Title: How to create a double-layered mask?
Post by: Wolflover224 on July 24, 2017, 05:41:58 am
Again sorry for the kagillion topics I'm just having a hard time >.<
So I've seen that in the Feral Heart maps, there are areas of land where two mask layers are ontop of eachother and it looks cool. I know the mask layers are only supposed to be blue, red, and green, but how do you get them to layer on top of each other? (Eg. blue and green combine to create a cooler looking area)
Sorry if the wording is confusing!

Creating a 2nd Mask file with Red, Green and Blue as well will accomplish this. If you use transparency, this will also allow up to 6 different terrain textures for a single map.

I use gimp. Does the same thing for photoshop apply to gimp? And thank you! I'll try this soon!

Ah, right, me's forgotten that little detail. Silly, silly Vespian.
I wouldn't know, if I were to speak truth. However, even if meant for another program, a tutorial still has its uses. It's possible ye could pick something up from it. Ye'd never know unless ye were to try, yes?

However, ye can also heed Vortex's suggestion, as well. As I have said, my own input was a mere add-on.

In addition to the links Creux provided, I found that this tutorial helped me when I was learning how to do this not that long ago:

Hope this helps!

Sorry for the late reply! But I couldn't understand the tutorial as it wasn't based in gimp (which has completely different settings)!
Sorry!

GIMP and Photoshop are very similar in tools. If I remember correctly you can convert something to Black & White as described in the tutorial linked above via the filters tab. I haven't used GIMP in quite awhile so I may be wrong on its location. But other than that, you can Multiply layers just the same as Photoshop with GIMP as well.
Hopefully this helped a little.. if anything, you can always skim the GIMP tutorial section of their website for information on tools and program abilities: https://www.gimp.org/tutorials/

Adding on that today I posted a quick tutorial on another help topic for double masking that might help you a little better:
