Title: Animation Overhaul
Post by: Skullfrost on June 12, 2016, 04:11:06 pm
One thing I'd suggest for an update would be overhauling the general animations to be more realistic and just generally better looking- for example, the run. Animals don't lift all four legs at once when running.

Maybe use some animations similar to AquaChocobo's for the walk, sit, lay, etc.- of course, probably not the buttswing, headbang, and etc. replacers, though roar could use Aqua's anim or something similar.

I dunno, I think it'd be nice to have something like that- or even a mod that keeps buttswing, headbang, and etc. as-is but fixes the walk, run, and etc.

Thank you for the feedback Skulleh. We have already discussed the current animations for running etc since we can all agree that the running for example does look very odd and unnatural. The original intention of the release was to nip the most important issues first like the buttswing & headbang rump gyrating. We didn't really want to touch what was already ok even if we agree that the running looks silly. I doubt the rest of the animations would really be changed since the majority of them look perfectly fine as is (we would leave it up to users to download mods if they really wanted more variation with the sitting or laying etc).

Again though we can not promise any updates again any time soon. We would rather take things at pace with our lives and what we can handle before exciting the community too much ^^ But trust me we have considered it as an additional throw in to any future "updates".

Very nice idea fluff! I really do agree with you on this. I would honestly love to at least see Unnunk's(?) Canine running animation fitted into the game. But like Sura said, it would be better to just let everything go at their own pace seeing as the game is just entering it's 3rd day after the update.

Interesting Idea. Maybe some thing will work out in the future ^^

Yes, I like this idea! Especially the running and swimming part.

An interesting idea indeed<3 I would be on board with it for a future update, though I think we should consider enjoying the current update as it is before rushing full force into another project like so. But still a wonderful idea c:

Yeah, guys, I understand they're not gonna throw out another update so soon xD

All of my ideas are just ideas for future updates when they decide to make them- don't worry, I'm not trying to rush anything, I appreciate the current update as-is.

I just have a lot of ideas lol

*Raises paw* That running animation does need some serious work. Honestly, who made that and thought "Yes, this is great running!"?
I do hope we see new and improved running at some future time. It's all very well downloading animation mods and the like but when they alter the dancing animations too, especially seen as we can moonwalk now, it's a bit blegh.

I've already had other animations requested of me, though I'm not certain if they are going to be further update material, or just a modded option.

Users have already had a field day complaining that everything changing is "too different," and a lot of them were less than happy with the changes I've contributed (Moonwalk & Non-Gyro Headbang).
((Although I'm loving Kynvuu's current siggy! cx))

We can see how it goes, but so far my lineup is looking at Run & Jump before anything else, and seeing if the weird shift-lay is fixable. The feline. The shoulders just... collapse. xD

I digress.
The point is, you will see something from me eventually!

Honestly I think the only animations that should be redone is run, walk, and howl. the rest are nice

I would love to see Goldchocobo's (Aquachocobo's) animations become the official ones. They're really realistic (other than the spaghetti leg issue she can't fix when you sit). But I think having an option of what animations you want to use would be interesting? Have them all implemented somehow and you can choose whichever you'd like within the options/settings.

I think a lot of animators who have created animations would really appreciate the implementation of their animations - with proper thanks to the original animators of course.

Yeah that would be great, that's the animation that I have and I think it looks really nice. Not that there's anything wrong with the normal Feral Heart animation, but I just like Unuuks a bit more. xD

After discussing both my own animations and others' with numerous members of the FH community, quite a few don't like the mods and prefer the old/original way of running. Some do like mods, and some just want to keep their good old vanilla Feral Heart animations because they prefer them. Not to mention, unless you prefer it this way, all of the run cycles would be out of sync with the sound effects (which will bother people; it's happened before and it'll happen again).
I do hope you end up editing the jump though Phlox ;;

I agree the animations are a bit similar to a last-minute school essay (we've all been there) and that they should be reanimated but as it has already been said, we also need to get the update accustomed to everyone and have the hype cool down before even planning another update. cx
