'Florith' Faerie Dragons
« on: September 02, 2013, 01:53:06 am »
Okay, well I've decided to make a little subspecies of a subspecies of dragons. Tell me what you think, possibly ask me for more details or rewording if it doesn't make sense.
-=-=-=-=<?>=-=-=-=-
Habitat?
The 'Florith' subspecies of Faerie Dragons thrives wherever flowers grow, as suggested by their name being based off of the word 'Flora'.
~{<?>}~
Appearance? [In an RP sense]
Floriths are small dragons, at adult hood they are only the size of an adult house cat! They have scales that are the color of flower petals, usually the the color is shared by native flowers of the area they resided in as an egg. Speaking of a Florith Faerie's egg, it's usually a pearly white, and easily mistaken for a chicken's egg due to its size. They are usually deposited near clusters of weeds, under and or in shrubberies [bushes], or in nests, like birds. These dragons are winged, and have a variety of wing shapes. They can be feathered like a hummingbird's, leafy-looking like a moth's, scaled and uniquely shaped like a butterfly's, or in two set of a dragonfly's shape. Leathery bat-like wings are unheard of in this species. Their wings are also large in a body-to-wing ratio when compared similarly to common Fire Dragons or even Wyverns! Floriths have antennae matching that of the insect their wings resemble; bird-type Floriths have a few long curly feathers sticking out from under their scales in place of where the antennae would be. Behind their antennae are rather large horns facing back, like a dog's ears when trying to show aggression. There is a slit on the under side of the horn that acts as their ears. They have around the hearing range of a fox. A Florith's body is also slender, shaped like that of a housecat when comparing how much their ribs cause a curve on their underside. The same can be said for their legs, which are shaped to fit a quadrupedal gait. [Simple talk: They walk on all fours, and their legs are placed more like a cat's than a lizard's. Their bodies are like a cat's in shape.]  Other than that, their tail is like that of a reptile.

Diet?
Floriths have a omnivorous diet. The proteins come from insects, although they steer clear from eating pollinators such as butterflies, moths, and bees UNLESS carrying eggs, in that case they indulge in them. Their 'fruits and veggies' foodgroup is taken up by flowers, , leaves, grasses, and in some specimen, ferns, moss, and lichens. They drink water just like you and me, but occasionally treat themselves to nectar, and will go after honey if they are fairly reckless. [Bees do sting, you know!]

Aging?
Unlike many common dragons, usually the kind found in Sky's Rim, they only live about as long as a human, and that is only if they are unusually lucky. I will display an aging chart for your convenience.

How many in a clutch?
Florith Faeries usually lay 1 to 3 eggs per clutch, most likely due to their small size. The hatchling inside each egg inherit the color of the native flowers, due to the mother usually staying in one place while carrying the eggs, and their change in diet to revolves around the flowers and any of it's pollinators. most notably their flowers. It also seems that along with the wing type [Butterfly, Moth, Bird, and Dragonfly] of the parents, the type of insects eaten also affect the wing types of the hatchling. There is a 50/50 chance a mother Florith will watch her the eggs until hatching time; the father always leaves.
~{<?>}~
Behaviors?
Floriths are calm in personality, although they can be riled up if you tamper with the eggs of a protective mother, or catch an adolesent [Child-Teenaged]or adult out-of-the-blue. This usually happens to gardeners tending to their plants, and most of these situations end quickly with a sharp bite on the hand.[A Florith's fangs have no venom, although they are long and sharp enough to puncture through a rubber or leather glove.] Hatchlings are usually either very curious, or very shy. Adolesents can be a more daring than when they were younger, but shyness can still be a permanent trait in some. Adult Floriths tend to be more careful due to experience, and also more protective. Elders and older usually become less aggressive, and also seem either more 'to themselves' or friendly and accepting to others.
~{<?>}~
Tamable?
Yes, these little dragons can be tamed, and usually make good pets. A well-known method for aquiring any tamed form of dragon is to get an egg. It doesn't matter if given, or stolen, just as long as the hatchling(s) belive you to be a parental figure, you're all good. A secondary method is to befriend an elder. Due to their temperament, they are can easily accept a human as a friend, or atleast a helpful or supportive figure. If they trust you enough, they may possibly permit you to keep them as a companion. A third, and more grim way to aquire a Florith is to trap an adolesent or hatchling. Due to the outgoing, naive, or reckless personalities of some, they can be easy to trick. Be warned though, after they find out they've been fooled, they won't be so happy about their kidnapping.
~{<?>}~
Fighting Capabilities?
Floriths are usually one to stay out of a fight, but if properly provoked they will defend themselves. Along with their strong bite, they can scratch with their claws. They don't have any sort of 'elemental breath', but they can let out a nightmarish shrill screech to buy themselves time.

How to Make a 'Florith' Faerie Dragon In-Game?
To simplify things, I'll add pictures in spoilers, depicting the average sizes. [You will have to tamper with height in Sky's Rim though, due to a glitch where you fall through the islands on other people's screens if you're too short.] I will also include the body shape standards. For colors, just google up a few pictures of flowers and try to replicate the flower colors. In the age size examples, the body will be all black and the camera zoomed out to max to show the body against the FH background. Also with age sizes, it wont have a mane or wings to help show the body size ONLY. In the body standards, it will be elder sized and with distinguishably different colors for different parts.
