Title: Character Inspirations
Post by: Wyldercat on February 21, 2015, 05:02:39 pm
We all have our little original characters. But even our own, entirely self-made characters probably came from somewhere.
So... what are the inspirations for your characters?

As for myself, my characters are mostly based off of video game characters, but altered more like myself.
For example, Twist and Codon are based off of Maplestory characters (Claudine and Xenon)

Ooo. Interesting topic.

Anime plays a huge role whenever I create a new character. I just. I'unno. Anime.

Ekel is based off of Crona Gorgon from Soul Eater.
Hexalyn is based off of Medusa Gorgon from Soul Eater.
And an old character of mine, Talon, was altered to somewhat resemble Levi Ackerman from Attack on Titan.

One character was inspired by the movie Coraline, however. His name is Sixarba, a doll or puppet character. He calls himself the Puppet Master and has some interesting relationships with each character o' mine.

So ye. All contain bits of me as well.

I knew this would be made. I have some characters that are actually inspired.
Let's see.. I have Oliver Sykes (Lead singer of a band called Bring Me The Horizon)
I have Gerard Way (Once a singer of My Chemical Romance but is now a solo singer)
I have Way which is an inspired character of Gerard Way but a little different.
I have.. Hm.. I have Antivist which was inspired by a song by Bring Me The Horizon.
I have a character which is named Zero which was also inspired by a song from Gerard Way.
I have Thor as a canine. (I love Thor)
I'm sure I have more but this is all I could remember.

My characters are originally based off animes that have supernatural powers and a lot of action, please not to mention gun fights. I love gun fights! Especially from the anime I'm watching now: Black Cat. A lot of action and mystery. xD I love these types of animes and it just inspires me to make a character that originates off it!

mmm. Good topic.
Well, I based Wolfie off of myself. other characters(such as my story characters... Keep your paws off) are either based off their real human self or parts of my personality ... or even both.
i really never got insiration for characters from tv shows. usually my own mind can thing somethin' up and dump it into a dream.

Hmmmm...... Well, music is mainly my inspiration for most characters, it's either sort sorta pop music or something along the end of goth tunes.

It's either music, some sorta picture, of some part of me that I use.

Other than that, it's all spur of the moment.

Before my character came to thought I haven't really much of a creative mind. Before, I would look at people preset and was trying to figure how it can good-looking and well-known. But when I read this post about being yourself and using your mind, I then came to thought and thought Kingdom Heart, which is based on a video game that occurs with Disney characters. Immediately, I fell in love. Especially with Sora.

Currently, two other characters are being worked on by two kind users here. Then again, these characters are based on a video game that I love.

My inspiration for my characters is how I feel at the moment I make them. If I am happy I will make an adorable bubbly character. If I am hurt or in pain I will most likely create a very sinister character.

My character Jumping is actually heavily based on my Animal Jam avatar. One day, I dressed my avatar in an outfit I became so fond of that I made him/her one of my OCs. I even copied his/her colour palette and name! But Jumping isn't canon or anything, so he/she can still be considered an OC, yes?

Ah yes.
As many may know, quite a few of my characters are very based on video game characters (well, Assassin's Creed 3 and 4 characters to be exact.)

If it wasn't obvious enough, my sona,  Jackdaw is heavily inspired by Edward Kenway from AC: Black Flag, in some of his personality, as well as a bit of his appearance.

Kelso, as I've stated before, is heavily based on Thomas Hickey, the Templar feom AC3. (;

So aye, it's easy to say my favorite video games influence my own characters for the most part.

However I do have one character, Canton, who is based on the famous Wild West outlaw, Billy the Kid.

I guess in summary, whenever I encounter a new obsession, be it a game or movie or era, a new character pops up that has aspects of a favorite personality from said obsession.

Huuurm....most of the chars I make are based on what I feel at the moment, like NQ said, or on very few chars from animes. And I only use two animes so far lol, Black Butler and Hetailia. Mainly BB. Maxwell I got from Claude from BB, and I love him to death <3 My fursona was supposed to be off of some girl off of Bleach, I never watched the show but I liked the girl's voice and style....but then...she slowly turned into me so now she is my fursona! Yea

Oddly enough, a lot of my characters are actually based off of animals or people I've known/worked with in real life.
For example, I have one character named Scrague who happens to be based off of my neighbor's dog. He has the same softspoken, slightly cowardly personality as him. I also have a horse OC whose personality AND name (Sterling <33) is taken from a horse I used to ride in the same barn as. In fact, a lot of my characters are named after horses ouo

Most of my character inspiration comes from music, dreams, old mythology,  and the people around me. With the exception of Heartbleed (my virus character) which was inspired by the actual Heartbleed bug.

My character, Llama, was actually based off of the character I played as on WolfQuest. FeralHeart Llama is actually nothing like WolfQuest Llama on the outside. FeralHeart Llama is bright green and is much wiser, but they have the one and same personality.

Lament on the other hand is loosely based off of Armin Miewes. I won't really go into who he is, but feel free to research him. His story is actually pretty interesting, if not grotesque.

For the design of my characters I just do whatever but since i'm about as good at designing characters as Batman is at a Mother and Son dance, my creations usually look like a rejected character from the Canteen scene in Star Wars.

As for names I just take a figure from various mythologies such as Fenrir or Thanatos.

Well, most of my characters/ and maps are based off Homestuck. cries I don't directly take their looks, or personality from the character but just the world and powers they possess.

And then other characters, like CEN+ and CEN- were based off Wreck's It Ralph's Cybug.

Well, most of my characters are based on animated movie characters.

I've got my main fursona who is is based off of Pitch from Rise of the Guardians and another who is influenced by Dracula from Hotel Transylvania. I'll still change them a bit, but at the core, that's who they're based off.

I've began noticing that most of my characters are based on the villains or darker colour-schemed characters in a movie. I can not remember the last time I thought of a traditional protagonist from an animated movie and based my characters off of him. I will, however base them off of unnatural protagonists if I like them.

To be honest, my characters aren't inspired by anything. I love my characters but they are more based off me than persons fom animes or something ^^;

As of right now, I am workin' on a second fursona.
{ I pitched Ugly completely, I didn't like another Wolfie. }
He is goin' to be a circus freak. Thee idea is from both my interest in circus freaks'n also that I am researchin' it for a project.
Woo. Motivation.

i actually have quite a few characters some names i have no idea where they came from i will just think of them like kymura i feel like ive seen the name somewhere but i havent (or i just dont remember)
ive also came up with tamaki (who i named after a lm soundfile XD )
and of course my main fursona afkinz the idiotic oversized antlered tabby cat...
i usually base my characters personality off myself and their backstorys i will just try take any normal thing (such as both parents are dead) and i will twist it (quite often i will have the character such as tamaki and afkinz to be results of animal testing so they wont have parents but then theres warrior who woke up in the middle of nowhere with no idea where he  came from
