humans behind them. Catching their attentions they picked up the pace and she turned to see Charlie not to far behind. The young retriever sniffed the ground a few times then noticed it was deer. Excitement filled the pup and his tail wagged, dipping his head like the others he picked up the pace and followed the scent.


Mollie let out a grumble as they hadn't found anything so far, she looked at the other beagle in the distance and he shook his head. Growling she began pacing back and forth trying to find a scent. "Over here!" Buddy barked and let out many barks to alert the humans a herd seemed to have passed. Once the other canines got to the scent "Its a herd, but judging by the scent they're on the move and quite far away!" With that the ground followed the scent. Mollies tail wagged as she kept her nose close to the ground.

Macaroni followed the scent, Rizzo and Charlie following it as well. Macaroni barked happily, "We got 'em now!" He started into a slow gallop, following the scent.
  Soon enough he reached the clearing of the meadow. The buck was there, grazing. He looked at Rizzo and Charlie, "There he is." He whispered. The humans arrived and praised the three dogs, then got ready for the shot.



Cheese was working with Mollie and Buddy. Her brother, Macaroni, was working with Rizzo and Charlie. She snapped to attention as Buddy alerted them he found a herd scent, "Good job!" She barked, sniffing the scent. She put her nose on the ground and followed, the scent. She barked, "There are two bucks in the herd." She halted and looked at a tree. Part of the tree was scraped off. She yipped and put her paws on it, then looked at the humans.

Amise paused to bend down and nose through the grass, and she glanced up to see a herd not far off. Focusing back on her grass, she was about to open her mouth when a sharp yip made her jerk her head up. Surprise flickered in her to see four dogs bounding towards the direction of her. Still taking no chances, the doe turned and shot off, weaving through the trees in fear that the hunters were aiming for her. She was sure that her alarm would spread through the herd - they weren't very far from where she was standing. Licking her nose to moist it, she sniffed the air, noting that the hunters would still have the chance to aim for her. Stumbling farther into the forest, she paused once and a while to sniff the air for any scent of enemies.

Mollie came to a sudden stop as she watched a large, slim figure bound through the forest. Sniffing the air she realised it was a deer and whipped around. Barks escaping her maw and Trent nodded "Doe!" He shouted and let out a fire from the gun. The bang echoed through the forest as the bullet shot through the air; missing the doe by an inch "Dang!" He cursed and stomped a foot at the ground. Buddy snarled and follwed the direction the doe had went in, Mollie and the others hurrying to the herd. The brittanies legs extended and paced back and fro as he bounded after the slim best.

Alarm rushed through Amise as the barks grew louder, and she quickly resumed to a sprint, dodging the trees as she dared not to look back. She wondered how long it would take to shake off the hunters from her trail, but with the four dogs leading the way, she was sure they would catch up in no time. An idea bursted through her mind, and she quickly turned, heading towards the small river which was not far. She slowed down when she neared the water, and she hurried into the river, splashing the water around herself as she tried to pick up her pace. She stumbled a little, not noticing the small rock under her. Her ears swiveled towards the sounds of the footsteps crunching in the dead leaves, and she did her best to ignore it as she clambered onto the other side. Shaking out her fur, she pressed deeper into the trees, sending the grass whispering to each other as she brushed past them.

Aspen skidded to a stop, hearing a gun shot. He didn't hear a plop or thump after it. Hopefully nobody was killed. He turned to the herd, "Everyone, there is a clearing up ahead, get there, and get the fawns in the middle! I will go back and investigate." Slash looked at Aspen, "Ok Aspen.. just don't.. get shot." Slash led the herd towards the clearing. Aspen walked in the opposite direction.

Slash looked at her, then up ahead, "Here is the clearing!" He rushed into the clearing, and skidded to a stop. The does made a circle, containing Bella, Dakota, and Delilah in the middle. Slash looked back at the three fawns, then back into the forest, "Hopefully Aspen is ok..."


Aspen walked through the forest, his head low and his ears pricked. Suddenly he heard the mad barks of hunting dogs. He whipped around and raced back to the herd.
