Ok so as the title states I need help with a map. You see I had made the height map and everything I did everything this tutorial said to do http://www.feral-heart.com/index.php?option=com_jfusion&Itemid=2&jfile=index.php&topic=17452.0 (http://www.feral-heart.com/index.php?option=com_jfusion&Itemid=2&jfile=index.php&topic=17452.0) Up until the terrain maske because when I went to load my height map Feral Heart stopped working. It was as if it just said Nope I'm done.

I had looked around a bit for answers to why this was happening and how I could fix it some solutions I found were to simple just rename it or make sure it was in grayscale and all that. I tryed to rename it that didn't work and I made sure everything was up to key and everything was perfect it was in grayscale, 513x513 everything.
So I'd like to know any other ways I might be able to fix this. I'm very very interested in making maps, but I can't do what I want if I don't have a height map am I right? So if you know anything I'd really appreciate your help. Should I reinstall Feral Heart? Should I use a different program? Anything. Thanks.

If you're using Photoshop or Gimp then you don't need to switch art programs. o3o Also, if you have any Alpha Channel on then I'd suggest turning it off. Or lessening some detail perhaps?
And shrinking it to 512x512 could be a thing too possibly, though not sure it might work but it's worth a try to crop it. (Even though I never learned to crop in Gimp 2.8 or even 2.6!)
Just a few suggestions I hope might help.

Alright thankyou I'll try those couple things out.
-
Sadly none of those ideas worked but thanks anyway for the suggestions Hugrf.

Huh, weird. Perhaps try saving it differently, or saving it as .jpg then back to .png? Or renaming it perhaps even? Try redoing it hopefully, that might work too as my last suggestion...

When you name it, try naming without spaces. Make sure you it is in grayscale, because in RGB it will certainly crash. If you have used colours (British spelling :/) such as red or blue in grayscale because they come up gray, with would recommend changing them to the gray equivalent (Doesn't make a lot of sense -.-) <-- Rewording- Change the colours so if it was in RGB it would all be gray.
Is everything on one layer? If not, I would try that as well.

Sadly it didn't work, gosh I just don't know whats wrong D:

If you remade the map entirely and it's still not working then maybe you should reinstall FH... o3o don't forget to probably save some of your .cfg's in the main FH folder on another location of your computer though. It's not uninstalling I know, but still.

Alrighty I redid the entire thing, reinstalled feral heart everything I redid and it still hasn't worked. I found that I was able to use height maps people had given out to the public for free but I wasn't able to use my own. I even tried uploading it to mediafire and downloading it. Does any body know what else I could possibly do?

Exactly what program are you using, then? o3o

Gimp

If you can use the map maker all the way until you enter your names of your images you are either putting the wrong names or file extensions in or you simply didn't make the heightmap or mask correctly, causing the game to crash.
I'd really suggest looking through video tutorials and follow exactly what's done and see if it works after that. Don't try to make something special, just make something basic follow the instructions/tutorial throughout and make sure EVERYTHING is correct and then import it to the game and see if it works.
I will provide two tutorials below that both explains heightmap making and terrainmasks for you both in PS and Gimp.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTO8tyhSQPU (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTO8tyhSQPU)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tN6lMKdKBkQ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tN6lMKdKBkQ)
Follow those into the last detail when things are being made and see if the issue still arrives. I'm rather positive that the images are made incorrectly in one way or another.

Ok thanks a lot Red I'll see if I can get it working

I am going to go over everything you should do.
Make sure it is Grayscale
1 Layer only, if you have more you should flatten it, even sometimes flattening doesn't work though.
513X513 or 512X512
Remember to put Terrain at the end of the file name, for example: worldTerrain.png
Make sure its .png
Make sure its in the maps folder
Hope it helped, although I know you've tried most of these :3
