Title: Why do YOU make characters?
Post by: turtlies on February 18, 2017, 03:34:49 am
I've been thinking about this recently... why do YOU make characters?

What I mean is, I've seen people make characters for tons of different reasons, both inside and outside of FH! I'd like to know why most people make their own characters---is it for roleplaying them, drawing them, trading/selling them? Maybe they're just nothing but a recognizable 'mascot' for yourself? Did you make them just for writing a story? Or do you have other reasons for making your characters?

Personally, I've made most of my characters for a mix of roleplaying/drawing---I enjoy making up whole personalities and stories behind my characters, and I guess I like to sort of 'grow' with them? I'm pretty attached to most of my characters tbh, I'd never be able to sell or trade a lot of them.

What about you? I'm pretty curious to see all the different reasons for people having characters! (And this can apply to non-FH characters, too! c:)

This is a nice topic idea, floof!

I make my characters for tons of different reasons, mainly the reasons listed above. If it's a warrior cat or other fandom-based character, then most likely for roleplaying or writing reasons.
I also make characters to draw, or just to have on handy if I need them (that really doesn't make sense, but oh well).

i make characters for the sake of creation-- the exhilarating feeling knowing that hey, this character exists in their own little universe by my own hands-- whether it be a story or simple drawing, the knowing that they wouldn't be on that surface without our artistic imagination is a strange emotion.

now i'm just being philosophical

I made a lot of characters for many different reasons... RP, because I felt like it, because I could, joininng groups, random fun, etc. xD

The reason why I make certain characters vary.
Some I make to represent myself (Accailia and possibly more soon), some I make to just chill around on and some I make to roleplay with! It really just depends if I'm in the mood to do so! I try to keep only to a few characters though so it doesn't clutter.

Thanks for bringin' this topic up, floof! I'd love to see what others have to say.

There's a lot of different reasons for me making my characters. I made my two FeralHeart characters as sort of my fursonas, even if I don't really know if they are for sure. I don't really roleplay as them but they give me an appearance, or a look to be known by. My one character that could be considered an OC of mine isn't in FeralHeart but I made the character to have something to create and to mold. Making characters also gives me a lot of material to day dream about. It's always fun to imagine your character in a certain scenario and what they would do.

Great topic!

Quite a nice topic!
Personalyl, I make mine for pretty boring reasons: for a fresh roleplayer or for an avatar. In fact, most of my OCs were rejected attempts at making a new face for myself. I'm not going to ramble on too much longer, but I also like the excuse to draw animals with nice color schemes and wind up attached to them. Whoops.

Love this topic!

I make characters mainly for roleplaying, or because I'm bored and I'm curious what design my brain can develop. Typically random characters I make end up being featured in a roleplay anyways. I have one character I made as a representation of myslf, and shes just a chill character you'll see me hanging out in the grounds with. c: That's Onions.

Interesting question!
The main reason I make characters is simply just the fact that I enjoy designing them.
I like to play around with colors and markings, and come up with a suitable name.
Most of my characters are made for fun, few of them become roleplaying
characters if I am very happy about them. Those few characters get
specific personalities and perhaps a background story. I prefer to
use natural colors, mostly different shades of brown and grey.
Though wolves are my favorite, I have more feline characters in-game actually.

I make characters, like others, for the sake of creativity. I'm very picky when creating O.Cs and
Fursonas as I'd like them to have a complete and understandable, and also good appeal. For Roleplays, I'm different. 'cause I usually
just throw in some random unconstructed info and just go along with the RP story and those RP characters usually dont stick to me
and I delete them
