I got a surprise when I went to choose what character I wanted to play today! All of my characters have fur that is way too dark and noticeable! I didn't tamper with any files at all, so I have no idea what happened!
Check this out:

You see her inner ears and her toes? Her whole body used to be that lighter pink colour. But this happened to all of my characters, except for my preset.
What do I do? >_<
-
Have you noticed any other parts of the game having darker portions or just the character fur? Like any parts of the map or anything like that?
-
Let me go in game and take a look...brb!
-
It looks like the fur texture itself is dark. Ye 'aven't downloaded anything f'er FH? Perhaps a group map pack came with some optional texture files? If ye'd like, send me over the textures and I'll lighten them f'er ye?
-
Yeah that's just the files itself. Nothing is wrong with it.
If you have GIMP or any other art programs just bring up the textures in the program and click on "Colors" and then "Brightness-Contrast" then move brightness up one or two clicks [until you find suitable]. Same for the bottom if you want.

It appears it's everyone's cats are affected :/ Since I only really play felines for the most part, I could see it on every feline character I had. I'm sure this is an easy fix, but I don't know what to do. It's just really strange.

No, I haven't downloaded anything for FH in a while. I think maybe something happened to the default FH fur texture for felines? I'm not sure which folder to look in for that, or if I need to pick through any codes.

Yeah everyone's are because it's something you installed to overwrite the normal files so every cat you see will have the texture you installed. It's different for everyone on their own screen because they could have a different texture installed. They see everyone else as what they have installed.
Gotta download new feline textures if you don't like the ones you have now. :)

That sounds good! I have no idea what happened, but I'd like to turn it back to the FH default fur texture. Do you guys know where I should put the files when I get them? I'm sure I can find the textures somewhere on the forums.

I'm making a download right now.

You'll find all the default textures and stuff here!~ https://feral-heart.com/smf/index.php?topic=44252.0

As Kouvinxx said or there is the more recently updated fur texture [from when the game got updated] here

Either way the fur textures both look good. :)
-
Thank you so all so much! ^.^ <3
I'll let you know how it goes!
-
I had those files already in the media>textures files :/ and I replaced them anyway, just for the sake of it. But it still didn't work in fixing it.
-
It might be that you have more than just one set of feline textures.
Go through and delete any extra textures you have for the feline. That might be what is causing the problem.
Or do you mean lighting it up?
-
Could you have by chance had a mod that changed the feline's material file? If so, a replacement of the material files you could try just in case.

Look for the "? materials" on that page and then click the "Download Here" button next to it. You could replace just the "fmain" and "fmarkings" materials, or replace all of the materials it is up to you :)
-
Thank you! :D I'm going to try that right now! And I'll try looking through my folder for extra textures.
-
Keep us updated. ;)
-
I just looked through my entire media>textures folder, and everything appears normal. Nothing unusual in that folder. Maybe there is another folder I need to look through?
-
oh! And the long fur coat texture that is seen in the picture does not even exist in my textures folder. It's in a folder that I tucked far away in my_presets>references folder. I WAS tinkering today and had it in my preset_5 folder, but I don't think that should have done anything to my game at all.

Masks folder inside the textures folder. :)

Masks folder inside the textures folder. :)
Yup! I also looked in there. The fur texture is the normal default.
-
Hmmm can you show us [inside the Mask folder]? and then take a screenshot of the in-game fur texture you have?
Are you trying to change your textures now or lighten them up?
-
I went ahead and renamed the shade files that I suspect were causing troubles :/ The ones that are deep in my_presets>reference folder. So that the .mat file won't recognize them.
And that seemed to have fixed my problem. Why the program went looking for the feline shades in that folder instead of the textures folder, I have no idea. Perhaps it's a bug. Should I report it?

Thank you everyone for all of your help! I really, really appreciate it <3 Our community is so amazing.
Thank you, thank you <3

that's odd that it was going towards the reference folder textures instead of the normal mask folder. I would maybe just give them a heads up. But then again it's not a big issue since it has not happened before i believe and your problem is solved.
Either way I'm glad you got it fixed!
-
Hmm, so it was material files from your presets folder or fur texture files? I don't know if it'd be considered a reportable bug as this has happened once. If it happens to you again or you talk to someone who has it happen to them, then contact someone about it.
Glad you got it figured out though ^^
-
Good idea :) I'll keep my eyes open if anyone else has the same problem. I won't report it now, since it appears I was a special case.
