This has never been an issue before but now suddenly..it is?
Anyways, I create my map terrain in gimp on grayscale yes yes, I know what to do I've made maps before, maybe it's the brush I'm using? Noooo...
When I open them in the mapmaker, there's nasty edges EVERYWHERE >.< I tried to make simple hills but any increase or decrease in elevation that isn't solid in color looks awful!!
So I can't make and gradients at all, any hills would look like plateaus.
This is what the terrain looks like, I even blended everything together so it LOOKS smooth but..

Here's what it looks like in map maker :P

I'd love some help :/ I just want smooth nice hills..

How big is the map? The smaller the map, the more jagged edges that'll appear. I think a map around 10,000 would be suitable and smooth. o:

Mmm...that may help then, I believe this map is the default 5000

Mine's doing the same thing. I've tried what Genny said, but It didn't help.

What I do when this happens is go back into the image editor, blur it a tiny bit, then save it again. Maybe when you saved it the first time it exported at low quality. Sometimes this helps a bit for me. Also, the it's not the map's width, but the height also, because the higher the height the more jagged it is. This is just what I've experienced though.
