Title: Map Maker Height map problems
Post by: SilverAlpha on December 02, 2013, 10:15:54 pm
I know there are a bunch of threads out there with Height Terrain help, but none of them seem to have the answer.
I recently just started making a new map, so I drew the Height terrain.
But every time I type it into the Map Maker, FH just freezes, gives me a 'FH has stopped working' message, and then closes.
I did everything correctly tho (At least I hope so).
I drew the terrain in GIMP, on Grayscale mode, the canvas was 513x513, I flattened the image and exported it as PNG into the Feralheart Terrains folder. The Mask map works just fine tho, so I dont even know whats going on with the Height map.

If you're willing to send it to me I'll see if I can get it to work, and then tell you what I did to get it to.
Sometimes you just really have to mess around with them until they work, there's no real step by step or anything.

Have you tryed exporting it as a .jpg? I used to have the same ishue exporting as a png,  but useing the .jpg not a single ishue. It may not just be what it is exported as, but maybe try doing that, if it dosnt work give meh a PM.

I'm guessing that since you said you'd flattened the image, does that mean you used layers? Cause if you use layers your heightmap will not work. Even if you delete the layers after, you'd have to start it on a new canvas without using new layers. ;P

I had a problem very similar to this, even though I did everything else right. See if my solution works:
Go to 'image properties' under the image menu. see what the resolution is. The resolution I needed was 72.009 x 72.009 ppi.
Go to 'Scale image' under the same menu. Instead of scaling the size, scale the 'x resolution' and 'y resolution'. You can try 72.009 and see if that works. If not, you can expiriment until it does.
I hope that helps!

Before saving, manually put the layers all into the background layer. Then save as .png.
