Title: Problems with Modding
Post by: TheBigBadWolfy on May 30, 2016, 02:05:54 am
Howdy. I like to mod quite a bit, as a few of you may have noticed. But I've recently ran into an issue that's been a little bit of a progression blocker for a texture overhaul I've been working on. Recently, I entered Ficho to notice that the texture, magically, had changed by itself. It became an ugly, light grey, rather than the mossy, dark brown it was before.
I apologise for the lack of clear examples, but try to focus on the texture of Ficho, rather than the characters.

Ficho before, as I wanted it.

Ficho now.

I sat down to try and figure out what was wrong, and went through all the textures I had contained in my Feralheart files, and none of them matched the ugly texture on Ficho. I couldn't find anything wrong. All of the textures I wanted were installed and still are, yet Ficho still remains light grey and dull. I'm stumped. Is it possible the game is reading files outside of the FH folder (possibly in my Impressive Title files?), or the texture is corrupted?

Feedback appreciated.

Could be just that since you have done a lot of modding and maybe there was another file that's being read for ficho. If you can tell me what file it is exactly or some sort I may be able to send you over the original since I have the original textures of FH backed up on my computer. Material files and all c:

FeralHeart will only read files contained within the FeralHeart folder and all subfolders.

If you think there's a possibility that FH might be reading a stray file somewhere, a quick way to try and find it (if you have Windows, which I'm hoping you do) is to put an asterisk in the search bar and hit enter,

which will bring up ALL files in the FeralHeart folder and subfolders. Then you can right click on the results and sort by type,

and then just scroll down until you start finding jpgs and pngs, and see if anything matches that texture. Which I believe would be called CeilingTex, but it's possible it could be something else.

What emote is that on the right in the first screenshot it looks epic o-o!

If you messed with any .cfg files or codes, it may be that you might have made an error and confused the game. And this might be more of a longshot but if you've exported or even downloaded any maps recently using the textures in the screenshots it might have caused a problem elsewhere in your files. You'll have to look through as Phloxen said and see if anything comes up, and if not I'd suggest maybe switching back to defaults and starting over with modding your game, maybe you'll catch what went wrong if it happens again.

You can also try changing your rendering mode, as well ^^

Where are you looking for these textures? Within media/textures or media/terrains/textures?

@Hakumi, this is the current texture I have installed for both the ceiling and the walls of Ficho. I believe it's CeilingTex. And no need to send the original files, I have a forum page containing the entirety of the original files bookmarked, incase something like this happened.

@Phloxenfree, thank you. I tried this, but was literally unable to find anything matching the texture I'm seeing.

@NaruWolf, it is possible, I'll be sure to go through my maps and see if any are causing an issues. They shouldn't, though, since I never replace textures for map textures as it is. I have tried resetting all my textures to default, but to no avail. (it's a mix of the snarl emote and an animation from Unnuk's canine animations.)

@Kikiorylandia, thank you. I tried this, but nothing happened.

@Crusoe, yep, I am. I've also checked almost every other file in my game, and I can't find anything.

Could you have edited the material file at all? And when you downloaded the new texture, did it prompt to replace the old one? The material file would be in FeralHeart>media>objects>structures, I would be sure to double check file names and make sure they all match up. I would also do a file search within your FH folder for ceiling and see if anything else with that name besides ceilingTex comes up. That's probably about all I can think of as a solution.

It could also be that, as Hakumi had mentioned, you're game has so many mod textures that it's overloaded and is reverting itself back to defaults or reading another file somewhere.

So I decided to sit on this for a few days while I figure stuff out.

Came back, and poof.

I'm going to take a look through my entire FH files and clean them out of mods bit, but it seems like my older texture is back for now. I have a hunch that it's something in my objects files, so I'll look through and remove the issue if it's in there.

Time to get back to work on my overhaul mod.

EDIT: I found that there's a light greyish texture in my objects files called "Ceiling". It doesn't seem to be attached to any of my objects, so it just seemed like a stray file. I've deleted it, and my darker texture on Ficho remains.
Thanks for the help, guys. Feel free to lock this.

I'll go ahead and lock this since you've located the issue.
