Title: Some height map problems...
Post by: nubeees on May 07, 2014, 11:00:05 pm
So, I'm sorry if this is in the wrong thread, but I made a height map, can't find anything wrong with it... But whenever I try to load it up in-game, feralheart stops working...

Here is the height map, all help is appreciated.

Please make sure that the map file name is something like mapnameTerrain.png. I used to have this issue a lot, and make sure you used only 1 layer when making the height map. If you used multiple of them you can easily flatten the image. Also, make sure you saved it in the correct area. (FeralHeart >> Media >> Terrain)

Hope this helped.

See if this'll shed some light:

Quote
If you keep trying to type the heightmap into the mapmaker, it may crash if certain things weren't done correctly such as:
~513x513
~grayscale
~no alpha channel
~only one layer
~named "mapnameTerrain"
Sometimes if the greyscale is complex enough, it'll cause yer game to act up. Thus maybe if ye' make the scale a bit more simple, it'll be a bit more cooperative.

Ye' can also try lookin' here: >>Click here!<< (http://www.feral-heart.com/index.php?option=com_jfusion&Itemid=2&jfile=index.php&topic=1391.0)

OK! So adding Terrain to the name did nothing to help... NEXT!

Vespian, what do you mean by making the grayscale simpler?

He means try not to use fancy brushes when making the hight map. Sometimes the game cannot render certain types, meaning the game will simply crash. See that large black area to the right on your map? That could be the problem. I'd try editing that a bit. ^^

This is not the place to post this... Create a new topic in "game help." You'll get more answers, and look here:

Hey! So, I've noticed lots of help threads about this. Look here instead! It's usually just little things that are easy to fix.

1. Make sure your caps lock is not on. The login is caps sensitive! Make sure you're typing everything correctly.

2. Do not use the numpad! Use the numbers above the alphabet on your keyboard.

3. Does your username or password have any unusual symbols such as ?$!@*-_ ect.? This can mess things up for some people. Make a new account if you're having trouble with symbols. If you make a new one, please try to stick with a-z letters, nothing capitalized.

4. Make sure that your keyboard language is in English! It won't log you in unless you have a US keyboard setting.

5. If you're trying to log on ingame, make sure the server is up and running. You can do this by looking at the top of the banner of this forum.

6. Make sure you are logging in with your username, not forum nickname. My actual username is JazzForLife, and I log in with that. I do not use Jazzz, because that is my forum nickname.

7. Even if you change your password on the forum, your password for the game will always be the same you signed up with.

Hope this helped. If anyone has any more tips to add, tell me and I'll add them.

Also make sure your username and password don't exceed over 16 characters, otherwise you'll need to create a new account. Registration opens randomly for about two hours. Good luck on catching the registration if needed!

Alright, I tried simplifying my map by blurring it. Was that a good idea or a bad one?
(The game still crashes)

Top right, kind of in the middle. You should cover it over with a normal brush and then blur or smear it. When I get on my PC I could save the picture of the hightmap and test it myself. Maybe it's something else, but I'm not sure.

Ok! Thats what I thought. I'll go give it a try.

*Edit
Ok, I tried to blot out the entire crater looking thing in a plain white brush, and it didn't work. Could it be that little black dot I planned on putting an easteregg in?

*Edit again

Ok, its not that either. I guess its a good idea to give you the crash message as well! Here it is:

 Application Name:   FeralHeart.exe
  Application Version:   0.0.0.0
  Application Timestamp:   4efb3f02
  Fault Module Name:   libstdc++-6.dll
  Fault Module Version:   0.0.0.0
  Fault Module Timestamp:   4bc96cae
  Exception Code:   40000015
  Exception Offset:   0001bd1d
  OS Version:   6.3.9600.2.0.0.768.101
  Locale ID:   1033
  Additional Information 1:   a179
  Additional Information 2:   a1790118ecadf32075ab49fd62d63ffd
  Additional Information 3:   7bac
  Additional Information 4:   7bac3c77a7c840082a7bb26843e68c48

Also, to add to that, the lake area at the bottom right isn't the issue either

OK! Something EXTREMELY strange...
I got sick of whiting out parts of the map, and just whited out the ENTIRE thing... It still crashes! Something is wrong, but I can't figure out what. The name maybe? But I've also tried several names. It has to be something do do with the file, even though its greyscale 513 x 513...

Help? Anyone? O.O

*edit
Got it to work by copy/pasting into a completely new canvas.
Still want answers though... Anyone have any ideas?

Yeppers. It wasn't a problem with the image itself
