Title: Trouble with terrain maps?
Post by: S-T3 on November 01, 2013, 03:51:12 am
So, I just came back to feral heart, with a faster computer, and got into making maps yet again.

And, like before, when I'm making a terrain map, it never works.  ; x ;

The image is 513X513, each color exactly like how the tutorial (http://www.feral-heart.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=5&Itemid=9) said so.

I have tried it in both PNG. and JPEG. but still little to no result, even when making a completely flat map.

Is this a bug, or is it just that I happen to be doing something wrong?

Thanks for any answers, if anyone knows what is up.
because I have no clue what the problem is

Shrink it to 512x512 maybe, make sure it's greyscale, make sure the alpha channel is off and what program do you use? owo

Just a few simple suggestions.. hope I helped a tiny bit. xD

I uh...I did everything correctly so far and the terrain textures never show up. ;m;

I use gimp for nearly everything if that helps out a little.
And alpha was on, but turning it off did nothing as far as the textures go...

I've also been having problems with the terrain map. I'm currently trying to put on a Fallout New Vegas theme and it will not pull up.

Amber, can you please make another thread for your problem? Someone might help you too. ^^

Also, try lessening some detail possibly if the terrain seems pretty detailed. That's another suggestion that works, even for me once...

Well, I just watched a feral heart music video and noticed that the weird tunnel (ficho?) is rock textured, and that Flourite looks like it has grass textures. For me, all the areas only look like the default African grass. >,..,<;

Is this a glitch? It has me seeing everything as the default terrain, so that's probably why I haven't been able to see any terrain on my own maps.

which is probably why feral heart looked a bit bland for me

Would you happen to know how to fix this, Hugrf? ; u ;

Usually if you have an issue with seeing other textures there's 2 crooks that has to do with it.

First one could be that you or someone else messed around with the material files on the computer or removed other media that might be needed, a fresh install of is really suggested, removing your old FH game usually located in C:\FeralHeart folder, make sure it's all gone(unless you want to backup something then make sure to backup your files first). Then download a new installer of this site, then install the game again with that one. Try to run the game again once it's installed and check if it made any difference, but do not slap your old files back into the game until you know it works as it should with the textures.

If it didn't work still.

It's most likely due to your graphics card not being able to DRAW the textures and materials properly. You should try to change your rendering mode for the game between Direct3D9 and OpenGL(swap to the one you do not use at the moment and restart the game) and see if it makes any difference. If you still are unable to see different ground textures you'd need to consider installing updates/drivers for your particular graphics card or chip on your computer, in some cases it can even be that you are playing on an too old system and the newest drivers are no where new enough, in that case try to use another computer if possible.

A rule of thumb that seems to be fairly accurate when it comes to feralheart, is that graphics processors or in general computers bought before 2004-2005 might not be able to show FH as it's meant to be shown.

@Red

I'm pretty sure it had something to do with my graphics card, since about a week ago, I deleted my install and had to grab it again, but I still had no clue there were textures in any map besides the default.

It does not give me the option to choose between Direct3D9 and OpenGL, it is constantly on Direct3D9, though I can click on it, it will not show the other options.

I also have no clue how to update my graphics card, or even look at the company who made it. How would I find out who made it, exactly? Is the graphics card visible, or is it more of an internal thing?

As for drivers, the same kind of thing confuses me as to where to update them, or find out what kind of driver my computer may have.

Sorry if this sounds kind of dumb, I'm not too great at these things. c;

Due to a glitch there you will not be able to change your rendering mode yourself before launching the game, you may only change the rendering mode from within the games option menu in the video tab, or if you open the ogre.cfg file with a text editor and change the line holding which rendering mode should be used for the game. Keep in mind that you must restart the game in order for the changes to take effect.

When it comes to the drivers however the first step for you would be to find out what sort of graphics card you actually have on the computer you're running and if it even has and display drivers installed to begin with.

Well, my computer must be too old, I guess.

I had updated my graphics card and so on, and also exchanged Direct3D9 with OpenGL, but nope, nothing.

Perhaps I can purchase a new laptop, I'll just have to live with it for now. c;

thank you for the help you all provided, I hope it could help someone else as well with their problems.

What sort of laptop are you using?

Full name in this case which means Brand and then series and then particular number/type of computer in that series. You should be able to find a sticker on the back of the computer telling you what exactly it is.

I'm not sure if, say, this was the exact things you may have mentioned, but I'm still a tad bit new to this stuff.
I ran a few weird things to look at it, since the sticker doesn't state the computer name and such.

System Manufacturer: Gateway
Computer Name: USER-FFD4564B31
Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600)
System Model: M275
BIOS: Rev 1.0
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1600MHz

If this isn't it, I could always take off a few parts to see if the company hid the sticker somewhere, or run a few other things for help.

I'm very safe to say that it's due to the age of the laptop, from what I can find that computer is from around 2003 which is most likely why it cannot draw the textures properly, and I do not think there's any drivers that would sort this out I'm afraid.
