Title: Possible Advertising Solution.
Post by: Lokiisboss on January 14, 2014, 03:06:46 am
By now everybody knows theres a HUGE issue regarding advertising. People crash in FP constantly, have their members stolen by larger rp's, and the maps are far to widespread to actually advertise to the targeted audience. So I was thinking... maybe people could designate one specific map for advertising. Not a downloadable map- but a map everybody always has. I thought further on this- and came up with a good idea.
...
Why not use the Cape of Distant Worlds?

  • The map is small and narrow, perfect for browsing rp's
  • It has a portal to both FP and downloadable maps RIGHT THERE
  • Not very many people role-play in that map, so we could easily designate the entire map for advertising.
  • Easy access from the Lonely Cave
  • Simple for the advertisers and the browsers! Advertisers could just sit down with their group and wait for people to walk by while browsing the current selection of advertising rp's, both mapped and unmapped.
  • It would slow down the movie spam, because people could advertise in local
  • It would solve a lot of issues with advertising in such a large map with South Pole and Flourite Plains, and people almost 100% of the time can get it.
Anyone else agree with me? I know that I'm going to start advertising there. Hopefully it catches on!

Not a bad plan at all, I hope it catches on!

I admit that I haven't heard nor thought of something like this. It could provide to be a successful method if used properly by a variety of other members who deem it interestin'. The only flaw I could foresee would be a bit of lag in the map due to its more lilliputian size compared to how many individuals advertise daily. However I could be wrong in such a matter, ye' never know. A splendid idea worth tryin' nevertheless.

I absolutely adore this idea! Fluorite is always way too crowded with the movie spammers, and Stone Bridge? I have only seen it empty ONE time because there was a major loss in connection for 2 minutes; then it was full again. And I'm really annoyed with the movie spammers. People are annoying when it comes to this.. I have asked them nicely before to please stop movie spamming but they never do. And I mean, people are hardly ever in cape. I only ever go there because I need to get to Fluorite quickly, so I go through the portal there; or I go to one of the downloaded maps. Either way, I'm hardly there for long. Cape would be a FANTASTIC place for ads! It would mean:
1. Easier access to maps for the roleplays
2. Less lag attack in Fluorite
3. Less movie spamming
4. Quicker group finding if you have a new charrie
and
5. It would just be easier! With less Fluorite lagging, roleplays would be better.

This would be a good Solution I must Admit.
It would become a Bazaar of Sorts.

However.

A Good Chunk of people In-Game do not read the forums, therefore, it might not catch on quickly.

Let's just hope it can catch on.

Hopefully. I'm glad I'm not the only one who agrees that idea will work. I guess we will have to go in game a few times and spred the idea at stonebridge and other advertising points on the map. The best we can do right now though would be to start advertising there.

I, too, agree with this idea. I find it annoying when I'm hanging with my friends in Fluorite and most of the time I can't even catch what they're saying with all the movie spam. I hope this works. ^^

I was going to make a specific advertising map, but this is a better idea!

A very good idea~

Also, as said above, a large amount of people sadly do not check the forums and will not see this idea.
However, the Cape is a train station of people funnelling into FP (The place that is currently most advertised in) and THEREFORE people will pass through it!

If some see people advertising there, or even advertising this idea, it may catch on with the users who are not forum-active.

The Cape of Distant worlds is the best map under the circumstances.

(Note: It may become a problem if this idea is TOO popular... then people will complain of crashing when trying to reach public maps?)

I don't want to be a party pooper, and I do actually think it's a better idea to take it to cape itself, it's closer and more functional for roleplay advertising.

However, the issues stated in the beginning. The problems come with the users themselves, the more people you have starting the advertising in cape, the more you will see the things you do not like right now, the same thing goes for many things in the game, go to crowded places and you can benefit from it, but you'll also see other things shine through that are less fun.

Things like lag(crashing for some, not all which is honestly not fixable), movie spamming, spamming in general, people stealing members from each others roleplays, etc, etc, this is something that really comes with the more people you shove into the map or spot itself. The positives of Cape being smaller and more close to most things is also it's downfall if you think about it, fluorite has always been the most optimal map to the user since it's in the center of the map network and is the biggest and most content filled map. When you think about it closely, anything, any function or place the majority can gain from in FeralHeart, there's also things to loose from it or that can cause issues, IF, it's not executed properly or designed to work in a bigger manner with more users in one place.

However it would make more sense to me if people did spend more time in cape, who knows maybe the sitting in fluorite is a temporary thing, and people will move and adapt to different locations depending on their particular needs. People in this game adapt to what they consider the optimal locations, and the masses follow. You can see this by taking a look at south pole and the type of characters there, taking a look at bonfire and what type of characters and roleplays take place there, but also fluorite itself. Different characters, different roleplays, and different types of roleplays in each and every place for better or worse.

If you believe in this idea to make Cape the new advertising map, and get others to follow you, this idea is not impossible since it's all about leaving a mark and encouraging others to do the same. And if people managed to make this change on a bigger scale, I do believe the more structured and non-instant roleplays would benefit from this in the length, so would all the users in the game.

A very good idea indeed. I must agree, I hope it catches on to those who are not on the forums as well!

I do, though, agree with Red. Cape would eventually be crammed with so many people and would turn to chaos. There are different RP's with different 'power'. For example, the people with high populated groups would have more luck advertising in Cape than those new, member less groups in Cape. I believe so because a large group+smaller map=the small groups being pushed away. Although, the idea is spectacular.
