Title: Having Custom Map Issues?
Post by: Dem0ncat on June 14, 2016, 06:48:19 pm
Hey there. I am having serious issues, and I've been working at this for about two and a half hours now. I've also looked at other threads, and haven't gotten a solution. So my next best bet [Which was against my will] Was to come to the forum and ask.

Alright. Let's get to business.
First of all, I AM NOT
I REPEAT
NOT
Good at coding/custom-making things.
Whether it be Feral Heart, Dragon's Den, Everquest, I can't do any of this.

I made this map. Now it's time for you to really think here.
I've got my portal in my map. All dandy. I spawn right where I should, and when I go into test, There's a disk-shaped cloud thing (Most likely representing the portal to Cape.)
When I jump at this portal, The narrow bar at the bottom right says:
fhCapeOfWorlds 7575 595 3430;177

Don't know what any of that means BUT-

My map WILL NOT appear in Cape. Nowhere.
Notta.
I have exported my file already, it appears in 'exports' as it should.

I tried placing 7575 595 3430;177 in my Gate Destination under the Objects Tab. And yes-- 'Has Portal' Is checked in my Map tab, with the coordinates of where the portal should appear on my custom map.

With or without 7575 595 3430;177 in my Gate Destination, the map will not appear anywhere in Cape of Distant Worlds.

Is there something I'm screwin' up here???
I've also tried putting the .fhm file in Terrains where- I kid you not, turned it into a Notepad file. So honestly I'm just about ready to walk away.

Also, whenever I test, the character falls through the platform. Is there something that can be done about that also??

To be truthful, I wouldn't be surprised if I broke my game or something, but thank you so much for the assistance. You don't understand how much I appreciate it.

Wow, this seems like the interesting case.
Are you sure you're placing everything in the correct places and that your files are matching up correctly? There's probably some bugs with the files and you might to do a fresh one. The files may not have exported into the game correctly.

Ah, I think ye got the gates n'portal mixed up. Gates are f'er connecting other custom maps together. There is only one portal in the map and it leads ye back to Cape. What most likely the issue is that ye 'ave y'er gate set up like the portal and the real portal is outside the map barrier waiting f'er ye to put it inside.

Also, be sure to check real carefully f'er the map portal. The new update has changed the portal appearance and has made it very translucent, so it may be hard to find. The portals will be located on the cliff-like structure, not on the bar-like mounds ye see when ye first enter.

Hope this helps. If not, let me know and I'll try to figure out what's going on in y'er map.

[Shrug] Like I said, I have no idea how any of this works.

All of the threads I've looked at said that you need a gate to connect A custom map to Cape.

I just don't know why there is no portal in Cape for me to get to the custom map.

Nope, ye just need the portal (the one that ye check off "Has Portal [ ]"). Gates aren't needed unless ye plan on making it a map pack with multiple linked maps. The portal options should be found on the first tab in the map maker. Try adding in y'er coordinates and arrival yaw info to the portal and see if that fixes y'er issue.

I'm not too great with maps, so I don't have TOO much to offer, but maybe try exporting it again, or checking the name to make sure you won't confuse it with another portal?

Seems like an awful issue and I hope it fixes good fer you.

Um, I'm not quite sure how ye managed to pull that off. Ye shouldn't 'ave been able to delete the map by adding in a portal and deleting an unnecessary gate. Actually, ye shouldn't be able to delete a map at all just by working with it in map maker. 'Twould require going into the files and manually deleting a map folder.

Can ye explain further what happened? The map is probably still there.

Thank you all for the help.

Ah, just check y'er particles folder f'er copies. What's most likely happened is that when ye exported last, it added doubles of certain particle files. This causes FH to crash. So just delete those and start it up again.

Also, did ye exit y'er game and start it up again when ye went to go check f'er the portal in Cape? This could be why ye didn't see it. Try heading to Cape and checking to see if 'tis there now that ye had to restart FH.

When I entered the map, everything was white ??

That probably wasn't the best thing to do. It now seems to me that y'er missing certain files. Ye may want to save y'er map files and object files and do a clean installation to get y'er missing textures back.

If you uninstall and reinstall the game, it gives you a default copy. You're going to have to re download all of your textures, objects, items, mods and markings you may have had.
Sorry, fluff.

Well, I fixed the game. It's not crashing anymore. I deleted the cloned Particles.

So now I have to get rid of them game again?? But keep Object and Map files?

Sorry I'm fricken dumb. I don't understand any of this.

I blame summer. It left me with hopes that I could actually accomplish something . But instead all I've managed to do was break a video game, argue with people from school, draw some sin, and watch a whole season of flapjack.

Kill me now.

I think I'll just start from scratch again.

The map is just sky and I feel stupid because I wasn't supposed to uninstall the game?
Not like I lost anything important but, still frustrating.

Had nothing to lose. lmao.

///
[Update]

Alright good news.
My map has not died.

I just spawn really fricken high in the sky.

I'm an idiot.

///
[Update again]

I didn't spawn in the sky. Just so far off the map that I was dumb enough to think there was nothing.

So back to square one.

How can I get my portal ON my map. Not out in the middle of freakin nowhere.

I wouldn't uninstall again. If I were you, I would just look at my files, make sure everything is there, and carry on. Also, redownload any textures you may have added into the game for the map.

I hope you have no further trouble, and wish you luck on your map, however.

As Enoki stated in the previous post, just tinker with the coordinates c:

No need for apologies , it happens.

If you need a break, just take one. Once you're calm just try again. Hopefully your map works out for you ~!

[screams into the void]

All I wanted to do was do an in-game test of my landing point.

Coding and files and customizing,
Not my cup of tea.

This is more frustrating than trying to make a preset.

Lol, yes 'tis indeed! But no worries, ye are doing pretty well.

To move the actual, physical portal 'round, head to the last tab and select the "Gate/Portal" option that is next to "Water" and "Objects/Mesh". This should allow ye to select the portal and drag it 'round y'er map.

Alright.
When I did that, nothing popped up, or happened.

That normal ?

If you want the default spawning portal (the one from which you come into the map from Cape of Distant Worlds) to be within the map, then simply do this:

1.) Place a random object (preferably a small one, perhaps a plant?) where you wish the arrival portal to be.
2.) Hopefully, you've seen the small rectangular box below the map-creation options?  Write down the Yaw, only.
3.) Moving on to the X, Y, and Z. Go to the object controls tab and write down the coordinates from there.
Once you have done this, go to the map tab and where it says "Has Portal:." Hopefully the box is already checked, if not, do so. Below it says "Destination Portal:" followed by the X, Y, Z coordinated plus a Arrival Yaw. Simply type in the coordinates you wrote down from before in the right boxes. The X, Y, and Z ones should fit, but the Yaw may not.
By doing this, it will not guarantee an accurate placement, but it will be better than spawning in the sky or off that map itself.

I hope I cleared the air a tad, if not, then I tried.

Cheers
