I guess it depends on how bad you want to play it. You can play it free, to get a feel of it, and see if runs well.

Kinda like most games I guess unless you wanna get further into the game like is World of Warcraft so you can get higher levels and stuff

Hmm... I guess that you need money to be on highest levels. Maybe it's like with Animal Jam?
By the way , there are members of Antilia that are playing for free. They hasn't got Kickstarter. On forum of that game there if they're doing it on Kickstarter they have a something like symbol (brown , golden or silver) when they did pay. On Animal Jam you can play for free.
