Leaving / No longer coming back
« on: April 25, 2014, 06:01:16 pm »
I've decided that I'll be leaving. It's been a lot harder than I thought it would be to fit in here. I honestly feel like all I'm doing is annoying people both on the forum and inside the game. It also seems that not a lot of people are interested in projects I'm doing for the community to benefit from.

I've also decided that I'll he making my own game. I've had one in planning for a few years now, and now I think maybe I should get working on it. I was debating on using the Impressive Title source code at first, but I'll be making it from scratch.

There are a few things I'll finish up before I stop showing up here. Some art requests and private objects for other people. You won't be seeing me post anywhere new or go back in-game though. Goodbye.

Game Discussion / A Sync Pack Mod
« on: April 23, 2014, 08:26:59 am »
I just had an interesting idea to make a sort of "sync pack/mod" to try and sync everyone's items and markings. These might end up being very large files, but they would provide markings and items from all over this forum and other websites. I know there are already a few large packs for both items and markings, though, the whole point of this would be to make sure everyone sees the same thing on each others characters.

A little confused as to why a sync pack would be useful? Apparently, the way FeralHeart works their items and markings is by grabbing either of them where they are down the list and slapping it on your character. It also does the same for all the other characters who are online, but it uses your list. It does not sync at all through the server by using the name or mesh put down in the .cgf files of the stuff you put on (syncing stuff like that through the server might actually cause severe lag since there's so much variety). What it pretty much does is "Oh, you picked #15 in the list, and so you shall have #15. Including everyone else who picked #15." And everyone's #15 could be completely different; the entire order of nearly everyone's custom media is mostly likely completely different. So someone could have placed antlers on their character while you see them with wings. And they could've also put on stripe markings while you see spots. Do you get the picture now?

This sync pack would end up replacing your items.cgf and markings.cgf files to ensure they're in the same order for everyone. The only downfall would be that you will need to fix almost all of your character's markings and items you put on them after you install the pack.

I should ask you guys if there are any packs you have downloaded and link me to them so I can get as much of everyone's stuff in there as possible. It may take me a while to come out with this since there's so much media for these two things.

Anyway. I hope you guys will support me with this. I noticed a few people asking for FH to release an update to sync everything on it's own. But the problem with that is FH hasn't been updated in, from what I've heard, nearly two years, and most likely won't update anytime soon. So if you would like to help, feel free to pm me links to packs you have downloaded if you can.

Why not create a mod that will sync markings and items a different way that doesn't include changing your .cgf files? I'm not sure it's even possible to do that without the source code. And since almost no one has access to the source code and the owner of this game couldn't be bothered enough to release a new update, we'll just have to deal with the only options that will work without it.

Art Gallery / Aria's Art [Taking Requests]
« on: April 17, 2014, 07:57:33 am »
I started coming down with a cold, so I thought maybe I should give myself break from brain straining projects and relax a little. -w-; Though, I should probably give myself something to do while I wait for this cold to pass by.

So... I'll be taking art requests! OwO

Here's my gallery on Weasyl, feel free to take a look through it. I don't know if I want to strain myself too much by drawing something that would take a while to finish, so I think I'm going to limit the drawing styles that I will allow you guys to request. I'll make a list for you guys to choose from.

All you need to do let me know what style you want and show me a picture of your character. Additional details are welcome. I can do any species, including humans and fantasy creatures. Don't feel shy to ask me to draw anything that isn't a feline or canine.

Also, I'll only have two slots for now to make sure I'm not putting more on my plate than I can handle.

Game Discussion / An Attempt of Change
« on: April 14, 2014, 08:40:27 pm »
I know a lot of people don't really know me, but I think I'd like to see if I can help move a small part of the community in a better direction. I also hope I'm not offending anyone by posting this.

I personally don't like seeing people calling each other or referring to themselves as literate or illiterate. I understand now what people are trying to use the word literate for, but I think it's being misused and that there's a more friendly and appropriate word that can take it's place. As for the word illiterate, it's also being misused (a nightmare compared to literate) and has become more of a straight up insult to be thrown at other players.

I've seen this community a lot brighter than what it is now. It's an absolute shame to see a part of it slowly sinking in mud like this.

What I'd like to do is try and find new friendly terms to help people describe their own style of roleplaying. There is a much better way to do it than just using "literate" and "illiterate." We also shouldn't be judging other people's roleplay style and describe it for them. That is terribly rude and inconsiderate. Everyone roleplays differently. There is no right or wrong on how to roleplay. Roleplaying is simply "playing pretend." Some just do it more organized or polished than others, but it isn't a bad thing for someone's roleplay style to be less organized or polished. The only thing that really matters is them being able to portray their own imagination in a way that they themselves understand. They're not roleplaying for you. You're not roleplaying for them. They are doing it for themselves as you are doing it for yourself. So respect other people and how they roleplay. Please. And allow each person to speak for themselves like you would want to speak for yourself.

Now to find those friendly words. Words that are least likely to mean something negative or pretty much have no negative meaning at all. I know there has to be some out there. I'll be looking for them intently. I'd be very glad if anyone wants to help me.

Also, I'm usually a very optimistic person, and a tad bit stubborn if I might add. I don't want to hear that trying to make this change is useless. I'm going to try to do at least something no matter what anyone says. I know this place can be better. With a number of people trying to be a good example (which I know many of you are already) and also help kindly refer people to new words, I'm sure we can make a difference.

If you think this isn't the right way to go about what I'm trying to do, then by all means, present to me a better idea. I'm all ears.

I NEED YOUR HELP

I've come up with the solution that we don't necessarily need to break it random people and say "Hey, I think you should use something different instead of literate and illiterate," and let those of use who agree with this already to use the power of influence. How else do you think people suddenly started using the words literate and illiterate? Someone could have started using them thinking they were a convenient way to describing something that no one bothered to describe beforehand. Then everyone else went along with it because, well, it was convenient. We, who agree that there should be change, should try using different terms and let others observe. Show them that there is a different, easy to understand, and accurate way to describe things.

Allow me to suggest some new, simple, and understandable terms. Feel free to come up with your own and reply with it so I can put it up. Please also give feedback on the ones that are up here already.

I am hoping fellow forum users and ingame players (that includes you) will try to use these to describe what kind of style or level they want to be used in their roleplay (instead of saying literate, semi-literate, or illiterate).

Here are some terms to help you describe your roleplay style:

Novel Style
Roleplay written in a novel like fashion.
Example: "Stay behind me." She whispered, looking to the young one behind her before she peeked around the edge of the boulder. Strange voices were heard in the direction that the two needed to head. She pressed the side of her body against the large rock and strained to make out what they were saying.

Free Form
No specific format, just go at it.

And here are a few great term to help you describe the level you might want your roleplay to be:

Simple
Short and straightforward.
Example: He lapped up the cold water.

Moderate
A few good length sentences and slightly descriptive.
Example: None yet

Advanced
About a paragraph and a good amount of description.
(A small tip: There is such thing as being too descriptive. Too much description can bore the reader.)
Example: None yet

Game Discussion / Needing a Small Favor
« on: April 11, 2014, 06:00:00 am »
I've been working on a gui layout and need to see if the small reminder thing that appear above the Friends or Party (saying you have a request) is in alignment.

I tried going to several areas ingame where people were talking ooc and simply saying I needed a favor for testing my gui every now and then to see if someone would reply. Like usual, I was completely ignored... Guess I just have bad luck. So, I gave up on trying to seek help ingame and decided I should just ask on the forum for anything I need.

Here's a little sneak peek of my gui (I'll be releasing it when it's finished):

What I need is for someone to send me a friend request. I would ask for party request too, but we'd both have to be online for that, I'm guessing. I'll try to see if someone would be willing to help me with that one while ingame... Anyway. My ingame username is killerlepord. I'll decline the friend request if you say to.

A helping hand would be greatly appreciated.

Also, please let me know what you think of my gui so far. I want to make sure people would even like it enough to download and use it. Otherwise, it would kind of be useless to put it up...

Game Help / Random Item on Other Players
« on: April 11, 2014, 02:05:35 am »
Maybe it is an issue, maybe it isn't. What I'm mostly curious about is how seeing other people's equipped items works. If someone knows the exact details, do tell.

Okay. So what's going on is that I'm seeing one of my items on another player that I haven't released yet. Nobody has this mesh but me. I whispered this person asking them if they had any equipped items. Turns out that they have two items equipped on their character, but none of them shared the same information in the items.cfg. There was one thing that came close but not quite, unless one of us miscounted. One of their items were at 15 in line inside their list, while the item I see on them is 16 for mine. I went into my items.cfg and swapped the 16th item with another one that I have. I logged back in and the item I swapped it with is now the item I see on their character.

Here's an image to help explain:

Personally, I have come to the conclusion that items aren't shown on the character by matching the information (such as the item name between [ and ] or the mesh file name), but rather shown by where the item is in the list. This kind of sucks, in my opinion. I wont be able to see what other people have on their characters unless I place the item exactly in the same spot as they did inside my items.cfg file.

If what I just explained is how this thing works, then maybe consider changing it? Perhaps the thought of custom items weren't in mind when coding this? Either way, it would be great to get this fixed.

Game Discussion / Feeling a Little Out of Place Here
« on: April 06, 2014, 01:12:46 am »
I've just recently been getting back into FH. It's been a while, maybe a year or two, since I was last active on here. I noticed there's a lot more roleplaying now. Whenever I'm ingame, that's pretty much all it is. I remember there being a few areas where people would just chill out chat instead of roleplay, but now there's almost no OOC chatting anywhere. The other day when I got on, it kind of bothered me that no body would reply to me at all, even when the maps were packed with people.

I was trying to ask a few questions for input on how many people would be interested in this or that for character customization. I did have one person reply to me after a long while, but I feel like their reply kind of struck me down in a way and pretty much said "what you're making is useless because someone already made that." They were trying to be nice when they gave me their comment, at least. What they said just happened to really bothered me regardless of their attempt to be kind.

Anyway. It's been a long time. I feel like all this game is now is roleplaying. I'm not much of a roleplayer because I feel like my form of roleplaying isn't good enough, so to speak, and I'm also very shy. Upon mentioning that I don't roleplay ingame, I've been noticing posts around the forum naming groups of people "noobs" and "illiterates," labels I'm guessing that are being placed on those who don't roleplay (please correct me if I'm wrong). Well, I don't roleplay, and for my own reasons. I'd rather create things for other players to enjoy and help give them a better experience. Seeing these labels makes me think I'm being looked down upon ingame because I'm not roleplaying and trying to talk OOC.

Is there no place for people like me who just want to talk to others ingame or ask active players what they would like to have as far as objects, items, maps, and textures to enhance their roleplaying experience?

Btw, I also think the word illiterate, which is now apparently a label to be slapped on other players round FH like a sticker, is very much being used incorrectly... Please look up the definition of that word if you are confused about what I'm trying to say. I believe the word "non-roleplayer" would suffice for those who don't roleplay.

Game Help / Material Coding Help [SOLVED]
« on: April 05, 2014, 10:24:08 pm »
I don't know if this is the right place to post this. I apologize if I got the wrong board.

I've been having issues trying to get the effect I want with one of my materials for a mesh I made. I'm doing a reflective shine on the eyes that works just fine, but when I try to make it transparent to see the actual eye underneath, it goes all..weird. The only thing you can see through the eye shine mesh part is the ground and the sky. I feel like it has something to do with texture layering, but I really have no idea.

Here's an image to help you see what's going on.

Game Help / Graphic Issues [SOLVED]
« on: April 02, 2014, 07:33:30 pm »
I just downloaded the game onto my laptop. It appears to work just fine until I get past the login screen. I can't see anything at all besides the interface and my character. I've already tried switching between DirectX and OpenGL, there wasn't really any difference. I have no idea what to do in order to fix this. Here's some images if that helps.

Forum Suggestions & Ideas / New Board Suggestion? - Mesh Requests
« on: September 19, 2012, 05:48:31 pm »
It would be really nice if we could separate the mesh request topics from the others that are creating meshes. Sometimes it's really hard to tell who is making them and who isn't because of the topic titles people come up with... There's also a whole ton of pages that I honestly wouldn't want to take the time to look through. Though, all of those pages could be burying a topic with some amazing meshes and object that are available for people to download.

Anyway. I hope you guys look into something like this for the forum. It would be very helpful.

(I hope I'm not double posting this or anything, btw. I mentioned in my last one that was misplaced that I would like to delete it for placing it incorrectly and I no longer see it anywhere. So I believe it was deleted by a mod. Thanks for helping.)
