If the terrain file is the only problem, I don't think you'll likely have to redo the entire map... Have you been messing with any of the FH files in the meantime? It could have been moved or renamed by mistake. If it's still where it should be you might be able to try opening it in Gimp or Photoshop and re-saving it.
Good luck!

Although I'm not a map maker here are some tips:
- Make sure that the terrain mask and cfg have the same name when you try to load them in and make sure you're typing the name in right from how it is on the actual file
- Make sure the file is saved as png. (I believe it should be png).
- Make sure you saved those files in the Terrain folder and that they weren't lost, misplaced, or replaced else where.
If I find anymore helpful info or possible fixes I'll post here...
Goodluck and I hope you'll be able to find a fix. I'm sorry I can't give you more specific advice

As LordSuragaha said and yes it should be png. and the terrain should be cfg. but make sure it is in the right files or try re-saving.

This same thing happens to me quite a lot actually.
Trying to load old terrains and FH is just like "LOLNOPE."
I, unfortunately, do not know the actual cause. All I can say is that FH is derp.
There is a fix though.
Let's pretend that terrain.cfg files can break. (which may or may not be possible and the cause)
We are going to basically duplicate every file of the map, but let FH create a new terrain.cfg for us.

Here's how this works.
Go into FH and Mapmaker
Load the heightmap and mask for this map, and get all the settings back to how they should be, like the width, height, terrain textures.
Save the map as a similar name to the original, but do NOT give it the same name.
Now you may close FH.
Go to your terrains folder (C:\FeralHeart\media\terrains)
and open your new map's folder.
In another window, open the old map's folder.
Here, we are only looking at the Gates.cfg, the Objects.cfg and the Water.cfg. Don't even touch the Terrain.cfg, or the Materials.
Open the old map's Gates.cfg file.
If there are any contents, paste them into the new version's Gates.cfg.
Repeat that process for the Objects.cfg and the Water.cfg.
Save and close those files.
Now when you go back to mapmaker and load the new map, it should look like the old one.

If you get confused or it does not work for you, feel free to send me the files via PM and I will try to get it working again for you. c:

Well there's your problem. xD

There should be lots of other files in there.
They have been moved or deleted.
Check your recycle bin?

I had exactly your problem before, and maybe there is a solution.

Probably he used the System restore option on the computer, who teorically does not move user files.
But, windows thinks the .cfg files are system files, so when you restore the system with that ugly option, your map files gets "deleted" (but in fact they are moved in to C:\System Volume Information\)

More information about the system restore option:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features/system-restore

=Option 1 (easy but you don't know if will work):
-Back-up your FeralHeart outside of your computer, for example, in a USB drive or memory. (do it, since you can lost other maps)
-Go to the system recovery option (click here for more info)
-Then restore your system to a date when your map was alive.
-Check if your map exist on feralheart, If you did not found your map, try to restore to another date.
-Once your found your map (you will see all the .cfg files are there), back-up your map outside of your computer (USB drive).
-optional: if it is necesary, restore your computer to the actual date.
-Put all your maps and stuff back in to your computer, and should be fine.

=Option 2 (for computer hackers if you can do it):
Try this, but since i use windows XP, the options may be a little different.
First be sure you can see hiden files and system folders and file extensions.
-If you can have access to C:\System Volume Information\ you will find folders like RP<insert number here>, search for all the cfg files inside, you will find cfg files with leters and numbers as name (windows renamed them), open then in notepad to check if they are your map files.

-Note probably you will find many times the same cfg file, there are a copy for each time the system saved a copy.
-Once you found your files, is time to place them correctly in FeralHeart and to rename them with the correct name.
