Title: Some parts of GUI transparent
Post by: Crusoe on January 14, 2017, 02:42:48 am
Within the game, I have an issue with certain parts of the GUI being transparent. It seems to be a common one and the solution is to switch to DirectX, however I would prefer to use OpenGL. Any other fix besides switching renderer?

Could any of the user interface texture files have been erased by accident? Have you installed any GUI mods lately?

No. Clean install. I can reinstall it however just to make sure.

This has happened to me many times, All you need to do is download a new GUI interface.
You can find them easily on DeviantArt.

I have tried this already as well. Doesn't seem to work either. I used the ONYX one.

Reinstalling has not fixed it at all. I will try the GUI that Joji has linked.

Okay. If that doesn't work, it could possibly be a graphics driver issue. A driver could either need reinstalling or replaced.

Alright. The GUI that Joji sent seems to work, however reinstalling the ONYX GUI causes the issue again. Is the real problem the texture files of the GUI?

This is not the issue. I have just reset Windows entirely a couple of hours ago and installed the latest drivers.

It's probably the files for the GUI, When was it made?
As it could be outdated and not work for the latest update for FH.

I'm not sure. Try to see if both of those mods have the same number of files. (If you have all the files in a folder you can always right click the folder then go to Properties to see the number of files) Maybe the Bubblegum one has some files that the Onyx one doesn't have and is causing problems.

ONYX was made for v1.15:

Oh, I used one of these interfaces before. If I'm correct only the Sapphire and another one works. Try going through the colours and see if they make any difference.

Saphire and ONYX so far don't work. I will try out others and see what happens.

Looks like none of them work for whatever reason. I recall on my other system they worked fine.

Hmm, Well I'm sure there's an GUI like ONYX that works, You'll just have to search for it.

Or perhaps the problem is related to how the textures are exported (resolution, RGB, etc). I will take a look really quickly

Comparing two of the same images (reminder.png) in GIMP tell me that resolution (128x128), color space (RGB) and number of pixels (16384) is the same, however the color profile seems to be different.

Gemstone GUIs have a "Default RGB working space" while Bubblegum has a color profile of "IEC 61966-2.1 Default RGB colour space - sRGB."

Could this be the issue?

Could very well be. I'm not 100% sure but maybe the different color profiles is what's causing your card to not render the textures.

I don't think the card is the problem. The issue seems to happen under OpenGL so I suspect rendering issue, but who knows.

Yeah definitely. That's what I had meant, more or less :)

Try to look through the folder and see what textures you seem to be missing when you have the GUI disappearing issue. Then maybe you can convert those trouble files into the correct color profile.

IEC is the color coding most commonly used in Europe, I'm unsure if that affects anything, but if switching the rendering mode seems to fix it, that may be all you can do. Definitely try what Morgra suggests, but I'm kinda stuck up to this point.

i suggest contacting the creator of the ONYX GUI about the issues with their mod, could be possible they missed a few things within the download

When comparing Bubblegum and ONYX folders (Not comparing the game folder), ONYX is missing:

black.jpg, cursorTex.jpg, cursorTex.png, gate.PNG, gate2.PNG, gate3.PNG, gateBlack.PNG, loadingBar.png, loadingBarMax.png, moon.PNG, skyMask.png, star.PNG, sun.PNG, sunRadiance.PNG, waterTex1.png, waterTex2.png, waves2.dds, white.jpg

The thing is, these files are not for the GUI itself. They are for things like the sun, moon, and gates.
When comparing Bubblegum to the actual game GUI, the game is missing:

cursorTex.png, loadingBar.png, loadingBarMax.png

however, these files don't seem to really do anything.

Alright. The GUI that Joji sent seems to work, however reinstalling the ONYX GUI causes the issue again. Is the real problem the texture files of the GUI?

The problem is, that this issue is also about the original GUI as well, not only ONYX. I am looking for another fix as I do not want to switch renderers at the moment.
