Title: Hearing colors?
Post by: aerotechway1 on May 19, 2015, 04:49:20 pm
Ok.....so....am I the only one who appears to have  synesthesia? (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pWXaPoKYHY)

Synesthesia is when your senses perceive different perceptions. Examples include hearing colors, seeing sounds, and tasting smells. It's kinda weird, but it's not uncommon for people to have synesthesia. I often associate songs with colors. For example, when I hear the song "Uptown Funk" playing, I associate the song with the colors of lime green and purple. Kinda cool, huh?

So, do your senses perceive in a different way as well?

well, it isn't all that common.
though the FH community is pretty diverse lol.

anyway, i had a friend who told me she had synesthesia in the same way you described it (translating sounds to colors) but it turned out she was lying to me because all her friends had such great talents and she ''apparently'' had none lol.

overall synesthesia is pretty cool though and I really want to know more about how it works

I actually do have synesthesia, and I do hear colors in sounds. Like when I'm listening to The City, I think of pink and green. If I'm listening to Uptown Funk I hear yellow, red, and green. I also associate numbers, months, times, lengths, words, and names with colors.

But I also see strange things, like I'll see things in the corner of my eyes that look like they're there but are actually not. Like if I worry about cats or think about cats I'll see cats in the corners of my eyes looking into my eyes. (Cats do not make eye contact with humans) I also see ghosts, mystical creatures, humans, and objects. The second I move my head though it disappears into thin air, it's really weird. And sometimes in my bed, I feel like I'm rotating in a zero gravity area where nothing is touching me at all. And sometimes, even though my body isn't moving a way I am moving it. If I imagine a movement my body will feel like it's doing it, also a very strange thing.

I only start to hear colours if my Dad puts glue in my tissues.

Oh, It's been so long since I've seen a post like this.

I actually can relate to a few things. Hearing songs with colors is the most common to me. Sometimes I feel as though I can "see" sounds when I look at a particular object. Sometimes I think I can "feel" colors, too...

Usually when I listen to music or something like that, I'll get an image of some sort in my head or even a scene. I seem to be able to taste smells a little bit, too, but that's normal since smell effects taste quite a bit even when you're not eating usually. If I were to use my tongue, however, to taste smells then I may get a bit of a result without my nose...

I'm not sure if I have it. Maybe in some cases, /maybe/, but that'd certainly be rather interesting to have that sort of experience.

I wouldn't call this thread too old...

It's not THAT old. It's from the same year.

I didn't mean it rudely, I was just pointing it out. Threads that are counted as old are the threads that are one month old in my sight, it feels like a long time to me.

Lol I don't think 2-3 weeks is one month.

On topic now, I don't think I have synethesia, but I can strangely compare specific things with colors. I think that's pretty normal though, but I guess I'm more creative with the concept.

I always associate the days of the week with colors & shape. I don't know if this is syntesia, though. It actually makes it easier to count what weekday is a specified event, for example.

Something like this:

Also when I listen to Heaven's Not Enough I always associate the music with dark blue and baby blue. A mix.

I never tasted/smelled colors or sounds though. xD

You have a common form of it. Where you associate colors with days, numbers, weeks, months, and etc. You can also hear colors in some songs but not taste or smell anything. (I've done some research)

I associate music to colors at times and I often associate sounds to music. (Forgot to put this one)

True to my forum name, I am a synesthete. I have lexical-gustatory synesthesia, which means that sounds and words evoke different tastes. Though I still hear, say, and read words and sounds the same, I can experience a "phantom taste". I also have ordinal-linguistic synesthesia, meaning that I assign colors, genders and even personalities to numbers and letters. Synesthesia is fascinating, isn't it?
