I just read Tiggs recent post about the server. If the bandwith is limited by say.. map.. can't you make it where only a set amount of people can be in one map at a time, and once it's full you'll just be ported to another, random map.. that way, there won't be SO MANY people in 'default' or say at one time, and thus reduce some bandwith?

Or am I getting this all wrong?

You might be abit off here yeah.

Even if people were in different maps, the server still had to receive and send the same amount of data. A map isn't it's own server. All maps are inside the game. And the game itself will be hosted on the server.

It's abit like if you had a bottle of water and poured it into 2 glasses, and said it would be less water because of it. xD

Maybe it will be slightly more load on the server if there's alot of people at one place. But I don't think putting a limit on maps would help that much. Though I'm no expert

The way Tigg described it, it kind of sounded like "the more people in a map, the more bandwith used" ..
I probably just read it wrong, the whole glass thing you just stated.. well that makes sense too, LOL.

Ahh.. i'm sure it will get all figured out soon enough!

Yeah, I get you. And it probably lays a point in what she says.

The server probably need to work harder. I think I focused abit too much on the actual number of connected people towards the server, I think I will try to get some more information on how much the difference actually can be.

(Edit)
Arrr, ignore what I said. I was the one that was off. In this case the maps are actually a big part of the issue. What IU did wrong was that I compared it with other games.

Since FH is a big game, and it's hosted on one place only. It does make a difference. My bad. xd

E; Just merge servers. Merge the IT server with the FH one, and just see how it works out. Crank up the database memory, ect. and the protection. Honestly, I'm surprised no one thought about it. x3

If you remember they shut down the servers, due to hackers. It was the reason why they took them down in the first place, so naturally that wouldn't be a choice.

I doubt you'd want to get on Fh, and suddenly there was someone already hacking it...being as big mountain (or close enough.) causing the servers to shut down every few mintiues trying to deal with the strain, plus the over 100+ peeps already on it.

If players spread out over the maps... consider this :P

Each player needs to send their data to all the other players.

So which would use more bandwidth?
20 users in one map (20x20) = 400
or
20 users split between two maps (10x10) + (10x10) = 200

That is the right way to look at it, right?
When more people join a single map, the needed data transfer becomes exponentially higher! (1x1, 2x2, 3x3...)
Spreading out across the maps WILL help the server load.

@Bruce Andrews Gakatako (because my quote is broken o3o): It isn't possible to do that, especially if it's a normal user. And if they could it would be considered hacking. Not sure how it would work, but I disagree about a 'private server just for friends'
