Flashing red icons?

I don't really need help on this topic, but I would just like to know why.
Just a few minutes ago I was being bored and watching one of my friends on the map (yellow dot icon thingy)
and then out of the blue, the yellow dot flashed red a few times. This happened a few years back as well.
Does anybody know why this happened? >~<

Could've been caused by you pressing the find button.
Normally it flashes on the map.
