A guide for making a preset with markings?

 So i've seen a preset with only markings and i wanted to try but i don't know how to do this in gimp, is a guide for this?

This link may help you. Make sure you aren't using markings that were made by other users as it is considered art theft. Presets are encouraged to be totally original!

Make sure you're getting the creator of the marking's permission first.

Make sure you lock the transparency of the layer with the marking on it, paint it the color of the pelt, then make a new layer and put it under your marking layer. Then paint this one with the color you want for the marking.

well the problem is that i want to make the preset mixed with more markings like this https://www.deviantart.com/ge33850/art/Free-Preset-698954812  and i don't know how to draw only where is transparent

The way i've done it is:
1) open the marking and use the "lock" option where the color you use will paint only the BLACK
2) make a layer UNDER that layer and color in where the marking is, this should color the marking for the preset
this saves you having to manually try and replicate it with the drawing tools by going around it to make a new marking look the same when you can keep the exact one
