Game Discussion / Re: Rants: Boring Bios
« on: August 13, 2013, 01:05:38 am »
Totally agree with everyone here.
Most of my characters are realistic animals(or I suppose semi-realistic, since I let them talk out loud), and I've had very few demon or godlike characters at all on FH. One example that comes to mind however is my character Kingotsu. Now mind you, I wrote this backstory when I was eleven.

He was born an ordinary domestic cat, living in ancient Japan. One day on his normal rounds about the fields and forests, he was interrupted by a demon in canine form. This demon turned him somehow(I originally said that Kingotsu was bitten, but now I'd like to come up with something better), and he also became a demon. Now, since the demon that turned him was in canine form, Kingotsu now also looks more canine than feline. However, despite his fearsome appearance he is still afraid of water, and can't resist the sound of food being opened. In terms of powers, all he inherited was above-average speed, strength, and a general awareness of the paranormal. That's it. No world-ending powers, unrealistically amazing fighting abilities, or immortality. He is very much able to be killed or defeated.

Although obviously, overpowered bios do annoy me, I try to just stay out of those characters' way and hope that their creators' skills will improve over time.

News Archives / Re: RIP General
« on: August 01, 2013, 01:16:45 am »
I haven't gone on FH in a good two weeks because of this. I used to look forward to my RPs, talking to my friends, meeting new ones, goofing off OOC, all that good stuff. But now? After watching what happened in-game in the weeks after this change, I just lost the inspiration to come back and try. It feels like FH is some sick animal, dragging itself along in a desperate attempt to keep alive. And it's not doing very well. If General doesn't come back soon, I may give up altogether. It was the best way to find and advertise for RPs, a wonderful place to meet new people and discuss the random topics of the day. Without it, it feels dead. Even though I hadn't been joining as many RPs as I used to before this, General still kept the spirit of FH going and gave it a lively atmosphere. What's the point of coming on just to spend hours in silence?

Game Discussion / Re: Your first character
« on: July 18, 2013, 09:59:32 pm »
My first character, I believe, was a little wolf called Roxy. She was the typical character you'd expect a FH newbie to make. Pure black pelt, dark purple swirl markings, and purple eyecover mane. I liked her quite a lot, and had some good times on her, even managing to join TEC on my second day purely by chance. I deleted her fairly soon however, which I rather regret now, I'm curious to go back and take a good look at her. Not a life-changing or enduring character like some of the ones other people might have made, but she was a good enough starting point for me.

Could just be me with my sensitive eyes, but the worst offenders of sparklyness really do hurt a little. Especially when they're suddenly all up in your grill, like if you're a pup at the AC and you accidentally look in the host character's direction. I don't have anything against a character simply because of their colours, I mean it's up to the player who made it, not me.
Though you can't deny, the "sparkledog" or "glittercat" look is the go-to for most people up for a spot of trolling. This has created the stereotype we are so familiar with today. As for characters who only have a little sparkle as an accent, I suppose those snubbing them simply assume they are less "literate" or a worse roleplayer because their look isn't perfectly realistic. An unfair judgement in most cases, though I must admit it's occasionally accurate. Nothing like having a "semi-lit" member covered in blue swirls barge into your "literate", realistic roleplay halfway through.
But of course, judging a character purely on appearance alone isn't a good thing. Some people whose character designs I initially sniffed at turned out to be lovely people, and better roleplayers than me. All we can do is observe and give others a chance I suppose, and try to make educated decisions.

Game Discussion / Re: Rp intruders and claimers?
« on: July 13, 2013, 10:44:45 am »
I got into a spontaneous little RP when a few other wolves and I were all in the same cave. It was pleasant, we talked about our characters' pasts and we helped someone who was feeling sad. So eventually it was just me and a pup left, talking about the pup's inevitably tragic backstory.
Suddenly this pair of lions comes in and stands fairly near us. For several minutes they just milled about us awkwardly, not saying a word. Then one of them whispers me.

Lion: "this is my house go away now!"
Me: "Sorry honey, this is a public map. Nobody owns any space on it. Please stop claiming, it's against the rules."

The lion and their friend ran out of the cave, and in another few minutes the lion returned alone. They stood right next to me, stayed silent for another awkward length of time, and then whispered me again with one rather insulting word. They then promptly ran away, as though that meant I couldn't whisper them back. So I told them I was off to report their language and behaviour, I did, and thought that was that. Silly Ax, it's never that simple with those people.
The lion came back yet again and started whispering gibberish to me, eventually claiming that I liked them. Logic, they have it. Eventually the pup went offline, and I switched to a different account to get away from the foolish claimer. And I lol'd.

Game Discussion / Re: Things against Demon Chars?
« on: July 11, 2013, 11:41:51 pm »
Demon characters, like any other mythical breed, are fine with me on the whole. But of course, as others have said, when they take their powers to a ridiculous level or go around murdering people who did not consent to RP with them, that's the bit I have a problem with. I have maybe three demon characters at the most, and the main one I use has very limited powers. It might just be me, but whenever I make a character of a mythical species, while writing their bio I make very sure to give them weaknesses and limitations, the last thing I want is someone accusing me of powerplaying.
But in general, demon characters are just another type for players to express their creativity through.

Just a quick suggestion, I think the infected people should have something in their name or a specific marking indicating that they are infected.

This is a good idea. I think what may make it that extra bit more challenging, along with having a thick jungle map, would be turning off all nametags. The infected would have one specific marking, and that would be all you had to tell if you should run or not. ;D could make it too hard depending on the map, but since you can see nametags through objects it would make more sense if you're trying to hide in dense bushes.
