Title: Male Or Female?
Post by: Preach on February 08, 2016, 01:22:24 pm
Which Gender you prefer playing as? Is it based on your gender or another gender?

Personally, I like to keep my characters female. I only have one male character but most of felines are females. I have nothing against playing as male animal but it bothers me when random females lions comes up to me and ask if I'm looking for a mate. :/ So, I prefer to play as female.

I typically use male characters, simply because I have a difficult time portraying a female character, surprisingly. I have only one gal I would actively use on my character roster.

I prefer playing females, like my gender. But sometimes when i RP or... RP is in my mind..? (No comment ;-; RP with one char in ur mind... Imma weird) I create male characters. So yes, I prefer playing female chars.

I, myself, tend to play as male characters they're being a member of tplus female gender.
Honestly, I'm not even sure as to why. I've always had male characters, probably because they're easier to portray for some reason? I do have a few female characters, but don't use them as often. Maybe since I'm already a female in the real world, RPing as one as well can get boring. (X

I play as Feminine characters, mostly because I am a girl.
I also have no clue how to work a dude character xD, All of my characters are girls

I usually play male characters for the same reason as Edol, even though I myself am female. It's weird, I just don't find my female characters all that interesting? But I definitely have a ton more males than females in my character list.

I don't understand how people are unable to roleplay certain genders, because I feel that it's not the physical aspects of a character - such as sex - that make them who and how they are, it's their mindset.
I am comfortable with playing all genders. I never have a balanced amount of genders, but I do have a lot of females and nonbinary characters at the moment. I also have a couple transgender characters and very little males. While I do try to balance it out, it never happens lmao.

I play both male and female characters. If I had to choose which gender I liked playing more, I would say male. I don't know why, I guess it's just more fun.

Heh, I was actually wondering when someone would ask this question.

I myself have both male and female characters. I remember that there was a time when I played strictly as males for like, 2 years? Around that long. But now, like I said, I have both. If I had to pick, I would probably say I like using males better. I'm just more comfortable doing so. Either that or I play as a character that's nonbinary because of how indecisive I am.

I play as a female,But i do infact have one male but i never use him.I don't really know the way of being a male so i just stay with a female.Plus all of the mares(yes i have that one male character as a Stallion.)Ask if i want to be a father or If im looking for a mate.So i stay as Female.

I prefer males, honestly. But I do have my share of females. I guess because of the fact that I'm female in RL, it's boring to constantly play as a female? I dunno. I recently adopted a couple females as OCs. But I also have my main OC, Xander, and then my lions as well.

I'm comfortable using both male and female characters. I'm not sure whether one gender intrigues me more than the other, but it really depends on the character, itself, qualities that said character inhibits, design, and history, rather than the gender. I mainly use one character, though, whom happens to be a female.

I play mostly females since I'm not good at RPing roosters, though I do have a few male dog characters. Hens don't fight as much, for one thing, so that's probably why. So I suppose you could say my characters are mostly female since I have a lot of chicken characters. :)

I typically play as female characters, but I also have a few male characters as well. I used to always play as a female when I first joined back in 2011, but through the years I've become more comfortable with playing either gender. I guess female is my go to because I am female.

Nearly males all the way. :I
Idk, something about playing a girl is just....bland to me. And it's sad because even straight or lesbian rps have gotten boring for me XD I mean I love all genders and have no problem with sexuality or anything, I'm just into more of guy stuffs. Though I do have one female....she's a cow :3 cute little thing too! I tried making a girl again but...it just turned out to be a super fabulous male lol
I guess it's cause I am a girl that I am more attracted to the male body artistically and sexuality wise, meaning straight, that I just love rping as them :3

Sorry if that got a bit in-depth O.o looks kinda weird now that I reread it...

I usually tend to roleplay as a male or a third-gender character such a Genderfluid or Agender.

Well, just because you may have "girl" in your username doens't mean you can't roleplay as a male. My username is xxhazelwingxx (I wish I can change it since this was an account given to me by someone who didn't want it) and I'm biologically a female, but I still have male characters.

I hardly roleplay female characters to be completely honest.
I tend to RP more males, but I am a female.

I have been recently trying to roleplay more females & get the hang of it more because when I first started RPing I played females, which I eventually just grew fond of roleplaying males.

Don't feel like you need to play as female because of your username dear! Many, many people who have a more feminine username play as males. If you want to, go for it!

I like to play as a male. I prefer it and I'm more comfortable with it. Though I do have one female character, Jinxx. She used to be genderless but because all of my characters are male I decided to have at least one female character, haha.

I tend to rp all the genders! : D

Actually, to me, the sex of a character doesn't really specify the personality they might have. There's no restraint to the mindsets a character might have, regardless of how they identify. I do lean towards male characters apparently, but I don't prefer rp-ing them. I honestly just took a look at my rp history and noticed this now. I have plenty of female and non-binary characters on and off FH though.

It's been quite a while since I went through all my characters and tallied up how much I have of each gender, but I'd say a lot of them are male. Truthfully, I don't know why... in fact all my females I have created for roleplaying purposes are either fairly masculine or borderline evil (except for maybe one or two of them that I can think of), otherwise I tend to get bored, and in some situations insecure. I have no real preference, but I typically find myself creating more random male characters than females.

Coin Toss On This One.
Most Of Characters , Unless It's Said In Their Bio Are Starting To Become Genderless, Unspecified, Etc.
Usually I Let The People Choose If My Character Is A Male Or A Female, Not To Be Mean, But For Curious Purposes.
Some Eyes See Different Things & I Don't Mind It, Lol.

I rp male characters mostly, even though irl I'm female. I have only one female character and I haven't even played as her once, even though I plan to at some point xD The second female character I own is my OOC, so I don't really count her. Idk why tbh, I guess it's because, as a few people have already said, males seem easier to portray, for me at least. Also, when I roleplay, I don't prefer to rp as myself, I like a range of personalities and such, and for some reason, if I rp a female it doesn't fully feel that way xD I'm weird idk :D

I tend to like male characters more. I've got nothing against roleplaying as females but there is something more appealing to me about playing as a male character... I feel like it's more challenging and interesting to portray a character of a gender that I am not.

I bend towards both. I have a friend who gave me her account because she got a new one so I used that account to play all my male chars and my original account to play my female chars.

Personalty  I think it is fun to play as my own gender but I like to have fun some time's as a gender I am not it's fun to act like a guy sometimes.

I don't think I currently have any female characters... I guess I tend to stick to males because it's more "acceptable" for males to be emotionally distant and on account of my autism I'm more that a little emotionally distant/stunted myself. I think that I may also enjoy portraying males as it allows me to engage in vicariously behavior that normally would be very difficult for me to express, for example your stereotypical male is confidant, strong and typically exhibits more "heroic" behaviors all of which are attributes far outside of my nature.

When it comes to gender and/or sexuality I myself am a physically female, gender fluid, asexual, panromantic. I guess that could also explain why I tend to play males, I mean since I do live most of my actual life as female but tend to lean towards a slightly more masculine gender identity most of the time  it would make sense that I play male characters as a method of expressing that part of who I am.
My characters gender identity and/or sexuality tends to be affected by my own shifts though I generally keep their sexuality pretty ambiguous since even though it makes sense for them to have one I don't really and it's hard for me to write one.

I guess that's that then. Maybe I ought to develop some ladies, could be fun.

My main character is a male. To be honest I think it's much more fun to play as a male, the gender I find more visually appealing (lol) and since I'm a tomboy, am in a way like.

In stories, I try to fit in females and stuff sometimes, although I usually write about males and make male characters more. I do have females, and have roleplayed them a couple of times - In fact, I roleplay my character's chicken too 8D But still, final answer is males.

I perver to play as a female Feiline, I am a female and i always have been and I tried to Rp as a male not a while ago to just try it out. But I were so horrible at it that everyone was begging me to change into female and they said that i were worse than bad.

But am I the only one who's thinking that it's weird to pretend you are a male or RP like one?

I tend to roleplay as a female, but I do have a few male characters. I love all of my characters that are developed quite dearly, and I roleplay as the males just as often as I roleplay the females. My first male character was an albino lion on my second account, ~Trixx~. I, myself, am female, so roleplaying females is a lot easier. I don't roleplay a male unless I know 100% their personality. If anything about them isn't yet clear, I will just let him sit in my characters list until I know exactly how he acts.

I don't understand how people are unable to roleplay certain genders, because I feel that it's not the physical aspects of a character - such as sex - that make them who and how they are, it's their mindset.

I really really like playing all kinds of characters with tons of variety. Binary characters and genderqueer/fluid/nonbinary characters are really cool! I don't tend to rp trans characters just because that's a little personal, but I generally rp everybody on the gender-spectrum. I kinda feel like we should open the gates a little more than just restricting it to male or female.

Actually, to me, the sex of a character doesn't really specify the personality they might have. There's no restraint to the mindsets a character might have, regardless of how they identify.

Amen to all of that. Lol.

I myself tend to be gender blind. It's hard for me to understand why people think men and women are a certain way. In reality they're not. I mean, I grew up not really understanding femininity and masculinity. I see it, and I can narrow down the stereotypes, but I don't understand why the stereotypes are associated with gender and sex. I personally hate that we even have the labels of feminine and masculine on pretty much EVERYTHING. It's basically saying this or that belongs to a specific gender and sex. Really, NOTHING DOES. It irks me so much when people say "men can't" or "women can't." No. Stop. Please. You have no idea how ridiculous society looks when you can see it from the outside. Men and women are anything and everything.

The true differences any living beings have is their physical bodies and their minds. Not one being is the same, despite that their sex can be classified as male, female, and ambiguous. Sex has nothing to do with this or that, "men can't" or "women can't", "men are" or "women are". WE JUST ARE. All of us, regardless of sex.

Gender, imo, is a made up concept, despite that I identify as gender Neutrois. But the reason I identify as Neutrois is because I consider myself gender neutral/agender/androgynous. Technically, I am just who I am. But I'm using this gender label to break the binary and gender mindset as well as gender roles.

Anyway. Now to the actual topic of the thread... I haven't really cared what gender I roleplay or write in first person as. I've done male, female, and non-binary. Cis, transgender, intersex, queer, and crossdressers. In fact, my White Crow character I made a preset for is genderless. I have quite a few of those, and all of them I relate a lot to because of their mindset on gender. Otherwise, I roleplay/write as characters because I love placing myself in their mind and personality.

Honestly though, back in high school I leaned a lot towards genderqueer and ambiguous sex characters while in the process of discovering myself (also without much knowledge of the existing non-binary genders and sexes since I grew up sheltered and heavily forced into the traditional binary, but knew that what I was expected to be wasn't right for me). I went through tons of fursonas with a variety of genders. Just last year, I finally landed myself on a physically and mentally genderless one that I love to death. I have yet to roleplay with this fursona though. Now that I'm talking about this, I actually kind of feel like digging up my old fursonas and roleplaying them just because I can.

Fyi, I'm referring to gender and sex as two separate things: sex is physical while gender is mental. Just so no one is lost after reading my post. Although I don't blame you if you're still lost after understanding that. I went a bit deep into this gender thing.

And for some reason I feel the need to add a disclaimer. I have absolutely nothing against anybody here or their gender/sex preference for roleplaying. xD Lol. I'm just stating how I feel and why I don't think roleplaying as any sex is hard. In my eyes, society is just really caught up into assuming what someone is like because of their sex. But really, anyone can be anything. I've met people who break the boundaries much like myself. And I find that many people aren't 100% comfortable being when society thinks they should be. So... Don't assume and roleplay whatever you want. There is no right way to be a male, female, or non-binary.

I need to stop typing. This post of mine keeps growing lmao.
