I know I'm not the only one who's got problems with this.. I'm just tired of "Lost Connection".  :'(

Hey there, I recommend getting a tab refresher add-on/extension for your browser and setting it to refresh the log in page every 40 secs or less. This will help prevent log in related disconnections. If it doesn't work at first, lower the refresh time until it doesn't bother you anymore. =)

I have the exact same problem unfortunately. I didn't yesterday, but today it seems to be bad.
Hopefully things will be cleared up in the future.

If you're having bad lag in-game, try these helpful tips that significantly reduce it c:

1. Turn off water reflections. (Options>Video>Water Reflections) Simply un-check the box
2. Turn off  arrival names. (Options>Interface>Arrival Chat Name Types) Check "Don't Show"
3. Try closing all other tabs other than the login tab. It's not running ads or any other type of program/software that would make your computer lag badly
4. Reduce View Distance (Options>Video>View Distance) Just slide the slider all the way to the left.

Hopefully these help a bit~

If it was opt-in that'd help.

You could also try running the play game tab in a different browser. Look into what browser takes up the least amount of memory. Although, doing that might not allow you to use an adblock extension, i'm not sure depending on the browser. You might want to try Firefox, I know it has extensions.

Anyway, yes the Play Game tab has proven to be a hassle for several users, but it is a necessity. It's there for a good reason. November of 2015 there was a bad hack and the login page is preventing something like that from happening again. And from what i've heard, it is also preventing people from hacking and gaining your login information.

As Morgra said; The play game tab is a thing that is needed, Otherwise hackers could easily gain your information.
If you want to solve your losing connection problem, I suggest using a tab refresher (http://www.lazywebtools.co.uk/cycler.html); Or you can try lowering the graphics, (Water reflection, etc.)
If this pursues to happen, Try not to have any large files or videos or such open, Since it can cause the game to lag, Then follows on to crashing.

Lets all not repeat the same thing over and over again, but I will reiterate that it is definitely necessary until a better solution can be found. I am pretty sure a solution is on the staffs list and will be addressed when the time is right. Until then wie just have to deal and keep positive that our strife will be taken away shortly!!

There are a number if ways listed above that can make your life easier, take a gander at them, they won't do anything to your game to make it crash if you did.
