So I downloaded a map. I (am pretty sure I) moved things to where they were supposed to be. And now FH will not open.
Is there any way to either solve this issue, or else completely get rid of the map? Do I need to uninstall and reinstall FH? (Because that option is tempting right now.)
(Also, what is the limit on the number of portals you can have at the cape?)
EDIT: New issue. I can open FH and go to my other downloaded maps, but this one still isn't working.
-
EDIT: Wrong issue, posted wrong response...
Check for any extra particles in C:>FreshWater>media>particles. If there are any files with _1 or any number, delete it. FH should open then.
As for a map limit, I'm unsure on the exact number but I'm going to go with 40-ish, because at one time (tho it was long ago) I counted about 30 portals in my Cape, and some of them were floating off the island. Don't take my word for it tho XD, I could be wrong.

(Sorry, I changed the question when I found that my FH was not working. But thanks for the answer.)
I'll try that.
EDIT: Worked. Thanks! (Would never have thought of that ... things as small as particles tend to elude the "everything you know about computers" section of my brain.)
EDIT: But the map still does not work. Does anyone know how to fix it?

Problem 1: Your welcme floof! Particles tend to be the first thing I look at when my FH decides to be a butt and not start up XD.
Problem 2: Hmm...Where did you place everything exactly? Is the map just not showing up or does it crash when you enter it?
-
It crashes when I try to enter it.
-
Uh-huuh...Try redownloading the map, this time it shouldn't give you extra particles but check and see before you open the game. When placing the download's files into your FH folders, be sure to copy/paste and replace. I learned the hard way that if you don't replace things like MyRocks and MyTrees and such, they won't show up in the map at all and utterly can cause problems.
Normal I'm a tech wiz at this simple stuff when I know what to do, but there are some things I don't know how to fix, but I'll try to help best to my ability.
EDIT: My god typing replies on my phone makes my grammer look atrocious XD.
-
I re-downloaded the map and replaced everything. There were no extra particles or anything. But the map still crashes.
I'm fairly sure it's quite a large map, and/or contains portals to several other maps. Could that be the issue?
-
Sometimes large maps, or maps containing a lot of meshes and objects (or even both) can cause this to happen as well.
-
There were quite a lot of files. And while most of my map downloads only required me to drag some files into Exports, this one also required me to drag files into Particles and Textures. Those were the first things I thought of when I was having issues with it.
Are there any solutions to this?
EDIT: I'll just give you the name of the map I downloaded: Fallout (http://www.feral-heart.com/index.php?option=com_jfusion&Itemid=2&jfile=index.php&topic=39173.0).
-
Particles may be the culprit then, try it again but without putting in the particles and see what happens. If any of the particles in the map don't show, try taking them to your Exports and see if it works. This is unfamiliar territory of issues to me so I'm only guessing.

Ah, yes. I hate when this happens. When you installed the maps, did you check replace when you inserted the files into the game setup?
-
I'm not sure. Should I try re-downloading the map, but clicking replace for everything, and not adding the particles? I've just about given up on this map.
-
I don't know. It's worth a try, but I suggest you back the files up first/
-
Downloaded the map to check it out for any possible glitches, and I would not recommend it. For me it took a while to load and it is super laggy. Its not as big as it is full of meshes and objects.

Ah yes, I guess some maps sadly aren't destined to work. Although that one does have nice soundtracks. Oh well. Does anyone know how to remove the portal? Or preferably, everything that came with the map when I downloaded it?

Your best chance floof, which is what I had to do, is to go to your exports and delete everything from the download. However, leave things like Default.fho and MyTrees.fho etc, or else you'll just run in to more problems. I opened the download's export folder for the names of the items I needed to delete, and did so in my own exports folder. Often I don't worry about little things like soundtracks or textures, those aren't a big deal. If you wanted to make it easier on yourself tho, just delete Fallout.fhm from your exports and the portal will disappear, and you can worry about the other things later.

I think I'll just delete the portal for now, then delete the other stuff later. Even though the map didn't really work out in the end, thanks for the help. I would have been stuffed otherwise. :D
