Title: Heightmaps not working
Post by: EWSpirit on July 23, 2015, 12:43:29 am
I was making a map out of boredom, so I made the height map with all of the right settings, like grayscale, 513x513, all that stuff. I went into FH to test it, it worked fine, I noticed some things were wonky, so I saved and exited the game to go tweak some things. I fixed what needed fixing, went back into FH, and suddenly when I typed in the height map name I got the "feralheart has stopped working' message. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
The map looks like this:

Also, I tried re-making the map once, and that one didn't work either. I also put together a 'Test' map to see if that would work, but the same thing happened. Any help would be appreciated!

Did you flatten the layers?

Yes, I flattened them.

What exactly did you tweak when you went back to change a couple of things? If the heightmap was working before you moved things around, that's probably where the loading went wrong.

When it worked on feralheart I think you have done everything right. There are some reasons why it crashed the game:

1- Your heightmap has 2 layers. Even if you flatten them, alpha channel will be on.
2- Your Alpha Channel is on. Go to Layer > Transparency and if it says that 'Remove Alpha Channel' is available, remove it.

Here are some tips:

- Save as a flat image, do not go for Transparency/Opacity.
- Work on One layer or Merge the layers after.
- Open as a Grayscale Setting. (Not just colour as grayscale).
- Make sure you save as a .png format.
- Keep as 513x513 Pixels or try 1025x1025.
