Ascensia

War wages on a hidden island. Brother and sister turn on each other, friends devour one another, and unforgivable sins are committed. But how did the Summis flock of owls and the Ortus bat colony come to be such steadfast enemies?

General Plot:

Long ago, the owls and bats lived in peace; they did not fight each other. They lived in perfect harmony and balance.

Then it happened.

An owl found her eggs broken; her two half-grown hatchlings slaughtered brutally. Enraged, the mother amputated the wings off of two newborn bats. The bats, who insisted they were innocent, retaliated, and war ensued over territory, prey, and ultimately, life.

The Ortus bats still insist, to this day, that they are and always have been innocent. But what secrets do they hold in the depths of their shady roosts?

The Summis owls will not take no for an answer; they demand justice for the four hatchlings, and will stop at nothing to get it. But was it one of their own kind that killed the eggs?

General Information:

Ascensia is a FeralHeart-based Owl and Bat roleplay created by Flarefur. It is based off of The Guardians of Ga'Hoole and Silverwing. The two groups - the bat colony and the owl flock - are constantly at war with each other. If the owls catch a bat, they will most often either kill them, torture them for information, or use them as a slave. When an owl (however unlikely) is caught by a bat (often this would take several bats, more than five at any rate) they are automatically killed or brutally tortured, or, in some cases, the bats clip their wings. This prevents them from flying, and the bats then chase the owl out, setting upon them with sharp teeth and deafening screeches until they cross the border. Oh, yes, this war is far from being resolved.

Our roleplay is host to a comfortably-designed website, and exists on a stunningly beautiful and detailed map. As this map is currently a work in progress (I promise you, it's only still WIP because our mapmakers are intent are making it as lovely and detailed as possible WITHOUT lag, and so far this has been possible. Keep in mind that they cannot work 24/7. Until this temporary map is finished, we will wait on the forums or on the (albeit laggy and crappy) temporary map. We're sorry for the inconvenience.)
 Ascensia is also literate, semi-realistic, and semi-plotted; we will add new plots whenever we see fit.

Rules:

IC:

-Realistic colours only.

-No objects besides bracelets and ear feathers.

-Be literate and realistic with your roleplaying.

-Your character is not a god. You cannot dodge every attack or inflict damage through every move you make.

-No powerplaying.

-Acknowledge your character's weaknesses; if it is blind, it cannot fight as well as other members of it's species, or perhaps not at all.

-No homosexual relationships -- animals do not know that homosexuality is even a thing.

-Do not stir up unnecessary drama without a moderator or high-rank's consent.

-Bats move to another roosting ground during the winter - we won't make them hibernate for the sake of the roleplay.

-Owls are born from eggs, not a womb.

-Hatchlings and newborns are either not allowed on the ground at all or must be supervised often while away from the roosting spot - this I will leave up to their parents.

-All hatchlings and newborns must have a guardian to watch over them.

-Swearing is fine, but do not abuse it.

-Move mating into whisper if you have to do it.

-Try to avoid post-cutting.

-You may have up to four characters.

-Your character must yield to the ranks higher than it.

OOC:

-Do not be rude

-Swearing is okay, but don't abuse it.

-Be mature.

-Don't cause unneeded drama.

-Don't spam

-NEVER give out the map pass without permission from a staff member.

Character:

Damon

Sex:

Brute

Appearance:

Personality:

Damon, in the simplest terms, is mean-spirited. He's very selfish, and very clever. Despite his lean appearance, he excelled at fighting and hunting. He has a hot-headed nature and his very proud -- he will almost never apologize for something he has done, because he simply doesn't see a reason to. He's also cannibalistic; he kills and eats other dogs, mostly those he hates or doesn't know. His favourite is the blood; he'll lap it up without a care in the world, then tuck into the meat itself. He often denies himself good things because he feels that he does not deserve them. He is rebellious, blunt, rude an mocking, as well as extremely handsome in the sense of dogs.

Sample:

Damon stepped gingerly over a murky puddle, it's grungy depths far too dirty for his existential presence. His banner swished slowly in a low wag as he scented the familiar rusty tang of blood, oh-so-sweet to his sinuses. There. The building was long and squat, with crumbling brick walls and graffiti along it's sides. It looked run down and old, but he knew well what lay inside. His unusual blue eyes scanned the damp street before he bounded across, his blunt claws clicking on it's paved surface. His audials twitched as the sound of snarls, growls and barks, reached him, the hollers and cheers of the strange humans inside. He slipped through a hole in the wall, his mouth salivating as the scent of death and blood greeted him. His maw hung slightly open, revealing a pink tongue which lolled in expectancy. He was well hidden in the shadows; his dark pelt ensured it, and he was only here for the loser. He knew all too well that often the losers of these battles were cast out to die if their injuries were too serious, and he wasn't afraid to finish them off then gorge himself on these occasions. The dogs in the ring were ruthless, their jaws snapping. Damon's flews pulled back all the way in a smirking pant, his teeth wetted, a few drops of drool slipping from his tongue before he swiped it over his muzzle and lowered himself to the ground. Not long now; soon he would be able to indulge his cannibalistic cravings. He could already see one dog faltering, and his ears perked.

"Hey!"

The loud call of a man made Damon jerk out of his reverie. His eyes rolled to the side as three men advanced towards him. He let out a growl, his muzzle wrinkling as a vicious snarl let loose. He backed towards the hole and slipped out just as one leapt for him, only to run into another with a long, rusted pole and a wire that slung around his neck. He yelped and pulled back, thrashing, before lunging for the man's ankle, to no avail. The pole kept him at distance from the man. He let out a frusterated growl.

Introduction to Creating

Creating presets is not only rewarding, but also tonnes of fun! It's neat to see your completely-customizable characters come to life with their sexy presets. From uber-detailed to one-colour presets, it's amazing to see what people can come up with.

Examples:

~~~
[spoiler]
Here we have a preset for my fursona and main character, Louis. He started out as a wolf-version of Louis Tomlinson from One Direction, but I ended up becoming so fond of him that he (unbeknownst to me) became my fursona.
Louis has more of a detailed preset; the tattoos took a lot of work, from tracing to scanning to re-tracing to multiplying, over and over until I had most of Lou's tatts.
You can see from the picture that the tattoos are only on his right fore-leg and his two hind legs. This is an example of
asymmetry.
And here, we have Damon. He has a more simple preset, and a simple design. His eyes always stun anyone who downloads his preset, and I have also become quite fond of him myself.
I made him with Damon from The Vampire Diaries in mind, and you can often find him wandering Flourite or the public maps, looking for a good, short roleplay that suits him.
And this is Thrushfeather, deputy of ThunderClan in ANR~Reborn. See the assymetry? And I recycled a modified version of the Aug 22 mackeral tabby markings to use on his pelt; sexy, no?
And my last example, Adonis. His preset is simple, yet beautiful; the darker markings defining his face make for a wondrous design.
How to Start
Remember; presets don't always have to be complicated to be amazing. Most complicated presets look messy if you don't know how to make them correctly.
When creating presets, it's always wise to have a colour pallette picked out; this way you'll know what colours to use. You can work from there.
Always start with the base colour(s) when creating! These are the main colours on your character, and are essential in making good presets. Then you can go off picking out the colours for your various markings and eyes. The most important thing to have in mind is that the colours shouldn't clash.
All the colours on the palette above are neutral, except for the green eyes. Eyes are the only exception for the no-clash rule; Eyes that clash generally stand out and look big and beautiful, like light-blue on black or green on brown.
Once you've finished doing that, take a simple lineart and colour it in with your character's design. For example:
You don't have to do this, but it's easier to create a preset off of a design you can clearly see.
Now you decide if the character can be made via character creator, or via advanced preset making.
The character above would have to be made with an advanced preset system.
Scroll down to learn how to make both basic and advanced presets.
