I'm working on a map. I made the original map in SAI, sized 1990/1990, then made it greyscale and resized it to 513/513 in GIMP and saved it as .png. But whenever I try to load it, it crashes the game.
Help?
-
You don't save it to greyscale. It should be saved as RGB I believe.
-
Hakumi, it does need to be greyscale ^^' Make sure there are no extra layers and that the alpha channel is removed
-
I meant heightmap, sorry!
-
Ooo. Sorry o.o;

There's a few things you can try to get the heightmap to work, they're very touchy.
One thing you can try is copying the image to clipboard from GIMP, (Ctrl + C) and then closing it. Press Ctrl + Shift + V to create from clipboard. Or you can do that from the menus if the hotkeys don't work:

Then right click the image layer, and flatten it.

Save over the old one, and try it ingame again.

I just now did that.
But FH froze.
I can't even close it.
Help?
-
I'm guessing it's because of the size and if it's a constant thing, then it would do that. But if it rarely does it, it's not much a problem, it just takes time.
-
The 512 size? I thought that was the regular canvas size for a heightmap.
But yeah, it freezes all the time.
-
No I meant the size of the map in-game when you go to the maker. ^^;
-
its just the default size.
-
Hmm...well I looked up some possible reasons to why it keeps freezing / crashing and here are some possibilities:
o Map is too detailed. Sometimes this could be a problem and if so, test it out. Try loading a plain and simple flat land and seeing if your map maker crashes or not.
o Maybe your computer can't handle it and there's too much going on for it to load properly.
Maybe you have to end up uninstalling and then reinstalling Feral-Heart entirely ( Making back up copies so you don't lose anything important ) and then trying again perhaps?

If the image is size 512x512, try bumping it up to 513x513.
Or vise versa.
If that doesn't work, you're free to PM it to me and I will try to get it working for you.
-
I bumped it down to 512 already; the map is detailed, but I have made much more detailed maps on the computer I'm using.
-
Aye, if it's at 512x512, up it to 513x513, since that's what the game actually looks for.
-
I got it to work now!
Thank y'all!
EDIT: the freezing problem is back.

*pops in here*
Are ye using any new objects or particles that ye 'aven't used in maps b'fore? It could very well be that the new mesh has a high-poly count or the particle is just too much f'er FH to take.
How long did the freezing stop f'er and when exactly did it start up? What were ye doing when it did start back up-if ye can r'member?
It could also be how many map files ye got on y'er map maker. If ye 'ave a lot of different versions of the same map saved, or just a bunch of miscellaneous maps saved it could be that FH is running out of space to hold all these maps.

No, It's just the terrain that's going bazonkers.
And I only have seven other maps on there, which isn't much.
The map worked for a second, but there was some really ugly, really tall unexplainable border around the whole thing (that I didn't put). I went to bump down the size, but when I went to check it out again, it froze.
-
How high is the height map? The stretching could cause some issues.
Is it just this one height map that isn't working or are there a few that aren't working correctly? M'recommendation would be to edit it in GIMP, copy visible, and paste it on a brand new canvas. Maybe since ye made it in SAI originally, it could be causing some issues.
-
I've done all of my terrains originally in SAI, and they've all worked. The height map is just the default height; it crashes as soon as I enter in the terrain name.
I've done the copy-and-paste multiple times, but it's failed each time.
-
Well maybe as a last resort or sonething since nothing is working for you. . Have you tried just doing everything in GIMP?
-
Honestly, you'll just have to fiddle with it in every way possible to get it to work. GIMP works best for this. Here are a few steps you can try.
Open it, save it as .png, then close and reopen and save as .jpg (or the other way around)
Change the Image mode from Greyscale to RGB, save, reopen, go back to Greyscale
Go from 513x513 to 512x512, then back to 513x513
Copy the image to the clipboard, paste into empty GIMP window, flatten and save
I know you've tried some of these, but sometimes you can get it to work after a few combinations of this.
You are still welcome at any time to send it to me and I can try some other tricks as well.
