Title: Unable to get my height map to work in FH!
Post by: aquaticInsomniac on June 24, 2017, 03:53:19 am
I managed to get my alpha mask to work (yay!) but I'm unable to get the height map to properly show up. Any suggestions on what might've happened and how I can fix it?

(Note: I moved both files into the 'Terrain' folder. Maybe it could be something to do with that somehow? Or how I made the images?

Here's an image of my height map if it helps.)

If the image is a .PNG file, have you tried any other fixes for heightmap issues?

- Make sure it is sized at 513 x 513 pixels
- Make sure your heightmap is in Grayscale color mode in your image-editing software.
- Flatten the image in your image-editing software so it has one layer
- Have the Alpha Channel turned off

Nope - I haven't tried any other fixes - but thanks for the advice!

EDIT: It's still not working. I'll go check some other threads concerning this matter.

I know this is sort of an old post but just in case...

This stuff is very easy to overlook,
It's the correct size but...
1: I loaded your image up in Gimp 2.6 (Love this specific version) and it tells me it's in RGB mode, it needs to be Grayscale for it to be a heightmap in FeralHeart. (Go to Image>Mode and click Grayscale.)
and
2: There appears to be an Alpha channel present, you don't want this for a FeralHeart heightmap. (Go to Image and click Flatten Image.)
Then save!
It might also be a good idea to keep the terrain and mask in the folder of the map you want to make. (Open FH, Go to Map Maker, Enter the maps Editor and Normal name, Save, Go back to FH folders, there should now be a folder for your new map in the terrains section.)

After that, you should be able to use your heightmap when typed like so "SensitiveName.png" into the Map Makers "Terrain Height Map field".

Hope this helps someone. =)
