Title: Computer shuts off while playing FH
Post by: KittyKylo on June 03, 2017, 02:16:51 am
This only happens on FeralHeart, no other games do this.
I have no idea why it does it, but my computer will randomly shut itself off when playing only FH, I normally have everything but my browser and FH open and everything else closed, FH runs smoothly and my computer doesn't overheat or anything
Any idea why this happens?

Have you checked the FH folder to see if there's something that looks suspicious? Maybe there's a file in there that corrupts everything and shuts it all off. I don't really know what to say to be honest, but I really want to help with this though. I've never met anybody with this problem, but I'm no computer expert.

Upon uninstalling, it stops then reinstalling it resumes.. Scanned with Malware Bytes and nothing was found.

This sounds like your computer is overheating or a hardware crash due to strain.
You won't get a lot of help on this site to be honest... I would suggest posting this on a forum designed for computer assistance since this is a very technical problem involving hardware.

I doubt it, I run much more grapicly intense games, with many more players (Like War Thunder, DOTA 2 and TF2) It only shuts down when I play FeralHeart, its NEVER done this in the past. Only started after the update.

Try a complete redownload (from the Downloads page on the site) and reinstall of the game. There could be something wrong that happened or a file became damaged somehow during the installation.

Be sure to delete your old FeralHeart folder before you reinstall.

Wow, that's really strange. :/
I'm an amateur, so the only explanation I have is that one of the drivers required to run the game might've gotten corrupted upon installation, or the program that supports the drivers can't run on your computer too well. I know that the drivers are a bit outdated and I'm guessing recently-made computers might not be able to run them correctly, thus causing a piece of your hardware to crash. Do you play similar games such as Impressive Title-based servers? Is your computer custom built?
You can try to search for error logs on your computer so you can find out what's causing your computer to shut off like this. https://www.howtogeek.com/123646/htg-explains-what-the-windows-event-viewer-is-and-how-you-can-use-it/

This sounds an awful lot like overheating and I have strong doubts it could be anything else. Though other games may be more graphically intensive, most of that graphics processing will be on the GPU so your GPU will be getting hotter in those circumstances. An overheating GPU doesn't cause your computer to shutdown, therefore it must be the CPU! FeralHeart will consume a whole CPU core + some to run a loop. It will make your CPU get a lot hotter than it should, but since this wasn't a problem before, it could be an indication that your CPU fan is going bad and may need to be replaced. Does your fan sound different than before the update? You may be able to see the RPM that it's spinning at in the BIOS, but that'll only be useful if you can find out what RPM it should normally run at.

You can use a tool like Core Temp (http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/) to monitor CPU temperatures in real-time to see when you're about to overheat if that is the case. The TjMax field usually contains the manufacturer's specified operating temperature limit, so be wary when your cores go beyond that, if they do. That (will) hopefully let you know with some certainty if overheating is the problem.

Even when the display driver crashes, Windows just reloads it without shutting down, so I think it's safe to roll that possibility out. =3

Either it as a corrupted driver FH has, (As I own an IT server that never cuts my computer off) or possibly the mods (Which are nothing but items and markings) that screw with the new FH update. Im currently testing this on two other computers in hope of figuring out the problem and no, nothing sounds like it changed besides the normal spurts of my fan spinning faster whenever I arrive in a super croweded area but this has always happened even during other gameplay.

Thing with Feral Heart, it isn't the 'best' built game. Meaning a lot of thigns could have been done to prevent lag between other characters or even objects. I have more issues with this in Feral Heart than I do in KF2 or GTA V etc. I suppose you could check around your computer, maybe see if you have control over your fan speed or if there is a cooling button. Your game might not run as good, but your PC will be cooler.

Drivers? Do you mean the rendering system plugins that come with Ogre? It can be corrupted?  0.0 I'm not sure wut that means... But I guess it's maybe not impossible that there's a hardware incompatibility. You could perhaps do some research... Google your GPU model and ogre or something, look at source code commits, bug reports etcetra. However, doesn't an IT server use Ogre 1.7? FH uses 1.7.2 so I wouldn't think there would be a huge difference. Also, I would assume that only one rendersystem would act this way then, since the two graphics APIs differ greatly in their implementation. However, the GPU shouldn't be able to cause a full system shutdown, unless Windows cannot restore it after five times (the default, anyway). Making a GPU that busy seems to only be possible on Windows XP and OSX these days though (Windows versions past that try to restore it after five seconds). If you are running Windows XP + openGL + presets, there are some, possibilities, for a busy GPU, maybe.

If the other computers show no signs like this, it's for sure your hardware though, aside from the fact that this problem seems to be rare. If you're sure it isn't heat, there are myriads of other tests one can run i.e. memtest, various benchmarks, to test for other hardware faults and stress test. =3

Does the shutdown say "Windows is shutting down..." or is it instantaneous?
