Title: Best Computer?
Post by: StarTheEmoWolf on November 01, 2013, 12:32:16 pm
I have an old PC and I move around a lot on FH, and since I am getting a new PC.. I was wondering if someone could suggest what kind would be best for downloading maps and other things for the game without it laggin hardcore or crashing. And hopefully will be compatible with going into maps, not just downloading them.

Mm.. Well, there are a lot of good (and also bad) computers out there, but it's really something I suggest asking the personnel at the store you're buying your computer from. Chances are, they'll be able to direct you to the right computer.

Although, I will say that from my experience.. You don't want any Acer computer (I'm talking laptops, since that's what I have). I had one for years, and while it was perfectly functional for FH, it was difficult for me to multi-task in other windows while playing. It lagged, regardless, and so gameplay was a challenge at times. While I'm at it, I don't recommend Dell, either.

Since this summer, though, I switched to a Toshiba Satellite (the 15-inch touch-screen version), and I've been very pleased with it. It has an intel core i5 processor and 4 GB of memory (I think, it might be 6), and wasn't too terribly expensive for its longevity and performance. I've been very happy with it, and any game I play runs like a river, including FH, and even in the laggiest spot in Bonfire.

My only complaint is that it has Windows 8. Yuck. xD But, I prefer this to my old Acer.

Just ask around, and see what some others may have that might suit you. c:

I have a 2012 Lenovo laptop and it runs the game perfectly without ANY lag in the public maps. It's big, though, and heavy, and is Windows 8. My sister has an Acer and I hate it. It's slow, the Harddrive goes out every six months or so, and the mouse doesn't work anymore. I also had a dell and it worked well but it's not heavy-duty in any way and after four years of use it's almost useless, when the company said it was supposed to last five+.

I have a 2013 Pavilion g6 laptop with Windows 8. It handles games very well, considering along with Feral Hearts item packs, custom maps, and mass markings, there's also a couple 3d games I've downloaded... not to mention I have to use this for school -.-
But yeah don't get Acer because apparently no one likes those ._. (I don't know why though..)

I have a Windows 7 Acer... my mom's laptop and dad's computer are both Acer's I think. They can be a little tricky or bad, but depending on how smooth it goes and it's age I'm guessing. I like Acer's really, but I might not suggestion it all the time. Still, they're not that laggy if you know how to handle them. At least, that's these computers to me.

Not sure, maybe an Acer might be good still. Not the laptops probably, but as long as you're not stuffing an Acer computer with stuff then it should be nice. Though, there are probably other suggestions as I've seen above that work better.

((Ugh, this post is probably pointless. Sorry.))

OS X Mac, Snow Leopard is what I normally use
Used to use my old Acer, until it got sick ;-;
Not sure if most maps work on the MAC,  but some do, and so do some item packs ect.

My computer? Well... It is worse than a crate of rotten tomatoes. -.-
Okay, not that much xD But I still hate my computer. >.>

It is Asus, 10+ years old. It sounds like an airplane taking off. Horrible video card. For example, when I TRY to play The Sims 3, the graphics are just... Ew. Sims' hairs blend with their clothes.
Not sure about its other basic information, have to check it out, lol. /I'm on my mother's laptop. Thanks God!/

Lag, lag, lag, lag. Want to know what does lag mean? Come play feral heart on my computer. I barely enter Fluorite Plains, not to mention about getting further in the map, Stone Bridge for example. I just CAN'T remain in Fluorite Plains and Bonfire Island.

Another thing I hate - I can't download cool and big maps with glorious meshes and etc., again due to the LAG. I'm going only with usual maps, but they are nothing special so there's no point for me to add them in my game.

Gosh, I dream for a Dell (or whatever) laptop with Windows 7 or 8 and everything needed so Feral Heart and other games run perfectly. Poor me. xD

For one thing, I don't recommend a Mac because they aren't meant for gaming and your game controls will collide with the keys. (Lighting adjusting, adjusting the volume via keyboard, etc.)

I have a 2013 HP laptop (got it right along with the new year xD), um, very fast. I can handle any spot in any default or custom map with no lag at all. And I have water reflection on. I have the full set of August 22 markings, realistic feline and canine masks/textures, a game texture mod, most default mods retextured, a few presets, several maps and more. I apologize if I'm bragging. xD But... yeah! I think my laptop's good, not to mention I can bring the fun anywhere I go. ;3 (However I prefer not to.)

As said before, however, I think you should ask someone selling computers and consider their choice.

I have an Asus, it's about a year old and it works great!  it runs windows 7.  I don't have a whole lot of mods and whatnot but FH runs really well on it.

Mine's not designed for gameplay so it heats up if I play games for a couple of hours but other than that I can't complain.

Thank you for all the suggestions. I will be very thankful for the help. The funny thing is though, that I have only two computers; A Acer laptop and a Dell desktop so I kinda had the worst kind. X3 Thank you all again.

Name and brand is completely(or at most part) irrelevant in all honesty. It's all down to the hardware inside of it and how good it is.

It's really just to try to get the best bang for buck, and ask someone else you know to find a good laptop for you that knows a thing or two about computers and it's hardware(and do not ask the salesmen because most of them just want you to waste your money). But you will not be able to say "I have an acer with windows 8 and it's lag free" since it's not very accurate on what it actually has within and what sort of settings you might run the game on.

When it comes to just downloading stuff off the internet and installing maps most computers will do fine honestly even more so if you'd buy one new.

Like Red said it's not so much the brand you want to focus on. Look at the computers specs, harddrive information and so forth. If you're just playing Feralheart I'd say you could get away with a laptop though I personally prefer deskstops. However if you plan to play other games and download huge maps and a ton of stuff a desktop probably would be better.

The higher the graphics card, the better, though decent graphic drivers can be alot more- sometimes it's cheaper to buy those out of a store like online. Hrmm. If you get a brand new computer chances are it'll have Windows 8 so maybe ask if you can downgrade or if they have any with Windows 7.. Windows 8 is horrible, for me personally.

A important thing to look into is how many cores it has multi-core computers run faster and overall may help speed things up for all of your games without the need to get fancy graphics. My computer right now is a quad core processor and compared to my dual core it is so amazingly fast on FeralHeart. ALso keep an eye no how much harddrive space and RAM it has.

If it helps you at all here are my computers specs- I run FeralHeart just fine. c:

Processor: Intel(r) Core(TM) i5-3330 CPU @ 3.00GHz
Installed memory (RAM): 8.00 GB
System Type: 64-bit operating system, x64 based processor

I think the age and abilities of the laptop might be the things making all the difference.

My computer runned well at first; an old HP Pavillion that my grandma gave me. It could handle FH without barely any lag, but it took time to download maps. This year, though, it began to lag. The loading screen would stay there for ten minutes, then I either found out that I had a bad token or that I succeeded. In that case, a twenty minutes lag with the map's name. Meanwhile, I click everywhere, only to find out that twenty minutes later that I clicked on the X.

My sister's laptop is an old 2008 Asus, still pretty much younger than my computer. It handles FH without lag, except in areas like Stone Bridge and Lagfire. Rapidity at downloading maps.

My mom's laptop is a 2010 Asus with the ability to run Skyrim faster than a Xbox, and that, without any lag.

I checked out the label on the Asus', they have good graphic cards and such. Will edit post after taking a better look.

I have one more question. Would you suggest a Laptop or a Desktop,  Or would
it not matter?

To play a game like FeralHeart you'd be able to do so on either no matter what sort of computer you might get, however.

This question of laptop or desktop is all down to a matter of personal preferences. If you want to be able to carry your computer around a lot, move it, sit in different places and work/play on it, then you'd want a laptop. If you want to sit more comfortable at a desk and have a computer running for longer times, no need to charge constantly or worry about general "wear and tear", you'd want a desktop computer. Of course you could get both as well, but not everyone love computers that much nor want to spend so much money on something that pretty much does the same thing.

I can list some quick and somewhat obvious pros and cons list for you and one can determine a bit more themselves what is worth and what is not. I know this could be explained in a more detailed manner, but this is generally speaking.

Pros Laptop:
-Easy to move around and use in different places
-Unbox it and use it, you don't need to get a lot of extra things.
-It barely takes up any space.

Cons Laptop:
-Laptops tend to run more hot due to the limited space it's all packed into, especially if playing games.
-You need to charge your battery, and the overall lifetime of a battery can vary a lot.
-Not everyone carry around things like a mouse, keyboard and a bigger external monitor so the "experience" might not be as good.
-If something breaks hardware wise on your laptop, it's not as easy to fix it, and in some cases hard to replace at all.
-Due to the smaller form factor, you pay more for less in many cases.

Pros Desktop:
-More value for your money when it comes to raw computing power.
-Easier to maintain and fix if something breaks or needs to be replaced.
-No need to worry about charging it or your battery going dead.

Cons Desktop:
-You need to spend some money on things like a monitor, mouse and keyboard unless you already possess this.
-You will be stuck at a desk most of the time or at least in your very home, this is not something you carry around obviously.
-It's bigger, what can I say.

There's more, and things could get even more detailed but this is just general speaking.

I have a Cimpaq 6910 HP laptop. It runs fairly smoothly and it's pretty good with maps, markings etc. minor lag but I can't complain. It's got Windows 7 and I've had it for about 2 years, maybe? I wouldn't recommend it because it's a fairly old version, 2011-2013 computers will probably be better. Alienware is alright...

This is great for any decent PC/Laptop you might get. What I do advise you on avoiding though is Toshiba, Dell, and Acer.

The rest of the laptops will be well for downloading and from crashing. If you want to buy a fairly cheap laptop with good specs, you should probably look up ASUS, Lenevo, Fujitso. On an exception on avoiding Acer laptops, I currently have an Acer Aspire V571 with Windows 8. It runs well with FeralHeart and with downloading. Good luck.

I have a Dell, Dell is good for running FH, but I can't multi-task on it. If I tried skyping, playing FH, and getting on the forums, it would lag.

If you don't want lag, go into the in-game options, turn water reflection off, anti-alising off, and it should run faster.

That's not the problem. Both of those are off. The problem is that my computer isn't able to run 3 other windows while playing FH.

I've got a HP Pavilion 15 Sleekbook ( Windows 8 ) and I can download almost anything on it. Maps, mods, massmarkings, items, interface, textures, presets, pretty much stuff like that. However, I cannot download meshes because it will makes my game crash immediately. I've seen presets that are .fhp files and I cannot open files like that, so yeah.

It's a good computer, good virus protector and everything but every few months I have to delete the icon and download it again, because it will lag majorly after a period of time.
