I made a height map following the instructions posted on FH forums. I did everything right but the game crashes every time I type in the name of the Terrain in the map maker :( Help?

Did you use the 513x513, grayscale settings, remove the Alpha Channel Lock, and save the image as a .png?

If the guide on the website wasn't sufficient enough, Red has a very good tutorial of how to make a heightmap using Photoshop or Gimp.
