Title: What is your "character making" level?
Post by: angelre0702 on October 22, 2014, 10:55:20 pm
Alright, this is more of a self-based question. How high are your character making skills? Are they
the "prettiest" in the group, or do you really not care and they turn out looking like some wolfaboo.
This isn't to be rude, everyone's skills are different - But this isn't about the personality, more of
the F-H appearance.

and it doesn't fit in                                                     making skills. It takes time for you
with the group. You're                                                to think up a fair character; you don't
constantly making changes                                         just create it on the brink of discovery!

Master (6)

Unlike the others, you have
and portray examplory effort
on your character, adding in
some professional looks and
holding in an amazing scheme.
The eyes seem to pop and give
it that look people don't seem
to find very often, and the
markings definitely make people
stare at your character for a
moment. They're very well planned
out and you always seem to have
that "extra" thing people are
silently looking for. People tend
to compliment your characters, as
even you think they're truly
amazing. You sometimes add in a
few items to enhance the character,
only in a witty way, of course.

These ratings weren't meant to be negative in any way. c: If you're a 1, it doesn't mean you're ignorant for your character, just need a lil' practice! (( I chose myself to be a 5. ))

I'm honestly not sure, but I guess I'd give myself a 4.5 to 5 rating. I have received multiple compliments about my characters, and I am quite satisfied with Turtle's design along with my other characters.

...I think I'm actually 4 or 5 in my opinion, since I have been complimented before on my characters. I guess I'd mainly leave the decision up to people who have seen my characters, though. ^_^ But I do know for sure I'm always picky about what he/she looks in-game, whether or not the image is completely different from the appearance online.

Hm, interesting thing to think about. It's pretty different for all my characters; most are at an "advanced" level but I might have had one or two in the past at a "master" level

Hmm very interesting topic here ^.^
I personally think I'd give myself a 4-5, maybe. When I first started I have to say my character design was horrendous. I had some lessons though from a certain floof. That of course really helped me have better design ideas. xP
Usually I think of a character days or maybe even weeks before I actually make it in Feral Heart. I'll spend some time going over their looks and color scheme to match their personalities or species. Probably sketch them a few times. I never really just randomly decide to make a character. I wouldn't really call myself 'advanced' or really super 'original'. I mostly keep my characters simple and what fits them. Of course I have my own rules I go by when I make a character. Just picky little things because I usually like it just right. Most of my characters are probably around 4.5 (give or take). And like many others I do have a few very special characters that personally I adore and would give them 5-5.5s. Of course the real rating would depend on those who have seen some of my other characters.

Methinks I settle right there between 5-6.
Most of my characters, all except Creedance, have a semi-detailed preset I either commissioned someone to make or who someone made me as a gift (when I say someone, it's actually Wander-Bird via deviantART). I never really liked makin' my characters "mainstream" or like most other individual's character(s). I always thrive for a design that's relatively simple but hasn't been used before as far as I know. A majority of my characters are not even mortal, either bein' a custom-made species, like the Kruziik Nahlrii or Lutphen, or a creature who possesses immortal traits like The Puppeteer who's a poltergeist of sorts or Rauven who's older than sin itself but he still sports a young body. Really the only "normal" character I have is Creedance, but even his appearance is one-of-a-kind when it comes to the simple character creator and mass markings.
I will admit, I'm nitpicky as heck when it comes to a character's appearance. Granted I like leanin' towards the general semi-realistic scale, at times I'll spend 30 minutes to an hour tryin' to configure a character. Another thing to take note is none of my characters look the same and they all have different personalities to keep their company interestin'. In a way, I pour my heart into my characters once I make them original and decide to keep them. I scarcely just throw a character away less I have a reason to do so.

But keep in mind that every character is beautiful in the eyes of their creator. Some may praise their creations more highly than others but that never means their character(s) are better. While I personally give myself a 5-6 ratin', I'm sure I'll come across someone who may find my characters not as impressive as I perceive them or vice versa.

I personally think I'd be either a very high 4 or a low 5. Depends on the character. I am extremely OCD about my charries, and lately I've been updating my Nevica preset like crazy.

I honestly don't know what level I am on. I usually spend weeks making characters perfect and stuff. I usually get told how beautiful my characters are even tho I may not think so myself. Depending on the body I usually like a fairy slim and skinny character. I hate using the ''Wolf Tail'' and ''Wolf Ears'' for canines, they just look....too noobish and too triangular and big for me? I use ''Sharp Ears'' and either ''Thin Tail'' or ''Sickle Tail'' depending on the Character itself. I like fine nose lines on my Characters so I will adjust the nose bridge on my Characters. For Canines the cheeks need to be slim, but not too slim to notice there is no cheek bone what so ever. For Felines the chin needs to be the smallest possible. I know most ''Lions'' have a bit of a chin but in Feral Heart it seems very weird. Colors and Markings also depends on the Character Design I am going for.

Well, due to my recent FH character designs'n colors I've been thinkin' 'bout I would give myself a 5 out of 6. Most of my characters, nowadays, are quite complexed(excluding Wolfie, even though she's not a new addition). I've been sketching out ideas for several of my characters which will later(hopefully) become presets.
But, I know not if I will ever have the pleasure of a personal computer'n internet again. :c

A four or a five.

Why?

Because I don't really spend much time on making them and planning them out.

The max I've spent is.... Uhhh.... Forty minutes to an hour?

And the detail really varies, so most are more 'rushed'.

And I believe only one person has actually directly complimented a character of mine, so I hardly think people would be jealous of what little skill I have.

Hmm.. I'd rate myself maybe a 4 or.. 5.

I get a few compliments on my characters. (A lot of copiers too D8)
Then again I can be lazy and just.. throw stuff on my characters then I end up deleting them after a day. x'D
There's a few characters that I change a lot but again I usually give up on them and delete them after awhile.. Lawl I don't know. xD

I'd rate myself 6 then, except that I don't spent HOURS on it.
I use preset on some of my chars, and I've heard many people appreciating and giving me good feedback on my characters!
I also deeply concentrate, so it doesn't take hours. But maybe 20-35 minutes.

Here's 2 of my character, the one with MM3 as MANY people appreciated,
and the other one with my OC preset on, which many people liked, and said was amazing <3

I think I would place myself under the 5-6 category.
I take great effort into making my characters look very nice, and try to match their look with their personality and try to make them look as if they are very gentle. If I wish them to be evil then I match their pelt and eyes with the job.

Yet even though I try so hard to make the characters in my opinion I still lack in making them look as nice as I could. So I believe this is where my other fellow members opinion would come into play because I think my characters even though I try so hard on them could possibly use more improvement.

My rating would be between Average and Advance so 4.5 I guess. It depends how much time I choose to spend or how much time I have. I try to do my best to be at least average though so.. yeah If I have maybe up to half an hour, average. If I have tons of time I'll just randomly make a character probably partially advanced.. I don't know

Interesting topic.
I personally act a little like Vespian said above so I can give my self a rank inbetween the 5-6 range.

There isn't many characters I can throw away, unless I find a specific reason to.
So I've still got my first ever character (not only on FeralHeart) in mind, because I roleplayed as that dog over and over as the years passed by, but slighlty edited it.

I keep my character designs up to my limitless imagination first on paper, and then shape it to fit the markings inside the game.
I obviously use mass markings since the choice of the default markings doesn't give much of a unique 'choice'.
In total I have made 4 characters this year, and all in total I have 20. Many old, but they're still there, used.
Proud of all and using them daily there isn't much I can do with new characters. It's better to have a ratten design and modify it a little than a new character every time you play. Meh.

If I really don't like a character I end up giving it up or selling it on deviantart where other people trade the design for points.
These obviously aren't the feralheart characters, they're the original designs.
There ain't much things I trade anyway, like I said before I prefer keepin' my customizable characters to myself for a while.

I had fun reading all of the replies, and I've spotted that a lot of this ties with how we roleplay.

Hmm I would be 4-5 since I love making my charas but there is always this one problem about it making it less perfect to myself. And the worst thing for me is that whenever I put any pawesome pack items or new markings I am always worried that most people won't see them and instead see a naked marshmallow.

Hmm.. I'm not entirely sure what my ''charater making skills'' are.
I mean, I do spend about hours to make my charaters.
Most of my charaters is really detalied etc.
So I think I might be number 4 or 5. xD

I'd say that I'm 5.5? I spend a lot of time trying to make my characters the way I wish them to be. I often redesign them, also, to make them even prettier.

People often compliment my characters' look. Not long ago, I got the surprise to see one of my inactive characters, Golau, be featured in Bobtehcat's fh character appreciation week on tumblr, which surprised me.

I also put items on my characters, but only if needed.

I would say about a 5
Why?  Well, I try my hardest to make characters that are based off of set ideas and have an original taste to the coloring and a sort of back story as the character is in progress. I find it important to think of your own ideas and designs to set yourself apart from the others, but that doesn't always have to be portrayed with a preset, Mass Marking but even with the original markings a good/Great character can be created and youll find yourself playing on that character most often. [I know I do cx]
These arent the best examples, Ive been working on making 'Fresher' and more complex characters lately

I'd say a five or a six, mainly because I don't make a lot of chars anymore, and my two main ones have gotten many compliments and I have spent hours chipping away at what I could do better. I noticed that a lot of people love Maxwell just because of his design and personallity, heck he gets fangirls without even trying XP and Thyme is very pretty from what people say and they always recognize her :3 which makes me feel super awesome inside! Now as for other chars...meh...I make them look pretty, give them a small hint of personallity, then throw them on the stage and see what will happen, making those kind of chars usually takes me about an hour or so, which I usually draw and then trash them because I will never use them lol

I'm obviously a master, hahahahaah YOU ARE ALL PEASANTS.

Nah, just kidding! I'd have to say I'm average. I do put lots of effort into the designs of my serious characters that I plan to play, but I tend not to use mass markings or items since I know those features are rather buggy sometimes and I don't want to be wearing a spike collar and have another user see it as some massive horns.

Also, I have mass markings downloaded but I don't use them because I want everyone to be able to see my character's markings. :3

However, I have gotten several compliments on my Indian black eagle, Lazuli, (and a few fangirls/boys ehehehe) but I still wouldn't consider myself a master as she's really the only successful character that I have.
