Title: Needs Some New Music -- Suggestions?
Post by: Sheka on January 05, 2014, 09:39:29 am
So I listen to a lot of rock, it's all I like. Punk, indie, classic, progressive, opera, alternative, it doesn't matter too much to me. To give you an idea, this is a list of some of my favorite bands. Random order obviously, but there's a few new, quite a few from the 90's and a couple old 70's bands.

-Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
-Aerosmith
-The Beatles
-Black Sabbath
-Van Halen
-Nirvana
-Stone Temple Pilots
-Pearl Jam
-Foo Fighters
-Green Day
-The Killers
-Linkin Park
-30 Seconds to Mars
-Alice in Chains
-Social Distortion

So based on those, are there any albums/bands/songs like them that you can suggest for me to listen to? Any comments greatly appreciated. I have 1200 songs on my iPod and not one appeals as much anymore :(

Oooh nice selection of bands. Me gusta. ^^

Try listening to Shinedown and Three Days Grace. If you taste in music in anything like mine, I think you'll like them. :)

THANK YOU!

I looked up the artist in the first post and was like, "Ew, I really don't like furries." I still have to check out TangledBowtie's tumblr, so that will be fun. But thanks for the suggestions! I've heard of my friends talking about them, especially Three Days Grace so I hope I like them and will get back to you on that!

I listen to Red Hot Chili Peppers! I love them haha. Brandon Flowers is the lead singer of the Killers. If you never heard of him with his band they're AMAZING I HIGHLY recommend them ugh. They're one of my favs. But yeah and I used to listen to Jimmy Eat World. I'd love some more suggestions, because we seem to share some similar bands :D

I pretty much just went through my iTunes and looked at every band that might interest you and some that you may like eventually. XD I've been to many of these artists concerts and I enjoy ATLEAST one song per album if not the entire thing. I really only dislike country music ( because it all seems to plan out their entire day. " put my boots on, get in my truck...." Yeah hahahaha but umm try these out. :3

- kings of Leon
- hot chelle Rae
- all American rejects
- finger eleven
- family force five
- owl city
- fall out boy
- good Charlotte
- panic! At the disco
- bayside <3
- yellow card ( seeing them live this month)
- red jumpsuit apparatus
- boy's like girls
- matchbox 20

Thank you for the options. I've been making this list of bands everyone's telling me to check out. I Really appreciate all you guys who are responding with some bands I've never even heard of! I've heard people suggest Yellowcard many times before, so I suppose I should check 'em out first, eh?

Also I've heard of Owl City, and no offense, I really don't like them. Fireflies is too happy for me haha.  But I totally agree with you about country, they only really write about five things: girls, tractors, partying, America and the weather. Legit.

I used to listen to Boys Like Girls! Back when I was a kid I loved them. Others I've heard of are Kings of Leon (like one song) and FallOut Boy (the song "Sugar We're Going Down") and Matchbox 20 sounds familiar. Finally, All-AMerican rejects rings a bell...

Ugh I really hate country... no offense :P

Update: I tried listening to Yellowcard, I don't really like it either... oh well. Though I've grown to like All Time Low and Three Days Grace, so I'm hoping I'll get a chance to listen to everything else people posted :D

I'm going to have to step back about five or six years for this. My taste in music used to be like yours, then I began to find really bizarre stuff fascinating. I still appreciate the old stuff, though. SO I apologize in advance if I throw in a few things that don't match your interests at all; I'm having trouble getting into the other mindset.

I second the suggestion for Brand New; that used to be my absolute favorite band.

King Crimson was formed in the late 60's; you might recognize the song "21st Century Schizoid Man" because it was poorly mixed into Kanye West's very popular song "Power" (yes, this upset me). He just had to try to ruin their good name. In the Court Of The Crimson King is one of their more accessible albums, as is Lizard. The song "Lizard" is fabulous but about 23 minutes long. Actually, this is a band that I currently love--not an old interest.

Hurt is another former favorite band, though I have to say that I was impressed by their latest album. I think "Losing" is a pretty good representation of their music.

Deftones is an obligatory suggestion - I suggest the song "Deathblow"

And a few others:
Crippled Black Phoenix - The Brain/Poznan
Cynic - Carbon Based Anatomy
Katatonia - In The White
Manchester Orchestra - Where Have You Been?
A Perfect Circle - The Outsider

The second parts of each suggestion above are songs that represent the band well enough. Sometimes I seem to stumble upon some of the worst songs produced by a particular band, assume the band is terrible, then return to it later and find that the other songs sound nothing like whatever I found.
