Can't play the game?

A little story before the actual question:
I found this game or website through Spechie and decided to try it out.

With that being said i make an account and confirm it in my gmail. Now the real question I have is:

Do i need to download to play?

Reason? I ask this because I've been trying to play the free version but all that does is show me a picture of a landscape on the bottom of my screen and then some news on the top. Thats it. I tried refreshing the page but that does nothing but change the picture. I think this game/site has potential and I really want to try it out, but I can't if nothing I do works.

And with downloading it, It just seems sketchy to me. So if I really need to download the game I rather have a admin tell me because you can't really blame me for being cautious.

Yes, you have to download the game to play. But you also need to keep this login page open while you play the actual game. The login page is there for security reasons and it keeps your account online while you’re in-game.
