Transparent Wings

I realize there are no tutorials nearby, so I posted this. :3
Okay, so you got your normal code, eh?
Replace your normal equip part of your code with this! :D
Code: [Select]
material preset_#_equipMatL
{
technique
{
pass
{       alpha_rejection greater_equal 128
texture_unit
{
texture preset_#equip.png
}
}
}
}
material preset_1#_equipMatR
{
technique
{
pass
{       alpha_rejection greater_equal 128
texture_unit
{
texture preset_#equip.png
}
}
}
}
Change the # with your presets number. Paste this in the preset's code. c:
Don't forget, the image must but a .png!

Now, we're using Gimp for making the wings now. Let's just open up... let's say, go to reference and click on the wings uv. Before we do this, we go in Gimp, download here. Then, go to File>Open then go to the Local Disk, then to Feralheart, then to my_presets, then lastly into reference. Click on the wing uv, obvious where it is.
Okay, any one of the wings. Now, what do we do? c: No need to take the gray things off, we just clicky Eraser and erase the wing part. Save as preset_#equip.png and remember to place the # with your preset's number.
Let's try it out in-game. I'm using preset number two, also, I do not own the preset. :3

Yay, we're floating! :D P.S. Screw this laptop. It's a lag machine. ;-;
Anyway, hope this helped all you confused ones.~

I managed to make the wings invisible, but my character looks like a marshmallow, just white and texture-less all over.

Is there any way I can just use the normal default markings for my character, but still use the invisible wings preset? Because I really want to use this wing pack: http://www.feral-heart.com/index.php?option=com_jfusion&Itemid=2&jfile=index.php&topic=17047.0

You could look through some preset tutorials, such as ones that teach you how to put fur on your preset and stuff, and you can probably try to copy your character's markings, or use the way you do with the fur texture stuff with the marking file. Just look for it in textures really.
I'm not really sure about that. You might have to try and copy your character in the preset.
I'm not sure what you mean, sorry.

I'd have to say that the tutorial is fairly nice and easy to interpret, but you don't really need GIMP. Any program that allows for transparency will do (Paint.NET and Photoshop are two of the more common ones). You can also just open a new image that's 512x512, erase the white space, and name it preset_(number)equip.png. Just wanted to point these things out if you weren't aware. ^^'

I think I can understand, but I'm not entirely sure. You can still have invisible wings just by adding the equip code and then adding a transparent image, but you'll have to create the rest of your preset in order for it to look right. You can copy the fur texture from media>textures and all of the markings are there as well. From there you'd need to simply color your texture and copy the markings, then place them underneath the fur texture. There are plenty of tutorials floating around, too, if you don't quite comprehend what I'm getting at.

Well, for one, I never said you must have Gimp. I knew you can do this in Paint.NET and Photoshop, but I use Gimp. And I know, just showing this to beginners an easy way. :3
Also, thanks for answering that person's question for me. lol

Thank you bunches! I didn't want to ruin my character by adding big wings on his back, now Ivan get places I couldn't before by flying with wings!
