Title: Animated Preset Making- HELP
Post by: anitabonita on March 01, 2017, 04:22:54 am
Hello!

I am creating a preset for the very first time, I'm just about finished the head but I would really like to know how to "animate" it. I want my mane/paws and some points on my character's face to be a slow moving flame/fire that glows a little bit. But I don't know how to do it... I am currently using GIMP.

I've been told I have to put in "advanced coding" but where and how? Do I have to delete the basic/old coding and replace it with this "advanced" one? I don't even know what the advanced coding is though.

If someone experienced could explain to me how to make what I want to make, please reply to this with specific, point-form instructions for me?

I really want to have my preset animated, and have specific parts on his body to look like a slow moving fire/flame.

Thank you for reading and someone please reply soon! :)

Hello there floof.

There are multiple ways to animate a preset. Which way you choose all depends on what the animation needs to look like in the end. I recommend checking out this tutorial here: Click Here (https://feral-heart.com/smf/index.php?topic=26062.0;topicseen) It is very thorough in explaining how to create a scrolling animated effect on your preset. It also explains how to make your preset glow, which you were looking into. It isn't common to use the scrolling animated method as a fire but I have actually successfully managed to create a fire effect on a preset using the scrolling method:

There is also a method of animation known as frame animation. This might get you better results in terms of the fire look you requested. There is a helpful tutorial here: Click Here (http://5019.deviantart.com/art/Feral-Heart-Preset-Script-Tuto-199736102) You will find the frame animated presets section is #5 on the list.

If you need further help, feel free to ask any questions. Good luck on this! Hope you learn something exciting and new!

Thank you both for the help and links!  I should be able to figure it out now, but I have another question:

Where do I PUT the coding?

I know where the coding is now, it's in the material notepad for that specific preset. But there is already coding in that material for every preset.
Do I ERASE the original coding that is already there, and REPLACE it with the new coding I need to make my preset animated?

Though you can replace the original coding, I suggest to simply just
edit each line that requires a new code. That way you are certain everything is correct and
nothing is missing. Add or edit what needs to be changed [:
