Title: Heightmap Issues
Post by: ThatRandomTypo on June 08, 2016, 12:07:49 am
So, I downloaded a free height map (the creator explicitly said they were free as long as you would credit them) and each time I load it the terrain ends up very spiky. I've notice this happens any time I ever try to use my own height map that I created myself, and Im not sure if its because my map size (the width and whatnot) is too small or too large. Any advice?

As helpful as those are, they don't really seem to cover my issue, thanks though!

I'm thinking I'm going to have to run the images through a weak blur to sort of smooth out the scattered pixels, which I can only presume are causing my problem.

That's actually why ( if memory serves me when I first did the map ).
Just go ahead and blur out any rough edges, smoothing them out more and it'll be more 'rounded' & not spiky ^.^

You can also try to mess around with the width, length, and height of the map. Sometimes certain height-maps are more suited for maps of certain sizes or heights.
