Title: In Game Lag issues
Post by: amazzingrace on January 06, 2018, 04:55:32 pm
Hi there!
I have a laptop that is almost 4 years old or even more I think, and It wasn't the best in the first place. So, with that, I have a lot of lag issues. Is there anything that I can do to kind of make it a little bit smoother?
I've done these things so far:

-only have items and marking pack downloaded because otherwise y'all would be marshmallows xD
-have only a few presets of other people so that I can see them in game (less than 4)
-deleted all screenshots, usually I post my screenshots on Google Photos and then I delete them from FH screenshots folder
-Turned water reflection off in game

is there anything else that I can do? And, do screenshots cause my game to lag?

Hello there!

You've done a lot already, but what I can also suggest is Red's way of reducing lag, found here ;

Also, make sure your internet is good as well, this can cause your game to be laggy and not responsive if so. Feralheart takes up a lot of power on top of that so if your computer is old it may just be that.

Can also try changing your rendering system, which you can do when the game starts up in the little drop box. ^^
Do you have anti-aliasing on as well under your Options bar because if you do that may be adding to it, the higher the aliasing the sharper the edges which in return makes you lag if your computer is old.

EDIT: I do not think screenshots would make it lag but as a last resort you can try and delete or move some.

It may be the laptop itself. Usually when my computer gets hot during gameplay, it does the occasional lag as well.
You can also try turning down the view distance in-game and shadows if you can. This will limit some rendering power FH is soaking up.
The game itself is sort of a resource hog and can really soak up CPU power from your computer, which can make it laggy etc. Hopefully adjusting some of the video settings in-game can help limit or solve it for you.
Best of luck!

Were the comments down below helpful or are you still lagging? o:

Laptops, especially older ones, often have weak GPUs soldered onto the motherboard rather than a dedicated PCI graphics card. Every pixel that it has to render will add some overhead, so reducing your render resolution in the options menu should improve FPS a bit. The extra markings COULD also add a little (maybe unnoticable) overhead if your onboard GPU has little VRAM and has to constantly swap textures out.

To reduce load on the CPU, you can turn vsync on during the OGRE startup menu. It will sync FPS to your screen refresh rate and should prevent rendering 200 frames in one second and polling events for each frame (polling too much make your CPU hot and make it throttle/slow down).

Screenshots will cause FeralHeart to stop rendering frames while it's being processed and written to disc only, so just having a bunch should be a-ok.

Thank you guys very much! It is a little bit better, of course when i go to the entrance of the Grounds It’s a mess, so i don’t go there. Also, I turned of all animations that Windows 10 comes with and It’s better even though my laptop does freeze sometimes. Not that bad for now!
