Very interesting topic- and a helpful one, too. I've used some of the methods you've mentioned, but there are a couple that are surprisingly new to me. Another method I've used is one based on a particular quality of the character, such as a continuous habit, character trait, or some sort of clue about their life that others may or may not know about them (I think you touched on this.) I've also taken a normal, simple name and tried rhyming it- whether it does or doesn't make sense, some of the names have turned out pretty cool.

Anyways, thank you for typing this up for us. I know I have trouble sometimes thinking of new, unique names for my characters, and I'll be sure to refer to this guide if I'm ever in a tough spot again.

Oooh! Great tutorial that will help so many floofs! I was actually planning on covering this in a Character Tutorial that was going to make as soon as I go back to my dad's (I don't have FH at my mom's. Her computer died at the ripe old age of 6. :(...). Looks like you already do! Here is also a great website, which includes African names that would fit into a TLK theme!
http://www.20000-names.com/index.htm (http://www.20000-names.com/index.htm)
I use it when naming characters quite often, and it also shows the meaning of the name too. Haha, because Google translate can become quite tiring.

 +Floof for this.

Most of my characters have names that are words from different languages [said language usually being something like Swahili for lions or Greek for wolves]

I can't believe I just looked at this now, it is so creative and 'crazy' in a good way. :D I took use of this and the third method is my favorite. I usually use french names for my characters, like Mondelivre and Genevieve. Thank you for sharing! I'l give you a nuzzle, I believe this took you awhile to type. c:

Woah, thank you so much for making this tutorial! This is exactly what I need!
Naming characters can take me a while, mostly because
I am quite picky and I want something unique or not too common.
Finding a suitable name is actually really important to me
and I am also picky when it comes to how a name is spelled.
I have used a few of these methods, but most of them are new to me.
I am excited to try them out and see what names I come up with/stumble upon.
If there is one thing I need, then it is definitely more unique female names.
Again, thank you! + Nuzzle
