Title: Map maker crashing help: SOLVED: Thanks again, Ruby!
Post by: sealsmissy on November 30, 2013, 01:26:42 pm
I keep having a problem with the map maker, and it's getting really annoying.
I made my first map sometime ago, but never got around to putting it in. Well, I was running around bored in Feralheart and decided to start trying to make the map and stuff. I logged out, headed to the map maker, and dutifully followed the tutorial;
putting in the name for the map. I then went to input the terrain name {lastclansterrain.png} I finished typing it in and went to put in the alpha map name.
And it crashed.
I was confused but figured it was just Feralheart being obnoxious with me. I went to put in the terrain name and did so, then realized I forgot to put in the map name. I went to click on the tab to do so-
And crashed again.
I can't think of why it's doing this! As soon as I put in the terrain name and click elsewhere, hit enter, or hit tab, it crashes! It is in png format, I'm almost positive it has one layer, is saved in greyscale, is 513 x 513.
The only problem I can think of is alpha channel, and when I made it I remember being told how to turn it off, so that can't be the problem!
Help?

Are you using GIMP? (Keep a copy of the original.)
Open the image and crop it to 512x512.
Then right click the layer and click Flatten Image.
Then try exporting it again.

Ooh, calm down girl, it's fixable.
Try going to Options>Video>Rendering Subsystem and switching it to whichever one isn't already highlighted.
Restart FH.
(Some people might suggest you make your own thread next time as well.)

Then right click the layer and click Flatten Image.
Then try exporting it again.
I did as you suggested, and feralheart simply stopped responding. It didn't outright say it crashed, just simply whitened and helpfully said in my bar that it was (not responding). I'd say it's a definite improvement, though.

Murrkay, open it, and then select it all and press Ctrl & C to copy it.
Close out that image so you have a blank canvas, and press Ctrl & V to paste it, then right click and flatten, then export.

The same thing happened as before.
EDIT:: I actually went and made a new map, for giggles, figuring that it might just be that map. The same thing happened. I realized I'd left sims 3 up and a couple of other programs, and closed them down. I typed in both of them again, but they came up with the original message; 'Feralheart has stopped working.' Details simply said something like 'APPCRASH' or similar.

Does it have anything to do with WHERE I put it? I put it in Feralheart > Media > Terrains > Default, since that's where the other masks are.

I don't think it matters where they are put, but I put mine up one folder, just in media > terrians
If that doesn't work, try a different format, like .jpg.

Okay, I'll try putting it up one.
And I don't know how to convert anything but XCF {gimp} to PNG.
EDIT:: Nope, didn't work.

Can you send me your heightmap?
I'll see if I can get it to work myself, then send it back.

and the mask worked just fine then as well;

So here are your new textures for LastClans:

Let me know if these work for you, and then if you want me to do desolate as well. c:
