Community Activities Hub / POLL - What is your time zone?
« on: October 03, 2022, 04:40:14 am »
Hey all,

Sometimes when community events are planned, there is some confusion about what time they're taking place.  The post might say, "Meet at 7:00 PM CT," which could end up being either too late or right in the middle of the work day depending on where most users live.  So, here's a poll to help organizers plan events around times that most people can attend!

Hey all,

I was wondering what people think of necro-ing old posts on the FeralHeart forums right now.  Normally it's a bad practice, but considering that a lot of boards haven't had a new topic or reply in a long time (and therefore there's nothing to bump to the bottom by necro-ing a months-old post), do you think it's all right to revive an old conversation in a board with nothing new happening?

Until I met Kiskur, VoiceFS and Bella!, I didn't realize just how extreme those size sliders are in the character creation. XD

(no, I'm not moving.  they're stuck under there and there's nothing you can do about it)

Request Maps / Does anyone still have The Mountains of Melandru? EDIT: Yes!
« on: September 25, 2022, 06:22:37 am »
Back when I first started using custom maps (somewhere in the late cretaceous period of the internet), the first map to ever take my breath away was Genesis199's The Mountains of Melandru and its associated map, Frostfall.  That was actually my first introduction to Skyrim music, and I was instantly hooked.

Unfortunately, the old download link doesn't seem to work anymore.  Does anyone still have this map, or a working link to it?

Other Games / Spirit of the North
« on: September 23, 2022, 06:48:52 pm »
If you've ever played the minimalist puzzle-adventure game Spirit of the North, you probably recognize my profile picture. XD It's a short but sweet experience where you play as a fox in Iceland, following the spirit of the northern lights (also a fox) as you solve puzzles and delve into the mystery of the red mist that swirls from a distant mountain.

The slightly clunky controls bothered me a bit at first, but the more I played the less of an issue it was.  Having dedicated "Bark" and "Wag tail" buttons was not something I knew I wanted, but now I wish more games had them. XD I was impressed how well the developers implemented those features in the game, with both the bark and the wag being used for puzzles and exploration.

The atmosphere is really unique!  There is no dialogue, no text at all except for the main menu and the end credits.  Everything is communicated by symbols, carvings, and the beautiful music that follows you through the game.  I do wish there were a few more songs in the game's soundtrack and that they were a little better-placed, but there were quite a few moments where the music added a lot of weight to the story.

I wish the game was longer so I could enjoy even more!  If you've played Spirit of the North, what did you think?  Are there any similar games out there, and if so, how do they compare?  Hope to hear your thoughts on this whimsical little piece of art!

Introduction / From the depths of time, I return to thee...
« on: September 21, 2022, 12:13:50 am »
After posting a bunch on the forums, I realized I haven't even said hello yet. XP

Hi everyone!  I was big into FeralHeart back in 2013 or so, and nostalgia brought me back to see the old community.  It makes me happy to see that there are still some loyal fans who are keeping this little corner of the internet lively!

I'm a gentleman of the university once again (that is to say, a college slob), so I probably won't be on much, but it's sure nice reconnecting. :)  How's everyone doing?

Characters / Sunder the Stag (or as close to a stag as I can get!)
« on: September 20, 2022, 07:39:02 am »
Behold the mighty stag!  Hulking, deadly, fearsome and--

...uh, cuddly, I guess.  But still, fear him!

Sunder was a character that came out of a role-playing campaign I was a part of this year.  He was a spirit stag that you could whistle for, and he'd appear.  The little sister of one of the other characters loved riding around on him, and eventually started calling him "Thorny" because of his antlers. XD  We didn't get to play around with him for very long, but I loved the idea of a humongous stag that can pop out of nowhere, so here he is in Feralheart!

I wanted to give him some kind of hooves, but Siamese worked best to give him that dappled coat that deer have.  Close enough, I suppose.  It's been a long time since I've made a character, and it sure took me back!

UPDATE: Congrats to TheEarthSpirit and Harleen, our two excellent racers!

Due to conflicting schedules with a few of the racers we had a small turnout, just the three of us, but we had a time of it. :) EarthSpirit finished first followed closely by Harleen.  More than the result however, it was the attitude of the two participants that impressed me, as both of them were committed to having a good time with friends while still doing their very best.

Well done to you both, and I hope you had fun!
Hopefully we'll get to see even more of the community at the next event!

of Ascension Island, restored by Kwibjo!

Sunday, October 2nd, 2-4 PM CST (3-5 PM EST)

A few days ago I found myself reminiscing about the old days of climbing up Ascension Island to reach the legendary portal that led into Sky's Rim.  Now, thanks to the efforts of a user named Kwibjo and another user named Kitterr who reuploaded them, Ascension Island and the other old maps are available to visit again!

So, for old times' sake, I'm hosting a race!  A grand and glorious race to the top of the Island to bring the community together.  Download the map and come race with us, or just sit back and watch the fun!  We'd love to have you either way.

HEADS UP: Once you install the map pack, the portal won't appear in the Cape of Distant Worlds like other custom maps.  You MUST replace the default Lonely Cave map (the ReadMe will tell you how) which will add a small rocky den on an island in the default Lonely Cave.  This den will take you to the Old Lonely Cave map.
From Old Lonely Cave, go around the outside, climb the platforms and go through the portal up above to get into Ascension Island (see reply below for pictures).

I realize it can be a hassle to download a map pack (even a good one) just for one race.
So... why not add a reward?

To those who conquer, I'll be giving out certificates of achievement!
There will be gold for first place, and a fluorite certificate for every racer after them who makes it to the top.
They aren't official FeralHeart prizes, just a small gift I made to congratulate you for finishing the race, and to thank you for investing your time into building up our community here.

Again, the plan is to gather at Ascension Island on
Sunday, October 2nd at 2:00 PM Central Time (3:00 Eastern)
Be there with your racing paws on!

The weekly meet-ups organized by TheEarthSpirit inspired me to host this fun run, so kudos to EarthSpirit!  If you have any questions, please let me know, and feel free to reply to this post if you plan on coming!
See you there!

Site/Forum Help / Can't login to old account due to symbols in name
« on: November 21, 2021, 04:33:12 am »
Hi FeralHeart,

I was going back to my oldest account -Hood- for nostalgia's sake, but I can't seem to get in because of the dashes in the name.  I know old accounts are deleted, but I tried my friend's account from the same time period that she hasn't used at all, and it worked.

Is there any way to change the account name so I can use it again?

Thanks so much!
