Title: Another Heightmap Crash Post
Post by: yanderecat on November 06, 2018, 07:15:51 pm
I am getting very frustrated with this. I have done the following:

removed alpha channel
flattened image
made image 513x513
made image 512x512
grayscale
16-bit and 8-bit
reinstalled FeralHeart (both from the site and from my personal backup)
checked the particle folder
changed rendering option
png to jpg to png
made the map width smaller (to 513)
use GIMP

My computer is fully capable of rendering complex maps. I can play on custom maps that contain multiple maps with no problei on of the game doesn't matter; it just crashes whenever I import it.

What in the world is the issue, considering I've done everything I've found on guides and things I thought would work? I can provide images if needed.

Hm, weird
Have you tried saving your heightmap as (MapName)Terrain.png? Make sure you also have your image saved in FeralHeart > media > terrains.
If you're still continuing to crash after doing this try copying the original image into a new GIMP file.

Forgot to mention those, but yes, I've done that too.

Edit: made a simple test map, that crashed it too.

Have you checked for any possible duplicated files as well?

Edit: If you have any other programs to create heightmaps with perhaps you should try testing out your heightmap on an alternative one?

I think it's time to start the process from scratch. Not the height map in general, but your check list.

Close gimp, close everything down so you can start again with a clearer mind and view.

Try this checklist:

Open GIMP and make a new canvas

Make sure sure your canvas is 513x513 pixels (other than 1025x1025, 513x513 only works- 512x512 is for presets)

Greyscale

White Background

8-bit (you can try 16-bit later if this works)

Open up your height map then copy and paste it into the new canvas you made

Merge all layers

Alpha Channel off

Save as a PNG file to Local Disk (C:) \\ Feral Heart \\ Media \\ Terrains

Make sure you don't save it with opacity (if I remember GIMP correctly)

Oh my god I feel so dumb. My brain couldn't see that the picture was 153 and not 513. I made the image with the right specifications and it worked. I feel so stupid for not seeing it!

I'll never let myself live this down hahaha.

Locking this as the issue has been resolved.
