I cried watching this anime. The ending was so sad that they were swimming and swimming and in the end drowned. They were dead dogs because they had a plague on them and were to be hunted by F.B.I. to end the plague. What's worst is how they got to the lab. Poor doggies. I just wannu cry remembering it. If any of you feel me please hug me because I'm afraid to watch the uncut one now for my love of dogs.
-
Except they didn't really have the plague. The authorities only claimed that they did so that nobody would help them instead of turning them in or shooting them.
The movie/book was so dang sad, though, it's my very favorite. I spent like three days making a video for it.
Plague Dogs AMV (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYXVaiyA-b8#)
I even named my first two Guinea Pigs Rowlf and Snitter.
-
That was such a nice tribute to them. And I didn't know they weren't actually plagued. I hope the people feel like total retards now. (would add a stronger word but I'm afraid of it being taken out for language.) Hero you have them the best tribute amv ever.
-
Dannnng this was so sad. I remember watching this and tearing up. xD Such a great movie.. cba to read the book. >___>;;
-
I plan to read the book. The movie made me cry just by thought.
-
I don't think it's an anime? I don't think that everything that's animated is classed as anime? No idea, really.
I watched this a couple of years ago..2008 maybe? I dunno man, it was sad to a younger me, aw. I felt bad for the labrador :'C and the JRt.
-
Just some facts
It's not an anime, but it wasn't made in America , I forget but it's something European?
If you liked this I HIGHLY recommend also seeing WaterShip Down (same author and same animation company)
The Book 'ending' isn't the same as the movie ending.
you can find out more movies like these at Creature-Features animal games/movies archive ;P *shameless advertising*

Watership Down, Scariest movie ever! )
Aww, thats really a shame!
-
I don't think watership down is. I think Felidae is. I feel bad for the cats who were used for the test. Their heads were burned from the inside.
-
Edit : oh nvm
-
D: I cried reading the book and watching the movie. They both were just so sad ;w; To this day I still cry when I force myself to watch it again. I've also watched Watership Down and Felidae. Both were sad, scary, and creepy at the same time owo
-
whats plague??
-
whats plague??
...What do you mean? Its a massive illness, that can kill thousands.
-
The dogs weren't actually plagued was what driven me nuts. They were hunted AND FOR WHAT?! For nothing.
-
Well to be fair Felidae was German I think and not made by the game studio or aurthor xD ( although its a book too.)
Felidae isn't as sad as it's just...twisted and bloody. ( even though with that animation you could swear it was a disney cartoon... but nooo you'd be very very wrong x.x )
-
very twisted and bloody. >.> Also shame on you Slycan for advertising. XD Finished Felidae and Plagued dogs. Now all that's left is Watership down.
Also who thinks Felidae is where Erin Hunter got her idea of making warriors. XD
-
Felidae, Watership Down, and Plague Dogs were all amazing imo.
I've been obsessing over Felidae lately though. xD For some reason, I've been craving the gore... (Please don't ask. I have no idea. xD)
-
I just at the end of Felidae was all "What? It's over? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!" because Felidae was my favorite. I'm glad I watched Higurashi first otherwise I wouldn't be able to stand the blood.
-
btw what are the dogs names?
-

aww for the dogs :CCC :(

I've read the book and seen the movie. It is sad and chilling at the same time. Whether or not the dogs made it to land still remains a mystery....

This is a great topic in my mind. I have both the film and novel.
Plague Dogs was an awesome bit of animation and even know it was made in 1982 anyone could still watch it and get involved, put that together with the Song "Time and Tide" you have in my mind a Masterpiece.
Although the story is set around Rowf and Snitter, my hart still stays with The Tod who helped the 2 dogs out and in the end gave his life to try to save them, that in my mind is a true friend and hero.
I have a copy of the 1977 novel written by Richard Adams, and I won't hide the fact that every time I read it I get a lump in my throat. The ending is so terribly sad.
-
I've seen Felidae, but not Plague Dogs.. o-o I'm gonna watch it now, I'll come back when I've a large opinion / thoughts on it! XD
-
Gah... having Todd die was so sad. :c Rowf and Snitter wouldn't gotten as far as they did without him, to be honest. D:
And the ending is such a great cliffhanger, they don't say if they made it or not in the movie. I still wonder if they managed... (I watched the uncut version, they don't say it in there lolol.)
-
The film was set in England in the early 80's, back when a lot of animal testing was going on. The reason that Both the Government, Army and RAF were after the 2 dogs is they thought that they are carrying Bubonic plague. That and they were killing sheep, and ate a man who fell from a hight.
Over years I have read many articles regarding if Rowf and Snitter survived or not most people believe that Snitter makes it, but Rowf with his age and fear of water doesn't and in fact he finds ... How shall I put this, heaven. However that's what others think and that's what makes it a great film ... You decide on the ending.
The only thing that I don't quite understand about the film is why they used a Geordie accent for the Tod when it is set in the Lake district.
I had to up The song "Time and Tide" for you all to enjoy as I don't think the song get the recognition it deserve.
Time & Tide (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMjQ-F14OFQ#)
Enjoy ^_^

I loved this anime (movie, anime, or whatever you call it) it was amazing. the story would be hard to follow for younger kids, but for me, I caught on pretty well. The ending was sad, I have to admit, but it was also a good ending.
-
what song is in the vid?
-
Its Called Time and Tide, Its the song for the Credits.

no not the movie the video on this thread!
-
The song I used in the video is "Mad World" by Gary Jules.
That song always reminded me of the movie so I just had to make an AMV of it XD
and I answered that like two weeks late XD

Yea I think so too because the cats look like the ones in her mangas somewhat xD

Plague Dogs! What an awesome book, but SO DEPRESSING. And here I was thinking that Watership Down was pretty dark stuff...

True, but if you think about it most Fantastic films are based on books/novels that are really sad or have a 'Dark' Plot line. For example Watership Down, The Plague Dogs and The Fox and the Hound by Daniel Mannix, I can't remember the last time I cried. But the Fox & The Hound always brings a lump to my throat.
I only wish more Films have the attention to detail that Watership Down and Plague Dogs have.
-
Always loved movies like Plague Dogs, Watership Down, Felidae (HUGE favorite of mine), Fox and the Hound, etc etc.
Wish I knew more than these that were just as dark and more mature, both in storyline and animation.
-
I finished the book about two months ago, and I love it to bits now. I've not seen the movie yet, which I plan on doing sometime soon.
