Title: Mediafire rant
Post by: Cherryheart on June 22, 2016, 03:59:27 pm
Wanna know what I don't like? MEDIAFIRE.

No offense to people who like it, but it's riddled with popups. At this point, neither uBlock or Adblock can block the popups. Mediafire literally opens up new tabs with fake blue screen sites or "anti-spyware" sites. The only good part about Mediafire is that Dropbox hits the daily GB downloaded limit before Mediafire does, so the alternate Mediafire link on threads almost always works.

I heard that the sites Mediafire opens up aren't malicious unless you click something, but I don't want to open task manager just so I can close Google Chrome (some sites don't let you close the window through clicking or Alt F4)

There are a bunch of other file sharing sites out there that are like 200 times better than Mediafire, imo.

//end of rant
(someone might have already posted this but idk)

I feel ya bro.

Dropbox > Mediafire until the end of time itself.

There is nothing I agree with more. I hate mediafire. I hate uploading mods, maps, and presets because I don't want to subject anyone to ads, but I always make sure to keep an alternate mediafire link in case someone can't use (??) dropbox. I'm glad adblock gets at least some of the ads, honestly,
Dropbox is a lot easier even though literally everyone on FH uses mediafire --- especially because there are no ads. I've never gotten the mediafire cloud thing or whatever so I wouldn't know how it works, but like, seriously..

When I have to upload an alternative to Dropbox, I'm going to try Mega. It's by the same guy who ran MegaUpload. I think it's worth a shot. Idk if it has the same popup problems as Mediafire though.

There are times where mediafire gives me issues and Dropbox seems like it's the best option but I only use that as a last resort and nothing more.
I guess since I'm used to using mediafire, I don't care much for the ads that happen to pop up, I only get about 2 ads, on on the side of the bar and possibly one on the bottom of the screen. Since it's not blocking the download button, I don't care much. Lol.
Other times there's really no ads nor popups and I just hit the download and then close the page out since I can see the download along the bottom of the page. ~

Though I've used mediafire for a longggg time and I continue to use it now, I do have to agree with you that the advertisements are very annoying. I've grown used to them though, so ads don't really bother me anymore. But Dropbox does sound like the better option.

Yea, I still use Mediafire, though the ads dont really bother me. I can see why it might annoy some others though.
I think the interweb is just getting to be an entire pop-up/ad, no matter what site you go on...there is bound to be something there to annoy you, lol.

I don't like using mediafire a lot because the pop ups annoy me sometimes. But it doesn't really bother me, but I would rather use Dropbox rather than Media fire.

I agree, but not due to the reasons of pop ups.
Mediafire on my laptop will not let me download from it hardly what so ever..
I myself prefer Dropbox, DeviantART, or Mega, but that I just my opinion.

Mediafire has never given me any trouble. I guess I'm lucky, haha!

Ah yes...Mediafire. Absolutely can't stand it. Even though I use it to upload my preset files. But the issues I have with it is that it will not download ANYTHING in the MB size area. KB sized files I can, but not MB. They just won't do it. It never comes up. Dropbox is so much better. But 90% of FH use Mediafire for mods, maps, and presets and it kinda sucks that I miss out on so much just because Mediafire is a pain in the rear. xD

They aren't popups- it's mediafire redirecting you to a different page. That's why Ublock and Adblock won't work for it. I've personally never gotten a virus through this, and I just close the tab when it comes up, but regardless, it's definitely annoying. That's why I use DeviantArt.

i agree that they're still annoying though, especially the one I had to close with task manager xD

Yup! That's why I use Dropbox (http://dropbox.com[url=http://Dropbox) ;)
Much easier and less painful!

I have never used Dropbox...May have to check it out since everyone seems to like it so well.
