Other Games / Shootmania
« on: April 26, 2013, 07:33:29 pm »
I'm curious to know if there are any other FH-ers out there who play shootmania and would possibly like to play against me.
I have the free version currently which means I have limited but decent access to the game. I spend most (If not all) of my time in Elite mode. That's how I keep my skill high with my limited play. I hope to soon buy the  game in the next month or two so I can have access to other nice features such as new weapons like the bow and arrow etc..

It is an awesome MMPOG with lots of action, but nothing violent since you shoot in first person and there is no blood. A recent feature added to the game, since the characters are as aliens, is wall jumping which gives you the extra ability to go that much further.

PM me if you wanna play against me.

Leaving / Goodbye - sorta :( I'll be vewwy inactive from now
« on: August 24, 2012, 12:31:04 pm »
I don't know if I'll be able to type this out tomorrow, so I'll do it now.

From Sunday morning, 26 Aug, I'll be a registered soldier at the Ninja academy.. Nah just kidding ^^ I'll be in the Israeli Army.
I'll visit home (And mah laptop XD) on weekends but not sure how often and when etc etc, so I cannot promise when I'll be on FH in the game or in forums, but I will try visit from time to time just to go *Meow* at the many awesomesauce people I met here in this online community of Ferals.

I have plans for another realistic map, based on a mountain range in Africa somewhere, but I really have no idea when I'll get to work on it, or if I'll even get the chance for it... But I'll try my best. Of course, I'm not giving out any more details as some dragon might steal my idea and fly away with it.
In case you haven't heard of it or seen it, my first map, Canyon, can be seen and downloaded from This Thread
Sorry, just had to advertise my map on more time before I become Ferally-paralized.

I honestly don't know if I'll come back to FH as before after the millitary as I will be about 24 years old and if my current friends are gone then there may be no point on staying. Except I may still visit every now and then as a distraction from the real world.

Thankies to chu all for making my short stay herez an awesomesauce one XD
Specially thanks to Thierry for being such an awesome friend on here.
Also thankies to the friendly staff. Chu gaiz do an awesome job on here, no matter how many timez people say otherwise - Remember that!
Just a tip, if Red's in a bad mood, don't p** him off as I once did. Big mistake. Sorry Red...

Discussion Board / Man .vs. Predator
« on: August 23, 2012, 09:12:29 pm »
Or is it "Man .against. Predator"?

The real questions here are;     Why do people kill predators without giving them a chance?
and                                         What defines a problem animal?
  • Do we fear them?
    Do we hate/dislike them?
Did some of us suffer a bad incident(s) as a child that affected them for the rest of their life?

The animals in question is every predatory animal that is targeted by the human race for being so called 'problem animals'

In America - Wolves and Coyotes kill pets and livestock because they are constantly chased out of their home to make space for more homes for people. And people don't protect their livestock or pets.

In South Africa - Cheetahs and Leopards kill livestock in the southern regions of the country as that is suitable habitat for them. In retaliation; farmers shoot, trap (Using gin-trap or also known as bear-traps, terrible way to trap an animal as they often chew their own foot off to escape!!) and poison the animals, sometimes with a certain compound banned in America for being highly lethal and dangerous: Compound 1080 (Sodium Cyanide).

In Kenya, Tanzania and other such poorer African Countries - Lions and leopards kill livestock and on many unfortunae occasions, people as well. It is sad that people get in caught in the conflict.. If you have ever wonder what wildlife-human conflicts are, look at Tanzania for example. livestock are kept at night in "Kraals" with merely a barrier made of sticks placed together to create a make-shift fence. Most big cats can easily clear the height of those barriers and go in for an easy kill as the animals have nowhere to run. It's a fact, they literally live amongst the lions. People are attacked when traveling (Mostly at night) between work, which is mostly at a farm, and home. Even traveling by bicycle doesn't help as the lions leap out of bushes without warning. The predators even find ways to get into the peoples' homes which are generally made with natural materials like branches and hay, none of which are very strong.
Villagers sometimes retaliate by tracking and killing the lions, killing entire families. Their anger can be comprehended, they lose lives. But what are they doing about it? Are they finding ways to protect themselves or do they just keep killing lions hoping for it to stop?
The more they wait, lions will have less and less fear of humans, possibly dangerously increasing attacks as they find humans easier prey or they just want to get rid of their competition for food. How does one know if the lion killed to eat or to remove competition? If the lion attempted to eat, it was hunting out of hunger. Generally those are lions with problems of weakness such as sore/broken tooth, or other physical injuries that make it nearly impossible to go for stronger, more natural prey. If the lion hasn't attempted to eat their human victim; they may just be showing typical behaviour seen when they kill a hyena cub for example. They are just removing potential competition for territory and/or food. another reason could be they were startled as they suddenly came across a human victim that reacted with fear with triggered their natural instinct to attack.

In India - Tigers (And I believe even leopards) attack livestock, pets in urban areas and sometimes but quite rarely (Compared to Tanzania) people as well. Problem is, unlike with Tanzania and other African countries where people live literally in the wild with no real cities to keep to, people illegally squeeze in further and further a natural green island in the middle of a big city by setting up homes in a park set aside to protect the wildlife inside it.. But then when those people get attacked, they attack the authorities for not protecting them or doing something about it! I mean, really?! The smaller the area becomes, the more frequently you will come across a big cat. something you will never see in the wild as they have huge territories which now seriously overlap due to lack of natural habitat. Now you find them roaming the streets at night going for stray dogs etc.

Introduction / Le REALY late intro >.<
« on: August 17, 2012, 09:20:30 pm »
Sawubona (Hello)

Raphi-Lion Here.

Long story short; I saw a youtubez video about a map somebody made for the game and asked about it and that's how I found out about the game about 2 months ago. The lioness running around got me really interested cause, as you can see by my username, I love lions.
I love all wildlife actually, and am an avid conservation-minded person. I donate(d) to causes when I can but being jobless makes it difficult, but I try anyways to support those causes that actually care!

Now for my turn; I was born a mChunu (white boy) in South Africa 20 years ago in June.  I love all things outdoors and my best friend from SA is a SA-born Indian (They don't call SA a Rainbow Nation for nuthingz ^^) and he introduced me to fishing a few years back after taking me jet-skiing one time on a dam, fun timez. After that, I have managed to catch quite a few edibles such as Salmon and a few others.. My best catch just before I immigrated to Israel last year was a Barble (catfish) which reached my waist when held beside me (I'm avarage size, not tiny, not huge). If I remember correct, it weighed in 8kg :)) Btw, when we fish, we mostly do catch and release, unless it's to eat or to give to the locals that work on his family's farm who sometimes rely on fish-catches to feed themselves.

Oh boy, remindz meh next time not to chat at same time of writing a long post XD.. Nao I don't know what else to add. Well *Ponders*... For as long as I can remember, Lion King was my favez Disney movie. When I was still a lighty (S.African term for small/young person) I watched that movie on VHS over and over.. You know vhs, right? The old-skool tapes before DVD's came into the picture. I kinda wish they still made those kinda films rather than that modern brainwash quack that you see these days where the char's carry cellphones looking all cool and stuff.. Kinda sets a bad example. Hence why we see more and more younger generations with IPhones who have no idea what's the difference between a leopard and a cheetah (True story - sorta: I visited a pretty well managed zoo here in Israel and actually the father didn't even know that a leopard is not a cheetah *Faceglass*)

In about a week, you'll see my goodbye thread cause I'll be entering the army (Kinda excited and nervous at the same time O_,O). After the military, I hope to be able to volunteer some time back in SA for anti-poaching. over 300 Rhino killed for their horn so far, this year alone! Kinda annoying that I can't do much right now but we do what we can such as donate to worthy causes and keep in contact with the right people and build contacts like that and also build knowledge learning new things about conservation each day from keeping contact and through articles. I hope for the future to study zoology and from there start a career in wildlife conservation and preservation. One of my true hopes is to find a successful way to rewild (And eventually re-introduce to the wild) captive-bred wild-animals that are used for the horrid industry of breeding and canned-hunting. Google canned hunting or PM me if you wanna know what that is or wanna know more about it; If you PM me I'll try respond as soon and as best as I can or refer you to other sources and interesting reads on the internet such as the rescue of two lion cubs - Sassy and Jesse - Who almost died of malnutrition but were rescued on time by a kind-hearted volunteer who just volunteered at the wrong lion-facility. I don't want to place crude details on here for obvious reasons.
Yeah, I bet you can tell by now how much wildlife abuse annoys me. btw, I'm not vegetarian: I believe in hunting for food, not hunting for so called 'fun' as so many pay thousands to do. Some even go as far as claim it for medicinal purposes (Lion/Tiger bones, Rhino horn, Pangolin scales, you name it)>>> TCM is one prime example.

Ok, Imma stop there before I get into troublez lol. XD

I like love pizza and coke.
I love animals.
I love socializing with the right kind of people, but sometimes need some 'alone-time' to myself as well.
I love Extreme-sports and anything inbetween. just a random list of stuff I've done and still do: I've done a 100m gorge swing off the top of a cliff-side waterfall ^^, I've quad-biked up the Sani-pass into Lesotho, I lurv rock-climbing and anything that goes with it like slacklining, abseiling, canyoning, destroying fingers to get that route (Or demolish them trying :P ), I enjoy Mnt-Biking wherever the trail leads..
Oh boy, I better make a new line for how much I used to a still do love Hiking. Summits in Drakensberg SA I've summited so far (In my earlier years, started summiting at age of about 14 or so); Cathedral Peak 3004m (3 Times), Gatberg (Literally means hole-mountain in Afrikaans, a local language, cause there's a hole in the middle of mountain), Sterkhorn.
Fluent in English, Sorta in Hebrew and even less in Afrikaans. I speak French. I know a few words in Zulu.

Yebo, that's pretty much me in an ostrich egg-shell XD

« on: August 12, 2012, 09:52:25 pm »
I am just wondering;
Does it make any difference at all really if you upload an exported map in compressed (zip) form or not for others to download?
I'm trynna help somebody upload a map but the files together are not large so it shouldn't really make a diff, right?

Finished Maps / Canyon ~ A Natural Environment by Raphilion
« on: August 12, 2012, 10:38:15 am »
Woohoo.. I couldn't wait any longer to release this to the general public;
Canyon

For anybody interested, here's my thread on my WIP as I was still Working on Canyon

Here's a short story on the environment;
Over millions of years of weathering through wind and water, this canyon was formed into its unique shapes of 'R' and 'L' cliffs and other canyon cliffs including the few cave-dens at certain corners.(R and L are for the letters in my username RaphiLion) this canyon sees very little rain throughout most of the year; But when the rains come, they come! It rains heavily in the afternoon for about a month and then suddenly stops. Canyon hasn't seen rain for 2 months already which cause most of the ground to dry and crack, but some spots by the river have remained muddy allowing for grass to sprout and trees to revive themselves. The Raphilion river, which supports all life at Canyon flows into a lake (Not included in the map as it would take up space), not the sea.

The rains also bought the oasis at the top of the first cliffs to life. It's an awesome spot to relax, cool-off and get some much needed shade.
As you'll see, there are bones of dead animals scattered across the desert plains which should be enough of a warning to you that it's a harsh world out here away from the river.

Choose your path wisely and stick to it!

Enough with the stories, here are a few screenies to help chu decidez whether chu wanna download mah map or not.
If you do, Thankies an' enjoy XD
If not, then Imma hunt chu downz, nah just jokingz :D

I have placed all necessary instructionz in the ReadMeh.txt file.

PLEASE NOTE: My account with MediaFire is free which means the download will stay there for a limited time only *Le sigh* so if chu or someone else tries to download and it's not there, lemme know ASAP so I can reupload as soon as I can.I will be in the army next month so I will respond when I can. PM me so I can let you know when it's been reuploaded

Le Screenies;

Game Help / fhPodium??
« on: August 10, 2012, 12:13:47 pm »
Not sure this is the right place for this, but last night I trolled the fhmaps folder in terrains and found an unfamiliar named map-file..
Does that map actually exist in the game?

I tried making a portal to that map in my map and when I went through the portal, it said "Map file not found" *Le confused face*.

Thanks in advance

28
Sorry for the long subject, couldn't make it shorter XD

Well, I've noticed in  few maps where the maker has made a new portal, instead of using the standard portals, with the black material. But if you've tried that option, you'll realize you don't know which numbers to type into the Destination Position boxes. Well, I've had an Epiphany; If you walk through the standard portal while in test-mode on map-maker, you'll see a bunch of numbers appear at the bottom-right of the screen. Turns out those numbers are important!

X(7575) Y(595) Z(3430); 177Deg.
The angle's not important but the axis-position numbers are. They are the standard numbers all standard portals in custom maps use to get you back into Cape as you exit the custom-map through the portal.
So if you don't wanna use the standard portal, but rather use the one with the black material to get you back into Cape, use those numbers, or play around with them to take you to a different position in cape.

Game Help / Downloaded objects and water-textures appear white
« on: July 29, 2012, 11:49:00 pm »
Ok well, I have looked all over the forums, even in Member-made tutorials but found no answer to my unusual problem;
I recently downloaded some objects and water textures to add to my map but even after placing the folders exactly as ordered, they appear completely white.

I give some examples to help those helping me to help me :P
I downloaded a Ribs mesh with texture .png image and all but when I put it through object maker, it doesn't recognize the texture for some reason and makes it baseWhite..? btw, I got it from the FH-IT Mesh Store on Deviant art.
Another thing, i got two different water textures to change the standard OceanMat to something like CreekwaterMat (Creek style water texture) and I placed all the files in their respective folders but when I type in CreekwaterMat into the materials box for the ocean in map maker, it shows up white..

Can somebody please help me understand what is going on here. I'm desperate to finish my map before the end of August or I wont finish it O_o
I even took advice given to others to restart the game but still nothing

Le Canyon Download
Post in Finished Maps showing final screenies and a short story explaining the environment

Hi all, just thought I'd share a natural-environment map I'm busy creating. It's gonna be my first so be nice XD
It's gonna be a canyon type of environment hence the name with a river winding between high cliffs and I might add a waterfall. I've created part of the map so far and I've created a sort-of beta-version on FH for me to run around on with my char, take screenies and observe for any possible faults in the design and plan ahead. I haven't smoothed out the edges yet as it's still a WIP (Work In progress) but I at least made a mask to go with the beta just to get a feel for it.

below I'll attach some screenies of the WIP and prev Fail-versions from where I got the idea.
Watch this space for progress shots.
Oh, and I will make this one public as a celebration, for when (if) i succesfully complete this map. So please feel free to add any suggestions before it is done.
Thanks to wildcat26 for her channel's tutorials on Youtube which helped me get around the GIMP program and how to use it to make heightmaps and masks.

BTW: Any updates regarding screenies will go in this post and newer updates will be headed under different colours to make it easier for you to track updates

Little water pond at the top of the first canyon

Gulley in the middle of the 1st canyon

Awesome views :) Of course more canyons will be placed between the other river-bends

Don't fall in!

Prev version - a little beach on the edge of the map.. I plan on adding one as well to the new version

River Mouth THEN

River Mouth NOW - But I'm thinking changing the colour to a more rocky texture as a oceanic beach rather than a lake-beach doesn't g well with this environment

Chilling on my new BETA map :P

A sort of deep valley in the new canyon-mountain I added next to the first one

Drinking under the moonlight by the river -  Note: The change in river-bed texture

Newest addition to my set of cliffs.. This one is special, it's in the shape of a R - As in my username's initial. Another cliff will be shaped in an L for the Lion part in my username

Changed the river ever so slightly

Border is in the process now as it's relatively easy.. but I may change it a bit, some of the peaks are a little too sharp at the top

Are you as excited as I am? You better be :P The newest addition.. the L cliff with a huge pool at the top. There's a weird glitch where if you have ocean on and the pool goes as deep as the ocean level then you'll see the ocean near bottom of pool and if you float up slowly from under it, you wont continue raising to surface unless you raise up fast. Besides, it looks weird so I'm not gonna leave the pool as deep as I originally wanted, but it will still be very deep
BTW: I'm standing about midway, in a small pool, between where I hope to put two consecutive waterfalls, if I can get my hands on that object. If you know where I can get waterfall.object, preety pleez tell meh

Ok, I may have been inactive with regards to the map over the past weekend. But I finished the heightmap D: and now I will start placing vegetation and stuff. The look on my face when I realized that one of the waters went a bit to far :0 But it's all fixed now

Yay, I added a waterfall XD

What's this? Hmm, find out for yourself.. It's not my BEST job, but it's still a cool addition to my map

Smoothed out slopes and the river banks look SO much better than the steps they used to look like O_o I will still have to make a new Mask.png as the first version is only a rough

My trusty Ingonyama surveying the finished terrain from above

Ok, I've finally finished the two masks in order to have 4 different textures in the map :) and I'm in the process of adding objects in, like this tree for a bit of shade by the river-mouth. Not much shade, so first come first-served XD
