Title: how do I use the Skype field for my profile?

This explains that I need to do something:
!!NOTE!! Skype must be allowed to make your status available over the web in order to work properly.

But does not explain how to do that...
I would like to know how to do that so that others can easily contact me via Skype if they want to.

I believe what this means is that you have to have your privacy settings to allow anyone to call or chat you. If I'm correct, you can mange your privacy settings through Skype by clicking the "Skype" option on the menu bar and then choosing "privacy..." and switching receive calls to anyone.
